Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and Crest (DUIs) of the U.S. Army in the Republic of Vietnam 1964 to 1973.
All of the information in this video and more is from the new book Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and Crest of the U.S.Army Vietnam available for you at www.moapress.com for only $20.00. The U.S. Army combat patches worn on the right shoulder of individual Vietnam veterans hold significant importance for several reasons:
Personal Achievement: Combat patches symbolize a soldier’s direct participation in combat operations. They represent the individual’s courage, dedication, and sacrifice in the service of their country. For Army Vietnam veterans, wearing a combat patch is a visible reminder of their personal experiences and contributions during wartime.
Unit Affiliation: Combat patches not only signify personal achievement but also indicate the unit the soldier served during combat. This affiliation with a specific unit fosters a sense of pride, camaraderie, and belonging among veterans. It serves as a visual link to the shared experiences and bonds forged during their war time service.
Recognition and Respect: Combat patches are widely recognized within the military community and by civilians as symbols of honor and valor. They carry with them the respect and admiration of others who understand the challenges and sacrifices associated with combat service. For veterans, wearing a combat patch is a way to be recognized and respected for their service and sacrifices.
Legacy and Tradition: Combat patches often have a rich history and tradition associated with the units they represent. Veterans who wear these patches not only honor their own service but also pay tribute to the legacy of the unit and the soldiers who came before them. This connection to tradition is deeply meaningful to Vietnam veterans, providing a sense of continuity and belonging to United States military heritage.
Remembrance and Reflection: For many veterans, wearing a combat patch serves as a reminder of their wartime experiences and the comrades they served alongside, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice. It can evoke a range of emotions,of both pride and camaraderie from their time in combat.
Overall, the U.S. Army combat patches worn on the right shoulder hold profound significance for individual veterans, representing personal achievement, unit affiliation, recognition, respect, tradition, remembrance, and reflection. They serve as enduring symbols of honor and valor, connecting veterans to their military service and the shared bonds of those who have served in combat.

Would you do one for Afghanistan?
This is a beautiful medal.
At 52:26, it should read "Long Binh", not the other way around. Site of the military jail for troops sentenced to 90 days or less, If it was more, they'd ship Stateside in 'cuffs.
Thanks, Colonel... really appreciate this. At 7:30, the Bein should be spelled Bien...
Wonderful video Sir I wore 2 of those patches after Vietnam. I served 97-00 thirty years after my Dad was in Vietnam with the 197th Infantry he was a LRRP.
Type o, did you mean the 198 or 199? The 197 did not go to Vietnam.
what's interesting Kennedy was originally recommended for the silver star by his commanding officer Lt. Commander Alvin Cluster Kennedy was also not the only recipient of the Navy Marine Corps Medal on PT 109 that night, Ensign Leonard Thom, the Boats XO and Ensign George H. R. "Barney" Ross an observer assigned for TD on PT 109 received the medal
Air medal
My great grandfather was in the 81st in the Philippines campaign in WWII, His brother was on Normandy beach, I don’t know much about him because he passed away before I was born. However my great grandfather is still alive
Outstanding video, Sir. Thank you for all of your insights. I really enjoyed it.
That was very informative. Thanks
Great video Colonel thanks
Days gone by and things I did when I was dumb...
Dumb?
@@user-ql7eb6ln1n Dumb enough to let somebody get way too close to getting me killed...dumb..
AT the 43:51 mark there seems to be a problem with the STRATCOM patch. The lower half (in Orange) should have the other half of the "wire-frame" globe but in white. (I served in STRATCOM Japan in '72-75.) I thoroughly enjoyed this video, keep up the good work!
Thanks for the info!
The dui you have for the 6th-31st infantry DUI 2nd one you have is wrong. The bear with the S inside the arrow head is actually the 27th infantry “wolfhound” coat of arms
thank you, 🙏 great eye!
I served with Charlie Company 84th ENGR.Battalion 25th INF.. But I see you left out the Engineer’s..
Sorry, could not find their crest.
Are there awards for the space force yet or have you just not been able to get around to them yet? P.s thanks for your videos most were quite great and you also have a monopoly in parts of this feild so thanks for filling gaps in my knowledge..
.there is One space force, unique medal. It is a space force, good conduct medal, the other decorations and service Medals of the space force are the same as the air force. We do have one video you space force, good conduct medal. Thank you for watching.
My late Granfa has a medal like that, WW2 victory medal, he was a WW 2 veterans in Mindanao, and Zulo. usaFFE army, here unit was not surrender to japs during the war, 112th div. A rank of major , died yr.1993 My father told me my late granfa has a "anting anting" came from a old lady he once help during the war, somewhere in jungle of Bukidnon and Cotabato.
Could anyone give me information on the 69th service squadron in 1942?
sorry, do not have a reference.
I was in the Marines from 1978 to 1981 and never saw anyone receive This award. I was in the Army from 1985 to 1991 and received Army achievement Medal a couple of times and also the Army commendation Medal (ARCOM) a couple of times. I feel the Army awarded properly and the Marines didn't. I knew a lot of Marines who should have been recognized for things they did and never got anything. Not bashing them! I enjoyed my time in the Marines as I enjoyed my time in the Army. 2 different branches and 2 different ways of doing things!
can armored division uniforms have infantry collar discs ?
yes, an armored division is made up of infantry, artillery and armored soldiers. It would also have medical personnel, engineers, etc..
I served in bravo company 2/14th infantry from Aug 1968 to April 1969 was wounded two times after being wounded I was transferred to another unit in April 69 ..new unit was delta company 58th infantry we were a infantry security rifle company in the central highlands west of quy nhon .lthe 25th was a great unit served with some unbelievable great soldiers..
Sgt Lisk B btry 1-41 FA 1st ABCT 3ID Dog face soldier! Good job at Nuremberg Fun history fact After the battle at Nuremberg, general field marshall Albert kesselring noted that the marn soldiers were finest soldiers hed faced in all of WW2
I really appreciate your channel. As I served during 1991 to 1995, I am now at an age that I would like to put together something for my father (Vietnam era, yet served commanding a post in Turkey) and my grandfather who served in World War II, (USS Franklin CV-13) and survived to become a member of the 704 Club. Thank you!
Thanks Colonel very interesting
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for your Service Sir. I really enjoy your UA-cam videos!
Glad you like them!
Great video Colonel thanks
Very welcome
Thank you so much for this. I am currently sitting surrounded by my uncle's medal. He was a Tech 5, Thomas M Williams. I don't have all of the metals it looks like he should have, but have the information to request them (I think). He wrote the most amazingly descriptive account of the Liberation of France. I am so proud to be his great, great niece and namesake (middle name). He was such a wonderful character.
you honor his service and your family
@@veteransmedalsworkshop-moa4376 OH my, thank you for your kind words!
I’m a retired army mustang. I was a staff sergeant and retired a lieutenant colonel. A marine colonel awarded me that medal as a 2nd lieutenant. I said to him please give my soldiers this medal; not a joint achievement medal. His Marines saw me taking of my blouse and serving as the enlisted man I will always be. Marine colonels have incredible power. Semper Fi.
Thanks for this.. I have some of these patches in my collection 👍✈️🇳🇿
I can’t hear ya say Alsack for Alsace one more time…

Frequent wind
As a Navy hospital coromandel who served in the cold war I met a lot of Marines when known to them I was a Doc were greatly appreciative of my rate Marines are a Gung ho outfit Semper Fidelis !
Sorry I misspelled corpman!
Hey you forgot the 65th Engineers
When I got out of basic at Lackland AFB in 1972 we were all informed that we now have one stripe (E2 airman ) and can now wear the NDSM,so we have very little hair one stripe and one ribbon we was something to behold lol
