Do you ever dream of making the move to the countryside? Or following your dream where ever it will take you?
In the spring 2022 we bought an abandoned off-grid cabin in the south of Sweden, and are renovating it into a simple life paradise with as natural materials as we can.
We hope to inspire you to listen to your heart and take action towards your dream - whatever it may be. We do it every day!

#40 Making Ready for Winter: Painting Timelapses & Daily Vlogs
It is August and a good time to prepare the cabin for fall and winter.
I finally paint the old bench (!) to bring more color to the (new) living room. And then one thing leads to another, as usual....
Follow along as we do a bunch of small projects in and around the house to make this dream come to life ♡
Lots of love,
Annie & Julian

PART 2 of our summer in Sweden 2024. Slow summer? Yeah, not so much. This is one of the big projects: Planing the original log wall, sanding it and finishing off by giving it lin oil soap - and then doing a makeover. Removing the furniture and starting over with a new look. Thank you for being here! ♡ All the best, Annie & Julian

This is a story I have been wanting to tell for years - I just didn't know how it went, because I was still in the midst of it. Now I am ready to go back home for real - for a longer period of time - to face my shadows on these dark and rainy islands. Who wants to live in a place, where it is always stormy? Where you can't make a garden, because the strong winds will tear it apart? Where the wa...

1,5 years ago we tore an abandoned cabin in the woods apart, took all the rotten parts away and built a new home from only the four walls and a chimney (and the beautiful soul of the place). This little homestead is still off-grid, and now we have extended it with some practical and, lets be honest, some builds just for the fun of it, since it is our happy place, after all - our paradise ♡ Bein...

Takk 😊🥰
No safety harness? For anyone who thinks to do this, don’t. Falling from even short heights can be fatal. From 15 meters, certainly.
Thanks for the tip 😊
I declutter one room at a time. I go through every drawer and closet and also touch up paint or fix things as I go. And shampoo the carpet. Then I call a room done and start another room.
Good method 😊
Nice to see you both again. The cabin looks magical in the forest. Great improvements for winter - and maybe many don't realise how cold it will get nor how snowy. Love that you're taking your time over the cabin, furniture, log store and so on. Looking forward to whoever you can post again. I'm off to Faroe in three days time for our 'Santa Run' to Kaldbak to see my son, daughter in law and three grandchildren.
Ohh how lovely you are going to visit your family in Føroyar! Thank you for noticing and complimenting the improvements. The next video will be about the garden. I don’t know when I get the time to finish that one. Wishing you all the best, say hello to your family. Happy holidays! 🎄 Love, Annie
@@AnnieJulian Many thanks = I love Føroyar so much. The garden is a wonderful refuge.
I love your videos!!!!!, I send you a bug hugg from Argentina!!!❤

Thank you! Nice and cosy video as usual! The cabin looked soo cute and beautiful with the white windows and door. So no need to paint it yellow. Wishing you a happy autumn and winter!

Could you paint the log walls white to make it brighter?
Yeah, maybe. I think we will try a white stain first :) Something where we can see the wood through. Thanks for the tip! Love, Annie
Wow, I didn't think that you started the cabin from 0, I would say, the roof and all inside from the beginning, it's unbelievable. And I like you changes in this room, good job 💪 P.S. Annie, your smile, all my attention on your smile. I like when people are so happy, that they do what love to do. Maybe because I want to do the same 🥹🥰😉
Ahh, I love this comment, thank you so much ❤ It makes me very happy to hear. You can watch us from the beginning - tearing down and building up, if you'd like :) It's all filmed. You can find it in the right order on our channel on the playlist called "Tiny Off-Grid Cabin Renovations". I will keep smiling and spreading the joy of doing what I love. Thank you so much for mentioning it ❤ Lots of love! From Annie
@@AnnieJulian I would watch it. Thank you 😉 I like to make people more happier, and comments is one of them 🤫
@@marinka001mandarinka Absolutely, I enjoy every positive comment, warms my heart <3 Just posted a new video btw :) Love, Annie

How wonderful! Can’t wait to show you more 😊
Wonderful video. So much magic in it and it is so well edited. Love our swedish traditions.
Thank you so much! Lots of love
I understand the impact of growing tourism. I wonder if there are governmental policies to prevent the impact from being too consequential. I hope. Much of Scandinavia could use such protections. I would say places like Iceland, The Faroe Islands, and parts of the rest of the Scandinavian countries would benefit. Also, I wonder about what of that creativity is carried in the blood. I'm a Texan of Swedish heritage and I'm an artist and designer. This was a great video story.
Hey Andrew! Thanks for your comment. They are working on how to properly welcome the tourists without the nature or the animals suffering from the extended traffic. Maybe it is genetic, I don't know :) What kind of art and design do you do? Lots of love, Annie
@@AnnieJulian I tend to draw and watercolor for art. I'm a professional graphic designer, primarily print, but I've done web, app, event decor, jewelry, interior... all kinds of design. Thanks!
@@AndrewKendall71 How exciting! Thank you for sharing. I love creativity :) Love, Annie
Is your living room stove leaking because all that black soot on the brick work around the fire place suggests that the stove is indeed not air tight?
I know, I’ve been wondering the same. It’s been there since we bought it, now I finally washed it and also just chalked it white, so we’ll see 😊 The chimney sweaper said it was good enough.
Good video, Nice place to spend some time. ☀
Thank you 😊 Love, Annie
Beautiful inspirational 💜 it gives me definitely hope for better days will come. I also went through a lot in life, but now I'm starting again a more grounded life in Sweden. My heart felt warm when I watched this video. Keep going on 😊
Thank you so much 🩷 I’m so glad you feel inspired and motivated. I wish you all the best on your new journey 🌲🌞 Love, Annie

The place you live is so fresh and peaceful, I love this quiet space because it helps me balance and reduce stress. Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos with everyone.
Thank you so much for letting us know ❤️
Hi! What waterfall is that? I am planning an itinerary to hopefully one day visit the Faroe Islands!
Hey! How wonderful ❤️ It is from my childhood town 😊 There are so many beautiful waterfalls here on The Faroe Islands 🫶
New subscriber herev that has binge watched The Offgrid Renovations start to finish. What an amazing transformation. You two work so well together and the love radiates from when you look at one another. My husband and I are on a renovation journey of 1 year on grid. What a sense of fulfillment when you can see it taking the shape and form you desire. Tenacity and vision are tools we can’t do without. Excited to see what you are up to next. Let the journey continue. Congratulations on the upcoming marriage. Enjoy!
Hello! How wonderful to hear from you 😍 What a beautiful journey you are on. Thank you so much for the kind words ❤️ It means a lot. Have you seen the episode on relationship and renovating? I just rewatched it and still love it ☺️ Sending lots of love 🫶 Annie
You are doing great work. Enjoy the time spent on the project. ☀
Thank you so much, that is so sweet 🌻
Amazing! We’ve only been watching a bit over a year and hadn’t realised how much work went into the cabin or that for a time it didn’t even have a roof! You’ve put a lot of work into it and it looks amazing 🤩 thanks for the update video and good luck with whatever project you pick up next 😊
Hey! Oh wow. Haha, yeah we tore that down, you can still see the whole process by going back to episode 1 in the Renovation series - or catch up really fast by seeing the Timelapse video about the 32 working days. Thank you for the kind words ❤️ Lots of love, Annie
Skaffa en katt!
Tack, men vi bor inte her full tid.
Lovely to see you again and despite your intentions for a slow summer, the makeover was a superb project and I'm really glad you did it just so we who watch can enjoy it (how selfish of me). Hard workers both and so in touch with the philosophy of hygge! So cosy and attractive - and no mice! Every blessing to you both.
Aww, I’m very glad you liked it, Jim 😊 Thank you so much. Love, Annie
If you want the wood to appear lighter, you can use Pibeler. Good work. / Hvis du ønsker at træet skal fremstå lysere, kan du bruge Pibeler. 🙂
Thanks! I don’t know about that 😃
It looks AMAZING! Again, I want to say how much of an inspiration you both are and how your videos really pushed me to build my tiny house, so ... thank you for these moments
Oh Ian ❤️ Thank you so much, I hope you can imagine how much that means! Thank you for putting it into words and sending it our way 🙏 We will keep posting these moments for that reason 🥰 All the best!

Lovely timbers ❤ So beautiful cottage inside and outside. Regards from Finland countryside 🌲🏠🌲
Hey Mia ♥️ Thank you 😃🫶 Love to you in Finland
Looks great!!!
Thanks! 😃
Excellent work you two👋! I could almost feel and smell of how clean it was👃! Mouse proofing is hard in an ond cabin or house. You know it only takes an 8 mm hole or krack for mice to get in. And you have a lot of that in old places. I put my 5 mouse traps outside around the cabin to get the mice BEFORE they get in! Works well! Good luck to you and be well!
Thanks alot 👋♥️ Haha, I’m glad 👃🫧 Yeah, that is very small! Looks remarkable when you see them disappear under a counter that has an height of around 8 mm 🫢 I heard that you can count on if a pencil ✏️ can get in, a mouse can get in. Oh, that is actually a good idea! Thank you for your comment 😃 Be well ♥️ Annie
It looks fantastic! Great job to you both. Love from the US 💛
Thank you so much ☺️ Lots of love, Annie
I've lost tract. Are you living in the cabin fulltime; or only part of the year? Just curious. Ed.
Only part time 😊 Love, Annie
wonderful looks so nice For mice put steel wool in the hole they will not chew there that hurts there teeth Blessings
Thanks! Wonderful idea ❤️ In the last video you can see what metal I put in. We used what we had 😊 Lots of love, Annie
❤❤❤❤🎉🎉 love you
Aww, love you too 🫶
Once again a wonderful happy video. Great job Annie!!! Jim in California
Hey Jim. Thank you so much! ❤️ Lots of love, Annie
Really love the timber and the result of the cabin on the inside. Wonderful!!
Thank you ♥️ So nice to hear 🙏 Lots of love, Annie & Julian
@@AnnieJulian It’s wonderful to see you guys take on so much of this work yourself. Just this past summer we went to Sweden for the first time - and went all the way up north to Sapmi. That one visit has thrown me/us upside down to such a degree that I now am even contemplating moving there. The feeling/energy is way beyond “reason” but it remains strong even though we’ve been back in Belgium for almost two months now. I guess the reason I am bringing this up, is that it’s so nice to how you can do so much of that work yourselves. My current skills are in different domains so perhaps you could consider making your skills available to the community… 🤩 In exchange for financial compensation of course. ☺ Either way, the result of your cabin is very much in line with how I had been envisioning the ideal place: very basic but very beautiful and cozy as well. Congrats again!! 🏆😍🌟
Hey! Just saw this response comment. Oh wow! Yes, Sweden truly has a special energy. I never knew until Julian brought me here. That is huge, and I am a big believer in following your heart/womb/gut feeling. Honestly I would’nt do this without Julian - he has that can-do attitude, where anything is possible and he just learns along the way. This is his third renovation project. He just learnt through books back then and UA-cam now. How do you mean make our skills available, like physically or online? 😊 Sending you all the best! Annie
