Ultra Low Tech Nano Reef Tank- 3 Year Anniversary Update
Переглядів 571Рік тому
In this (belated) tank update we take a look at my 20 gallon long low tech nano reef at the 3 year mark. This tank runs with a simple light fixture, powerhead, heater, and nothing else. Overall, the system has matured fairly smoothly over its third year, with a few notable shifts in the resident algae and coral populations. If you're interested in the cheap and lazy approach to reefkeeping, the...

New Baby Koi Fall Mini-Harvest: How Much Did They Grow?
The reason why this problem is not so serious in Japan is that the way of keeping KOI is quite different from those in other countries. Anyway, we make them as large as possible during the feeding season to increase their basic strength. Sterilization is done twice a year in advance to prevent outbreaks.
How many lights should i run in a 10 gallon? (I plan on zoas and gsp)
Should you ever mix prazi and formalin as a treatment?
very informative video, now i want to buy some.
they do seem to like it , great video
Hai kawan... Apakah menurutmu praziquantel lebih efisien daripada formalin malachit fmg ?
Awesome recipe. I just got six of these little guys. I'm worried they're not getting enough to eat so I've looking for ideas of what to feed them. This is very helpful.
I made this food and it was a hit with my hillstream loaches. Thank you so much. Should I feed this food exclusively to replace the commercial food (I have Hikari algae wafers and Repashy Soilent Green)?
Id offer all different foods, that way they get a variety and dont end up lacking something in their diet
Another interesting video 👍 I like your work 🤩 May I please use part of your video for one of my next tutorial ? Thanks Marc
We tried the fishing line this fall & winter - it didn’t help - thinking about adding decoy swans
Thanks. There is a lot of false info about keeping fish. These are super hardy fish. I have four of them in a 1 gallon tank (over three years for three of them). The tank is about 5 inches in diameter and 15 inchs tall with a small carbon and sponge filter powerhead venturi blasting a vertical stream of bubbles and water down the wall. And (shock horror) I do 66% water changes once every 6 -8 weeks (filter/water/bubble flow dependant). I have a short video of them and tank on my channel if anyone doesn't believe me. Only uploaded 2 videos so it won't be hard to find lol.
thanks for the video!
dang, I hope this works out for my chinese hillstream's
My hope. I really want to set up a red tailed Hillstream loach river tank!
I have hydras in my tank. Will they be harmful to my fish?
Great Video, very informativ for me. Thank You!
I never fed garlic to my pet fish but i know its very popular as a fishing scent, used them from bass to salmon. Another one you can try is anise scent. Most game fish likes that also.
Best Hillstream loach video I have seen. All information, no fluff!
My heron statue has scared off red tail hawks and Turkey vultures as well as a Great Blue heron. I do move it to a different location every couple of days and I took it in during mating season this past summer but I’m thinking of getting a second one to put out with it this next year during mating season. Then I’ll take one of them back in when mating season is over. Unfortunately our pond does not have steep sides and has lots of great places for a heron to wade in to fish. We do have an area that is 4 ft deep and I put caves in the shallower areas for my goldfish to hide. We’ve only seen the predatory birds once at different times during the summer and they all eyed our heron statue and then decided to leave empty beaked.
Thank you very much for the information. I'm from Mexico. This information has helped me a lot, since there is not much knowledge about this fish in captivity. Fortunately I was able to obtain 5 loaches and I intend to raise them. Greetings ☺️
Just noticed our first fry today. I have a 70 Litre tank with 3 Hillstream Loach. So far I can see just one fry, but plenty of places for them to hide, so maybe a few more surprises to come.
Nice video, I bought some Hill stream loaches a month ago 8 of them and now they're breeding. Already spotted 8-10 tiny baby hill streams.
Can u give few of them to me pls i am too looking forward to breed them , i am from South Indian 🙏😭
I am also from South India bro where you from me kerala 🙂@@Giridharan029
Great video. Thanks
That cyanobacteria in your tank is not healthy...
Great video and definitely something I’ll try here in the near future but question… truly just asking not hating bc I see lots of value in your freshness…. Isn’t a repashy powder mix kind of the same thing? Protein, spirulina, veggies, garlic etc? Or are you basically making your own (fresher) repashy?
Repashy is an excellent food, but still contains preservatives and costs much more than diy option. Also, not sure how their powder is prepared, but diy ensures you don't use very high heat which denatures some enzymes and vitamins.
Good looking pond and awesome babies thanks for sharing 💗👍✌️💯
Lovely pond and what a load of babies!
What a lovely massive pond. That wouldn't be allowed on our verges due to any small children being able to drown in it.
Thanks! We have ours fenced in just like you would for a pool. For the big builds like this I like to follow the local pool codes where possible even if not required.
Thank you. I have hillstream loaches mixed with panda gara. This was a very informative video.
I love your voice :)
I made this relatively the same, but it floats and falls apart in the tank. What did I do wrong?
It can float if not fully defrosted and/or if significant amount of air bubbles are trapped in the food during the mixing process. If you defrost in tank water before dropping in and gently squeeze a few times the air bubbles should leave and the food will sink better. Falling apart over time is not necessarily a problem- your fish will hunt down all the pieces. However, if you don't like the consistency then in future batches you may want to increase the amount of gelatin.
We bought 3 of them. 2 from one store, they look alike and 1 from a different store that looks very similar but its definitely a different sub species. The one oddball i havent seen eat at all. Its been about 5 days. Im getting worried. Tried sinking veggie pellets, sinking carnivore pellets, flake food sunk to the bottom, broken brine and frozen daphnea. Dont know if its been eating any biofilm but even so, there isnt much as its a new tank. Any ideas for what to try and feed it?
I'd give them time to settle in. They will eat almost anything if hungry enough (vegetarian based foods are better). There are several different species, most commonly sold are reticulated and spotted sewellias.
@kissaquaticsystems5525 my fingers are crossed. Still havent seen that one eat but i also cant watch the tank 24/7.. unfortunately lol ty for your replies!!!
Hi.. i like to have lots of fish meds on hand. What meds are safe with hillstreams? I know i read maracyn and maracyn 2 is safe also prazi. But what else is safe for them? I recently got hillstreams and corys. Never had fish that are sensitive to meds before, so please.. school me😊
I haven't had to medicate mine before so can't say specifically. Prazi in its recommended dose is safe for just about anything. Antibiotics are harder on fish/your system in general.
@kissaquaticsystems5525 yeah especially gram negative meds.. kills the bb so fast! I'll continue to do more research. Ty 😁
My co-worker says his 10 gauge really works well on herons.
Looks Amazing!
thanks!
I’ll agree with you 100% on the decoy . Didn’t do a thing to deter them in my pond. Also the motion detection sprinkler failed miserably . I have deep water and a big rock cave. My Koi run and hide every time I come close. Eventually they come out because they know I’m the guy who feeds them. So I still have netting because I simply don’t trust anything else. Anybody want to buy a decoy cheap? 😂
Funny, some people really swear by those motion activated sprinklers, though many don't have success with them as well. Guess you have to hope for a dumb heron for it to work. I also suspect they're getting more and more used to our tricks
@@kissaquaticsystems5525 I saw a video on here where a guy showed a recording of different attempts to get them to work. Funny as all get out . A heron was actually standing there while the sprinkler hit him. Like he actually enjoyed it. Finally the guy put about 4 different ones around. I had an idea to make an animated ( mechanical ) decoy. I’m sure that would work. Just need the time and money lol.
Thank you 🤗
Que tiempo viven estos peces??
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. I am going to do it. Great video.
Iam going to make it … thanks for the info … ❤
What is DIY??
don't place hillstream loaches fish in the tank together with parrot fish, they will easily to be eaten by the predator. Also, the loaches will easily to get stress and die.
I wish there was a way to grow moss on my pond liner.
Occasionally it does but there's usually not enough texture for moss to get a foothold on smooth rubber or plastic. Many of those textured/fake rock and pebble liner overlayments can grow moss very well and they're easy to drape over pond liners at the pond edges.
That’s great, thanks so much.
Great video. Awesome information thanks
Glad it was helpful!
If they are not in your pond or on your fish and you don’t add anything, how do they appear?
It's possible they can be brought in by aquatic visitors such as frogs/birds, but that transmission pathway isn't currently as well documented for flukes as it is for other aquatic parasites like fish lice. For flukes in particular it's very easy to have healthy, asymptomatic koi carrying trace amounts of parasite that are easily missed by scrapes, so it's not practically possible to definitively say they aren't on your fish to begin with.
Thanks for sharing. I love dragonflies they are so beautiful.
Great vid, thanks for sharing your observations!
Do you need heavy flow for breeding or even just existing.
In my tank they certainly enjoy the strong flow areas and orient themselves on rocks against it. Also when they spawn in the water column they do seek out the highest flow currents. However for just living it's not really the flow but rather the good dissolved oxygen content that's important.
@@kissaquaticsystems5525 thank you.
Are you in the states?
yeah. not quite as bad as uk/eu right now but still pretty tough.
