    Hi, I am Isaque, I am 18, I am from Brazil, and I am autistic, and unfortunately, this actually happens... When I was on his age my school colleges(6 of them) made a circle around me, and started throwing stones at me, and in Middle and to the end of high school, I never had many friends :(. That made me feel very insecure, because it feel like my mind is a very different place that most people, and that is kinda hard to deal with... But today, really, today, something really cool happened, someone that knew that I was autistic, called, so that I could tell I little bit about autistism for the kids in our church, and, it was very special, just telling, that everyone is special, not because someone is autistic, or inteligent or whatever, but that we are special because God chose us, a very special day!

      Hey Isaque!! This is so amazing to hear how God uses you to prove just how beautiful his creation is! Your life is so precious to Him, and your persecution was not in vain. We are so proud to hear how you have overcome adversity! Keep up the amazing work! The world needs to know more about autism!

    Hear me out... Its good that your boy got to see this. Not okay, but good. There's prople in this world that don't act with our heart in mind. People that either want to hurt us or just don't care if they do. Your boy has a condition that is lifelong and he will run into others who are just as ignorant and hurtful, if not moreso. What makes this moment a good one, is that you're right there to comfort and strengthen him. Help him understand that the world isn't nice, but it can be beautiful. This moment was an unkind one, but it's the type that we can use to build a solid foundation of character.

    Waiting for a seat in line at out favorite restaurant and a small special needs girl was dressed up as a princess. Dont know what came over me but I walked up fell to one knee and told her she was the most beautiful princess I had ever seen and I pledged myself to her service. She lit up like a lightbulb. Mom and Dad smiled frpm ear to ear. One time in my life where I actually did the right thing. My wife was crying thru half of dinner

    • @notanislandpodcast
      @notanislandpodcast 9 місяців тому

      Absolutely! That’s why it’s a parent’s duty and responsibility to advocate and support their children who have autism. It’s a team effort, and parenting is a small piece of a big movement to make the world just “that” much better for people who have autism 😊 As parents our hearts break every day that our son is misunderstood, mistreated, or shunned because he’s different… and that’s the whole purpose behind our podcast… to equip parents to be the best they can to support and push for the world to change for the sake of people with autism.

    aparently james running away is standard thing at school. we have to take him into school and get breakfast and deposit at class room or he explores on his own. the last week of kindergarten he got away from grandma and we literally lost him for 15 minutes at least since school is 2 blocks from house and we walk him to school. there are police who dirrect traffic at his charter school that my mom could talk to luckily a 4th grade teacher saw james 4 blocks from school and recognized he was a kindergartener at her school and convinced him to get in her car. she then called the police and one of the officers at the school and i went to get him. he then ran from church the next sunday and police were involved again and he was found blocks away from church. no further episodes months later luckily but we always hold hand in public.

    Our church is a small 40 or so attendance on a good sunday 70 year old german lutheran church my autism kid is the only perfect attendance kid and its been 10 years at least since we have had a kid luckily I grew up there started when I was 2. so my kid is kind of everyones kid for vbs last summer I found 2 day time vbs programs at 2 differnent baptist churches and upfront on enrolling said my kid is autism spectrum and I am more than willing to attend vbs with my kid since you don't know him and may not know what to do with him. and he had a good experience both times the first church had at least one kid like him that he got along with and were glad i was there. the other church they had not run across anyone like him before and were very happy to have me. I made sure to have a bag and when he needed a break i had books and we could find a corner and he could calm down. Crayola experience here in texas has one sunday a month most months that they call sensory sundays and they are autism friendly times and I am thinking of talking to grandparents that don't spend much time with james about taking him that sunday so they can have a fun outing with grandson while seeing other kids like him out with their families to help them better understand. all but one grand parent is close by and my mom is around him on a regular basis but his grandpas and stepgrandma and grandpa girlfriend not so much.

    I liked this one also James told me he was ready at 18 months to potty train we started he had minor set back with potty in public when encountered a autoflush toilet at library that went off when he was on it was nearly done at 3 and started over so i potty trained twice he was 4 when he finished for good. also as far as comunication and autistic kids are different expected to tire of why with my kid. He barely did why tended to favor what happened to them? What happened? and How does it work? more than why? we had to explain how trees and doors worked for example. Therapy really does make a difference. I have minor cerebal palsy a neuro muscular condition and was diagnosed with something neuro muscular in the mid 80s and had speach and physical therapy at school and function so well people are shocked when i admit i am neuro diverse.
