Also, I agree that people who claim they can only relate to people who look like them or fall within the same arbitrary demographic they do are psychopathic, narcissistic, or both. It's also an unhealthy frame of mind that contributes to the political division and social atomization of the western world. Anyone should theoretically be able to relate to any other person, regardless of their ethnic background, occupation, or socioeconomic status, by virtue of being human. People who say things like, "Let me introvert. I can't relate to anyone because I'm just so different" are usually putting on a misanthropic front because they think it makes them edgy. Yet, those same individuals usually want their feelings and identities validated by complete strangers. To such people, I'm like, just stfu. You're not as special as you think you are. Sure, we are all unique in that we all have our own sets of personality and physical characteristics and experiences, but in many other ways, we are all the same. Just like you, I am also a well-read and well-informed person. I have always been curious and analytical about the world around me and have a wide range of interests. Though, I just wish I had the time to pursue them all. I work in customer service, so I interact with a variety of people. These interactions will usually be limited to mundane small-talk because of time constraints. I encounter a lot of petulant individuals who throw a tantrum over sh1t that I consider trivial or insignificant. But I would be arrogant to claim that I can only relate to certain people. I am a smart person and pick up on things quickly, so if anyone is willing to converse with me about a number of topics, but also listen and not talk inordinately about themselves or their interests, I am willing to do the same.
