What size studs did you used
Coils read around 9k. Ignition sensors fail as well. Fit PVL not the Gill ones. I tend to lose the clutch switch and prop switch as well. Never wind the bike over and over like that, sprag will go again when battery gets low! Triumph should start on the button. If need winding over you have a problem.
@@yellowperilbiker I really appreciate the feedback but I'm a little lost by the beginning of the comment. What are you referring to with the coils and PVL not Gill? Genuinely interested as I'm trying to get this bike right! Thank you!
يا ثقل دمك 😂😂😂
Found a recked subsru legacy from 09, a tree tell on top and the roof is wercked but emgine completely fine, they want 1000 dollars for the thing and im thinking of doing this
Seems like a great deal, especially if you can reuse things like the engine wiring and computer!
Where is this or how can we talk?
I am right in the middle of moving (with the bug) from NC to Columbia, MO. You can always DM me on IG or send an email at ratchetmotorsnc@gmail.com
Hi Im not sure if you remember me but I watched your sprag clutch video and was able to fix my 1995 Thunderbird I am changing the fork seal and I watched your video . I was wondering if you still had that tool Thanks
@@BrambleRun I still have it! I'm in the middle of a move from NC to MO but you can email me at ratchetmotorsnc@gmail.com or DM on IG if you want to figure something out!
Happen have the dimensions of the cradle? Picking up an engine and would like to have a cradle to transport it in.
Sounds like a harley, running on two.
Agreed! I need to get the carb cleaned, I think the jets might be gummed up. Probably worth checking the ignition system as well.
Hey man I have these same mufflers on my 08 Vic and I love them, I had my first set for 3 years before the hanger bracket rotted off and Magnaflow warrantied them and that was a year ago. Last week they did the same thing. I’ll see if I can have them warrantied again but I’m wondering if you had the same issue?
Thanks for the support! I actually sold the car but did not have any issues prior with the mufflers. Best of luck!
Hello, I'd let the mower run a few minutes and drain the oil. Don't go by the sticker, change it every year. Throw away that chinese spark plug, you'll thank me later.
Thanks for the advice! No drain plug on the unit, it is not meant to be drained.
Nice conversion. The Porsche wheels really look good on the car. What transaxle are you running? Stock T1?
Thanks for the support! And yes still the stock T1 for now.
I have a humbug. I switched out the motor for a 1971 Ford Pinto motor, but now I'm stuck on the wiring. Nice video
Best of luck!
Hey its abby I love you!
What was the actual wiring on the coil pack when you said you had the wires reversed?
Sadly, I think this all came down to a bad engine ground. I'm fairly certain the coil pack has no issues other than a lack of earf.
Oh gawd the music!!!!!! 🤣
Ratchet Motors. IDK if you're still reading comments but I believe I have a failed sprag in mine too. I have the engine apart but now when I spin the sprag is locks in one direction the way it should. Do you think that it needs a load to have the issue? Starting to wonder if that was the issue but it really sounded like it was,
I am by no means an expert but I do feel like load is a factor. My failed sprag also seemed "normal" during removal and inspection but sounded like ball bearings in my crankcase during startup before changing
Get rid f the music
The car looks great! You can't go wrong with Porsche wheels
Thanks for the support!
Very impressive work 🤗👍😎
Thank you! I appreciate it!
well i’m not buying a triumph now 😅😂
Lol I just bought a basket case for sure! 😂
Ratchet Motors, I really liked this video! I subscribed too!
Thanks for the support!
im having a similar issue with m adventurer. i rebuilt the clutch slave cylinder (it was really corroded) but when I let off my clutch, it doesnt even stall out. the bike also will roll while in gear.
I just rebuilt the slave cylinder a couple months ago as I thought that was the original problem. I'm hoping it hasn't already failed again but I'm running out of options.
@@RatchetMotors believe me I know how you feel. no shop around me will even work on mine so i can even take it in to anyone. havent taken the clutch cover off but i think that may be my next mot to try and figure it out. lesson i learned from this is never buy another triumph
What I like of this swap is the fact that the lid closes. Also, the exhaust is not evident.
I appreciate that! I spent a lot of time trying to keep the changes as subtle as possible. SOHC heads definitely make fitment much easier than DOHC.
@@RatchetMotors my dad was a bug guy back in the day, in Puerto Rico. The first thing I learned was to look at the lid. 😬
you need to overhaul the carbs on the triumph , first . the smoke is probably unburnt fuel washing the oil down the cylinders .
I agree and I also definitely came close to flooding the engine with all the cranking. Any ideas on the clutch?
@@RatchetMotors i will watch the video all the way through and see what problems you have and get back to you. I'm a bike tech from the UK so we should be able to sort it .
@@RatchetMotors first thing , you must soak the friction plates in oil for 24 hrs don't put them in dry or you will destroy them very fast . try that first .
make you its motorcycle oil with jaso ma /ma2 spec
I watched a few videos, i have a '95 T Bird, cafe style that i bought running. Love the bike. Coincidentally, i have also have a two tone '71 VW that i got running and many years ago had a '63 F100 Unibody like your step side. I looked for your final shake down video but maybe it hasnt been made? Only problem i ever had with my '95 is what i found to be a fairly common problem that occurs with this model. The crank timing sensor can fail because it's down in the right side engine cover, heat eventually damages it. Mine quit, it mimics a fuel problem, vaporlock, runs until it heats up. Changed it, it runs fine.
Unfortunately, I seem to be suffering from a sticking clutch. I was able to get the bike to run somewhat reliably but still cannot get the clutch to disengage for the life of me. I'm diving in now and will likely rebuild the clutch. Video should be coming out very soon! Thanks for the advice!
@@RatchetMotorshey so I’m working with a client right now and I need some help. He’s having some trouble because oil is being pumped into the air box. There is a fitting with a tube on the left side of the bike it’s like right under the horn on your bike. It has a rubber tube connected to it. I believe it’s the oil pump. Do you know where that tube is suppose to go to or can you check on your bike and get back to me. I’m not sure if it runs somewhere back into the engine or if it’s blocked off with a fitting please save me the headache and get back to me
@@RatchetMotors it’s the tube that’s right above the water pump and right below the horn, the fitting that is apart of the left side of the chrom casing. Just want to know where that tube/hose goes to because oil is spilling everywhere. Can you tell me where it’s suppose to route to or is it plugged off
Fit PVL coils and ignition sensor. Gill are more likely to fail...
is the engine just supported by the transmission 4 bolts or does it have additional support elsewhere? I must have missed that in your previous videos.
Just the 4 bolts! It might seem questionable but I've had no problems in several years now. I will install a kafer brace or additional supports at some point but so far so good. Best of luck!
You need a 4wd ball joint removal kit. I also converted my harbor freight shop press to an air jack with foot pedal. Makes life way easier. I’m doing pretty much all the same mods.
planning on suburu swapping my beetle as well so this was helpful, great content.
Best of luck and thanks!
Not the ideal sealant, motoseal or hondabond is much better, ultra is terrible for machined flanges, dont like the wrong stuff either- its high void sealant
Nice vid... id ditch the music tho
why small fuel cell? Using for just Baja? Not highway?
No real reason other than it was cheap and simple. More of a proof of concept to make sure everything worked. I will probably make the stock fuel tank work eventually
I watched it so many times, however can you show me the location of the engine mounts . My next move is to drop the engine down
Hi very informative videos bro

The marking is on the underside of the ports u can only read while they are off I have the same heads
Are those coil overs in the front?
Yes I have a 73 Super so MacPherson struts in the front from factory. I purchased everything directly from Top Line Parts www.toplineparts.com/
I love your cockpit improvised very well
Thanks a lot!
8.5 needs a 1.5" min widened fender .A 7" might fit with the right ET .Also have to be careful laying down wheels with so much positive offset as they will get scratched easily. Ask how I know.
Your set up is just right what i was looking for thank you for the video. Now. What size rear wheels and spacer thicknes do you have. Blessings. Hope you respond.
My rears are 8.5 with et55 and I'm using a 30mm spacer. Best of luck!
Reman heads
I will support what other people are saying because I had the same issue when I bought a 429 that turned out to be a 460. Those are D3VE-A2A heads but I don't know the history of why these heads didn't get marked like other D3VE-A2A heads I have owned.
Dude I had the exact same issue lol I was lowkey not upset tho the bigger the better lol the were also d3ve -a2a on the 460 that I thought was a 429 from previous owner
How did that j-b weld hold up?
Fantastic actually!
@@RatchetMotors Great! Just did the same on my bug a month ago.
Is the yellow wire running to the coil from the battery?
Yes that is correct. It is an HEI distributor and just setup this way for test fire.
Hi can you share the bolt tightening sequence and torque please?
What exactly are you referring to? I get all my info from the Haynes Manual amzn.to/41uZ2jG
Not Dove c
I've been guiding a new to VW friend doing a Suby conversion(minimal guiding...he's a retired aerospace engineer who's build several track cars) but I happened upon you disc brake conversion video and incidentally noticed you Maxx struts. You have the red springs. They are actually quite low spring rate, 78#, IIRC. The Yellow springs are in the 80# range. Still too low IMO. I run 125# on the front, and 944 torsion bars on the rear (23.5mm vs stock at 22mm). Anyway, if your suspension feels soft, you've got room to grow. A Suby mill is a decent amount heavier than a T1 so might be something to think about down the road
Thanks for the input! I haven't driven too hard yet but I'll definitely keep that all in mind when I start pushing things. I had heard before about the 944 torsion bars so that's pretty high on my to-do list for the future.
Well, I didn't want to have to explain all this in my first post. YOU might want to go a bit larger than 944 bars. My '73 handled incredibly well in all circumstances until I autocrossed the car. On hard launches or hard L->R/R->L transitions, the car would slam down on the bumpstops. For my current car ('74 1303), I am using 26mm torsion bars. I stayed with 125# springs on the front, but will keep an eye on it. I may go to 150#
Cool project. Looking forward to following this one 👌
Thanks for the support!
They are D3VE-A2A heads. Not performance heads. The pedestal mount rockers aren’t good for any RPM.
Hey, are those wheels 17x7 front and 17x9 rear? I'm about to do the same conversion to a 1969. Can you please let me know if the center cap is 76mm. Nice video that just answered all my questions about this conversion. THANK YOU!!!
Yes all of that is correct! 17x7/9 and 76mm center cap. Best of luck!
Thank you for a great video and explanation.
Can you please provide the part number for the center caps? The are located in the rear part of the center cap.
@@ivanbadillo5463 the center cap for the wheels? I don't have that unfortunately, I bought everything used from FB marketplace
When you get a chance if you remove one of the center caps the P/N is engraved there.
