Hey, welcome to the VC. I ran across your channel after watching Mike's Vinyl Spiral channel. I love quite a wide variety of genres, so it might be tough to keep it down to 5, but there are certain genres that I tend to pick up more than others. But as far as the ones I grew up with, well that would be mostly prog and 70's to 80's rock, but I love a lot of things from beyond that too. Great introductory video and I'm looking forward to others, great job! Speaking of music that doesn't fit the mode, have you heard of Godspeed You Black Emperor. Great stuff.

So cool to see you discover the greatness of Bruce Springsteen's "Nebraska". I'm several years older than you are, so I've been on the Bruce bandwagon from the beginning. Nebraska is a unique album in his discography and gets better with every listen. Being more of a solo artist/singer-songwriter fan than a band person, two artists that I was late to the game on would be John Prine and Jason Isbell. Great topic, enjoyed the video.

Hi Richard. I am kind of the same with Jefferson Airplane. I grew up on 80s stuff so in my household it was just Starship for the longest time. One band I was late to the draw is Pink Floyd... I still haven't listened to all of their albums...

Hi Richard. I've just discovered your channel via @frenchvinyladdict. You have very eclectic taste judging by your selection. I saw a signed copy The Pleasure Principle in a record store yesterday, but at £150 I decided to pass. I see you have a copy of the latest Fontaines DC, an album that hasn't been off of my turntable for the last couple of weeks. I think I'll have a go at this. Cheers Mike.

As a Jefferson Airplane fan I must admit I’m not a fan of Worst Of Jefferson Airplane.
Hey VinylRichie- Their 'Worst' album isn't the greatest for sure, but it's not a bad overview of JA...I finally caved and got their debut, Surrealistic Pillow, Baxters and a few others as well- thanks for checking in! -R
I was late to Wire too, but you got there before me. Galaxie 500 is cool, but I don't own anything by them. I love Pornography (it did seem odd to type that!).
Hi Brian- I think you'd really like Galaxie 500 and I'd suggest their "On Fire" album as a starting point....they're definitely 'different' for sure! Cheers-R

Hi Jack- HA! I did consider that when I was planning this video...so many in the VC are pretty young...to be honest, I can't imagine it's easy being new to the hobby now as the number of choices is absolutely overwhelming! Cheers- R

I don't have ANY Iron Maiden, Dave- and I know they come up on the VC quite a lot. Maybe I should try some out as well (I'm guessing Number of the Beast would be the logical starting point...) Cheers! R

Hello and greetings. Eight Vinyl Low sent me here. Sounds like you and I grew up going down similar musical paths. My dad had lots of Elvis 45s and I rocked those on the portable record player when I was 5. I was a big REM fan in the 80s. Saw them a bunch of times. I bought My Bloody Valentine on the spot after hearing it played in a record store. Records that define my taste would probably mostly be psych rock and jazz but I'm into lots of other weird stuff as well. Never heard of Biffy Clyro but that's half the fun of this hobby. There's always more records out there waiting for you. Peace

Hi Richard! Just watched Alex’s Live stream and subscribed to your channel. I have many Dave Brubeck records. One of my favorite jazz artists ever. I have a copy of Tunnel of Love but on compact disc. I have that Supertramp album as well. Really good! Big fan of The War On Drugs, but don’t have that one. ✌️

love elvis presley,it took me a few years to find em all,but i almost elvis presley 45 record between 1956 thru 1963.
Wow! That's an accomplishment! I have a LOT of his CDs and LPs but no singles.
Take 5 is an awesome album, great stuff!

Say thanks to Rob for directing me here. Let me hear your story, sir! I can certainly dig the heavy metal phase. I used to have that My Bloody Valentine album. Recently, I’m kind of starting to turn towards shoegaze. Maybe not in a big way, but The Besnard Lakes has reminded me that there’s something there. Yes, please do tell more!

Hey Richard. I'm not a jazz fan at all, but Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" is wonderful. Great Springsteen record as most of his 70s and 80s albums are. Supertramp is solid too. Nice array of Sunday morning spins.

Oddly enough, Slave Ambient was also my intro into the WoD... and it just blew up for me after I heard Lost in the Dream after that and have loved everything since. That exact Elvis record (CD, anyway) got hundreds of spins during our cross-country family road trips when I was a kid!

Hi Richard. Nice to “meet” you. Welcome to the community. Elvis’s golden records was one of the first LPs I purchased for my kids when they wanted their own records. I enjoy metal but don’t have very much in my collection. I’m not familiar with Gary Newman and never really got into shoe gaze. Also not familiar with Buffy Clyro. Oh 'wall of sound' is definitely not some people's cup of tea! I guess I love the power of all and trying to take it apart to hear/understand what's going on. Oh and that Oasis debut was a keeper for sure!

Hi Richard just subscribed. My track was classic rock into like you new wave and 80’s alternative Gary Numan / R.E.M. / simple minds/ the Alarm. The Uk bands you mentioned I am unfamiliar with and will look up.

Hi Richard - I was a KISS fan when I was a kid, but not so much now, although I get a jolt of nostalgia form hearing early KISS tracks. Numan was a big influence on me too. MBV! Also love them and the Smiths too 👍
