Visiting Some Musical Locations in San Francisco #fillmore #vinylcommunity #sanfrancisco #records
In 2006 I visited San Francisco and I've shared some experiences already on the channel from this trip but I wanted to specifically archive a video of the music stops all in one video. I'll be doing other videos like this throughout the year but wanted to start with this one. So today we visit the Fillmore West, Haight Ashbury, Amoeba records, run into Taylor Hawkins and more! If you like Vinyl Records, Guitars, Rock and Roll History and more then give the channel a like and subscribe to see more videos!

Here's my response to the 2025 Cd tag that was created by Glen Kellaway from the basement. Cd collecting has always been something that I've been interested in and my collection continues to grow despite trends that make the compact disc less popular. Cd's will always have a place in my collection. Hope you enjoy the video and if you like Vinyl Records, Guitars, Rock and Roll History and other ...

Over 40,000 fans attended over the two day event. In this show I'll match some of the bands that played to the records that they had just released to give you an idea of what some of the set lists may have looke...

Collecting the Vertigo Swirl Record Label! #records #recordcollection #vinylcommunity #vinyl

A few years ago I started to feel like I wasn't getting inspired by many of the records I was finding and decided to get into collecting a UK record label known as Vertigo. It's been a great experience learning about some bands that I was completely unaware of while at the same time finding records that I would never have even known about. Sometimes switching gears in your collecting can help g...
Are Record Shows Over? #records #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #recordcollection #vinyl

I recently attended a record show and I'm seeing some things that to my eyes are troubling for the future of this hobby. In today's show I'll break down some things I've been noticing. So are Record Shows over? Is record collecting changing and are the costs of used records creeping up too much? As a long time vinyl record collector this is something I've been keeping track of for a while. Let ...

In today's show we'll take a quick look at the origins of Folsom Prison blues and how some parts of it were borrowed from an old tune called Crescent City Blues. I'll talk about the records Johnny Cash did in 1968-69 including the San Quentin show and compare the two "prison" concerts. I'll also do a quick play through of Folsom Prison on the guitar and show you how it was put together! If you ...

I wonder where Hank was? I know it was the second game of a dh but... any idea brotha?
I'm not sure. Good to hear from ya! Going in a more music direction these days on the channel.
@mikesrockinrelics i noticed - luckily i love baseball and music equally (though i know much more about old time baseball than i do pre 60's music). Channel looks great and almost 1K baby‼️‼️‼️
Right now Reverb has over 90,000 items listed in the used guitar category.
Crazy, and think of how many beginners that are selling that wouldn't even know that reverb exists. Facebook, Craig's list and other sites that are loaded as well. There's a ton!
Prices high
Absolutely 👍
Hi Mike, another cool video tour around your collection, keep em coming....even though I'm a CD collector and listener ! 😊
Thanks!
Just like any other hobby (sports cards, video games, etc.) it cycles. Once the hipsters and influencers get a hold of it, make it 'cool' and trendy, demand goes up, prices go up, the bubble eventually bursts and the hispsters move on to the next 'cool' trend. It will all come back full circle, just a matter of time.
Wow. What a start with Ptooff. Congrats on owning a Zep2 RL hot mix pressing. Great tag, Mike.
Hi, Mike. New subscriber here. Familiar with Zap Records through Glen Kellaway's channel. I'm in K-W, a few hours west of you. Nice T.O. finds. Cheers, Jeff
Welcome Jeff! Thanks for watching. Happy new year
If those tariffs go into effect the used market may be the only option.
Very good point. 👍
That guitar looks like it was put away new. Nice find!
NRBQ at yankee stadium... is a great record imo. I have never seen it on vinyl, just cd. Nice finds all around. Cheers!
Yeah I gave it a spin and really liked it. That one has been on my list a long time!
Happy Anniversary Mike. Great finds.
Hey Mike. Thanks for the shoutout and the kind words about the show. Always good to see you.
Happy anniversary Mike, enjoy your stories and antique finds but mostly the music in all formats and early electronics if your into that. Beautiful guitar you picked up and 1000 subs on the way.🤘
Thanks for your continued support 👍 🙌
Happy anniversary! Do you collect Zappa stuff?
I do have most of his 60s / 70s records but I don't really collect him. Hot Rats is a personal fav
You have ..Jasperwrath. ?
No I've never come across it. Aren't they a prog band? I'm not too familiar with them. Early 70s I believe correct?
I’ve been playing since ‘92. I keep it just to two guitars. I bet the same thing will happen with Gen X action figures as well. Their value will only be cherished by a small demographic, then they’ll be worth a lot less again.
I literally wore this cassette tape out
Interesting subject. I'm a bass player and live in the states. FB marketplace and CL are full of used instruments. Newer stuff does nothing for me so all my basses are vintage. But I am watching several newer made in USA and Mexico Fenders just to see what they will do. I've noticed some seriously un-played Mexican Fender basses (probably Covid purchases) with asking prices of around $500 with cases that haven't moved in over a month. This is less than half the price (out the door) of that same bass, new, from a shop. Maybe they aren't moving because the prospective buyer doesn't have the cash and will gladly fork over plastic to get a new one (now paying 1.3K with interest). Don't know. Same with a couple of super nice USA Fenders. When the price drops to $800 they get snapped up, but at 1100 and up they sit. That is CRAZY considering what they went for new. So, I agree with you, the new market is tough!
I agree with everything you've said in this video. I was thinking about buying a new Gibson LP Standard, because there are a lot of sales rn, but I almost immediately found 2001 used one for alomst 1000€ less than a market price. But I've also tried to unload some of my less played and less valuable instruments, and it's been pretty rough NGL. There's just soooooo much stuff on the market rn.
I have a Fender Stratocaster (Japan) that I purchased new in the mid 1980’s and it has spent most of its life in the original hard shell case. I’m not a very good player but it sounds amazing and is the easiest to play of any guitar I’ve ever picked up. It looks like a new guitar. I hear mixed feelings on the Japanese made strats from that era but this one is in my opinion “great” , granted I don’t know a lot. Wondering what the value might be?
I'm not sure what they'd go for. You could check reverb to see if there's been any recent sales. I think those are pretty good from what I've heard but I've never played one
Enjoyed the tag. I too love Machine Head. Well done.
Enjoyed the video. Im glad that you found your grails. Cheers. Btw. I subbed your channel.
Thanks!
I got alot of good Grails this past year in TO / GTA. Alot at record fairs and more than a few good buys at Sonic Boom on Spadina and Rotate This. Killing Joke, Skinny Puppy, The Damned, Dayglo Abortions, Talking Heads, Destruction... all OGs and bought this year. I like Sonic Boom, Rotate This, Invisible City and for DVDs / CDs - BMV esp the one on bloor.
*”Finding grail records in Toronto.”* Well i’ll be damned, that isn’t something you’ll hear everyday.
some nice finds ..,
Oh man! I would love to find that Giles Giles Fripp record. Good for you. Awesome addition for any Crimson collector. Steve`s is in Ottawa too. I do prefer Long & Mac though. They have been very good to me over the last many years.
Thanks! Yeah it was great to find that one. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! Yeah my list is in my head. I just know them when I see them lol. I liked Star as well. Zaps is definitely worth a look! Happy New year
Nice video Mike. Gotta know where you keep your list of wants? Have you committed it to memory or the smart phone… Nice to hear you mention Zaps as well. I didn’t know they were still going. It has been years since I was in. I will make a trek out to visit. I also didn’t know Oshawa had a record store. The last time I was d/t, I believe I saw Star records was gone. I liked that place. I picked up some punk albums there many years ago. Cheers
Norlin era isn't all that good..
I've played some real good ones and some just ok ones. I think it's hit and miss
Bought 6 guitars in the last year in the US a Les Paul Jr anniversary a Les Paul special a Fender standard strat a Taylor 214 a Ibanez 24 fret and a Epiphone with mods all at half or more of retail prices I have never bought new if I see something I like I just wait for the right deal
hi Mike, its refreshing to hear that you go for non UK swirl pressings if UK not available or too expensive. i do the same, for me the most important thing is to own the record on the swirl, whether its a UK, German, Italian etc i don't really care but i am detecting a kind of snobbery out there by some collectors, who kind of discriminate against foreign swirls and as a result, UK original pressings have become way too expensive. i got 70 swirls, some twice but lacking the rare heavyweights yet...my rarest is Uriah Heep's Look at Yourself only released in Venezuela on the swirl label. very cool.
Yeah I feel the same. It's pretty tough to find the swirls outside of the UK so any other country with that label works for me. The snobbery is definitely a thing I've encountered as well. Thanks for watching!
Watching this video reminded me of ordering CD`s from Columbia House back in the early 90`s. Used CD`s are still a good bargain and I have a pretty good collection of vinyl, cd`s, cassettes and eight tracks, I just can`t help myself. Seasons Greetings to you and yours Mike. 1000 subs coming soon. 🎅
Thanks! Same to you. Those were good days ordering those through the mail and I remember just how excited I was to get them back.
I listen to alot of cds myself, I had ordered 2 cds the other day. I ordered Freestyle Explosion volumes 2 and 4 I’m getting them today. I subscribed to your channel by the way
Thanks!
You're spot on about Springsteen. I first saw him in '78 a friend of mine got tickets and told me I was going. Didn't know much about him but came away from that show with some great photos and a total love for the band.
Thats cool
Love it, got my first in prolly 6th grade too which for me would have been around 96/97. Of course I never stopped buying cds and now I also have a massive collections. Finishing the yazoo prewar blues catalog on CD has been my most recent journey. Keep it up.
Oh that'd be a great period to collect. The Yazoo stuff is great. Thanks for watching!
Well done, great video.
I particularly love your choice of ACDC.... ;) Great video as always Mike! Erin and I enjoy watching them.
Thanks pal!
Real nice choices!!
Thanks!
Yep- I had one like this in ‘71 at 9yrs old!
Here's some more information on the Festival ... rockarchaeology101.blogspot.com/2020/07/october-5-6-1968-san-francisco.html
How do you have these albums? I looked for the Fraternity of Man album on Itunes.. not there
Ya it's a tough one to find. I've been collecting for 30 years. There's a few I've sold over the years that I'd like back but I've kept most of the rare stuff.
I was initiated into transcendental meditation by the keyboard player of the loading zone, who had dropped out of music.
A buddy of mine spent the night with Buddy Miles in the Los Angeles county jail. Quite a character. He would just walk into studios and steal everything that wasn't nailed down to feed his drug habit. Nobody messed with him.
Wow that's a story!
That's awesome congrats, I'm getting a hobby box tomorrow hopefully I get as lucky as you
Do you have videos where you play this
No I don't, just what I play in this video so not too much. Sorry.
I went to one show, and while I did come away with some stuff, I probably wouldn't do it again. It was so busy that it was hard to crate dig, and prices at these shows seem a bit high now. Plus I agree that most of the people who come to these shows will be there when it starts, the line disappears 20 mins after open. It is a bit annoying for some of these shows that allow advance entry for the flippers.
I`ve had faded pictures that I scanned through my Roxio program that brought them back to life some what. That`s a cool card to have.👍
I`m hearing a lot of people loosing their gear and finding them years later. That`s weird.
The packaging is worth more than the media.
