My name is Lupe and I am 27 years old. When I first started this channel, I was very excited to show you my college journey but life had other plans, and I stepped away from school for a couple of months. Since then, I’ve been sharing my day-to-day life with you, and have been enjoying it very much. I have also been bringing you guys along my journey of being part of a guide dog team. as my own camera woman and the person that puts the videos together, my videos may not always be aesthetically pleasing. But what I do bring on to this channel is reality, honesty in the life I live, and what it is like to be a blind person. I would love if you would join this community. I am glad to have such amazing friends that will wake up at five in the morning to go with me to help me find landmarks and have the patients for me to get lost and verbally guide me back to the right path! School isn’t the easiest for me. I need several departments and programs in order to be successful and achieve my goals. However, they don’t always aline, and they are extra work and stress added to an already stressful journey. But we got this! #University #Journey #Education

As someone who will never be able to experience a job like delivering food or driving people to different locations, it was so much fun to join my sister for her work. I love car rides, especially at night! By the way, ever since I got virus 19 last year, I have been losing my sense of smell and taste every time I get sick even though I am negative when I take the tests. It really sucks!

I just wanna say take it easy on yourself you’re OK your dog OK you tried frustrations happen. Life happens and if you need to take an arm until you get used to your campus so be it. No one says you have to be a perfect navigator.

Yes, I have come to realize how great it is. And it’s OK to lean on them. I need to remember that.
It’s very interesting. People would comment that! When I was in training with my dog, the instructors highly advised us that we should do an unfamiliar route with our canes first before taking our dogs! Working with a guide dog is a team effort if you do not know where you are going it is going to be more difficult to try and direct your dog and this will just cause confusion to your dog. I get that a lot of other blind and visually impaired people have more sight, but everyone does things differently and they do it in a way that will benefit both them and their dogs so I get where they’re coming from but I don’t agree that they should judge other people for the way they handle their way of learning routes.
Exactly! I am a believer of respecting everyone’s opinions, believes, and understanding that they have their own point of views. This is what’s so beautiful about having a community. We get to hear all aspects and styles which people live/experience. We can take what we can incorporate into our own styles and respect what will not.

I may have had a Blind moment because I don’t think he’s wearing his shoes in this clip. However, if he is wearing them, when there is very hot weather shoes should be put on.
So glad you’re touring the routes of campus. My daughter is a junior in college and she walked the campus multiple times to memorize routes before starting her Freshman year. It was very helpful. They also have a Starbucks in the middle of campus which my daughter loves to use as a landmark! She got lost three times her first year but all worked out and she feels comfortable now! 😊 She also learned to get to know people all over campus so if she needs help she can ask. Love your videos and happy for you!!
That’s awesome! I wish I was as brave as that. I’m going to have to get used to getting lost and problem-solving on my own. I know it’s OK to ask for help but I am terrified of talking to people. But I will have to do it so we will see how the semester goes.

I’m sorry your campus is so confusing. If you have an OM teacher instead of a fellow blind person to help you learn your campus that might be better because they can more easily help. You figure out landmarks and all
Sadly, I have to go through a program/department in order to get the services. I requested orientation and mobility back in March and got the forms in May. Never heard back from the company that would be providing the services. Hopefully I will be getting them within the next month or so. But yes, having an instructor who has studied for this. It will be a lot easier. But I’m still very grateful to have friends/family that are willing to go with me and practice or just to explore.
One thing I definitely recommend is if you’re gonna go to college learn your way around the campus before you start school so let’s say you’re starting August 27. I would start trying to learn at the latest by the beginning of August, if not sooner depending on how fast of a learner you are

Your hair and skin are pretty! You don’t look bald. I’d recommend trimming your hair. A fantastic moisturizer I use is Merle Norman nighttime recovery crème. It’s awesome. You put it on before bed. It’s not greasy. Spanish is hard for my daughter - she’s taking it now in college and is visually impaired. Do you have accommodations like extra time on assignments? They should be allowing lots of extra time for you. Great job on finishing! Congratulations 🎉 this is a HUGE achievement you should feel soooooo proud of yourself. Everything will be ok. You should definitely go!!! I just finished reading this book called ‘Do it anyway’ and it was encouraging us to do it anyway so we don’t miss out on these special moments. You are so inspiring! Shine your light!
Thank you for your very kind comments. To be honest, I didn’t know how visually my hair looked, but feeling it made me imagined me looking very bald! I do get accommodations, which has lessened the pressure, but it’s still a lot! As of now, I’m still planning on attending the ceremony.

@@lupesjourney5655 You are not alone because I go throw the same thing with the same DOR counselor as well and I do not like it at all because it frustrates me all the time. She mad me cry one time and I did not like it at all because she was pushing me down on my dream because one day I want to transfer to Pierce College to CSUN one day to get my masters degree in Child development and my DOR counselor told me that I found not do that at all. She was also forcing me to do the DPI program up north and I would always tell her no I wanted to do the DPI programs that was in LA in stead 2 years ago on July 11, 2022 tell March 31 of last yet.
