    Mortal Komabt Armageddon: had the best roster of MK (Excluding Guest Characters), but had crappy endings and a story focusing on a generic protagonist. It does have a banger soundtrack and some interesting stages at the very least.

    Armageddon only gets shit bc of the fatalities. Period. Which is ironic considering the many fans today dont even care bc "its just a 20 second cutscene". Motor kombat was fun as fuck and i played it online more than online vs. Also, mka didnt lead to the downfall of midway. After 1999, they were financially in the red nearly every single year and mk was the only property they could crank out for a profit. Anytime they woukd be taking a loss, "lets do another mk". It was their tit and they milked it all they could until they couldnt anymore. They were already drowning when mka dropped. The writing was on the wall and at the time, it was really beleived to be the final mk game. The fact that you're using gamespots list is quite hilarious it's self. Mk11, mk3 and mk1 (2023) top 5? 😂😂😂😂😂

      I remember back in the day there was a lot of backlash to MKA. Maybe I'm just misremembering, but I could not find it for the life of me. I swear I saw a video of "worst fighting games ever" and MKA was on there, but I could not find it. So yeah... I settled for Game Spot. Incredibly reliable source, I know lol. Also, I said that it directly lead to the downfall of the studio because MK was there only profitable franchise. As soon as people start to criticize the only franchise that is making you money, that's when you know its over. Maybe I'm just being naive about it, but those were my thoughts on that. I know that they were taking losses on everything else at the time and that's why they were in the red, but the cash cow getting milked dry seemed like enough of a killer to point out. Anyway, thank you for commenting. Its always nice hearing from people who are way more informed than myself.

    Mortal Kombat Armageddon could have had traditional fatalities and even more content, but i think midway wanted to save costs since the game was already 4.7GB on disc and they wanted to release it on three different platforms that were on the end of their generation.

    Its heavilly imply that the ending is a dream. Ginny and Paul find Muffin ( Terry's dog) at the door before Jason jumps. But the movie tell us Muffin is dead ( or is implied) because Jeff and Sandra find the dog corpse early.. so it can be Ginny just having a post trauma episode. Anyway.. amazing video ❤

    4:09 actually MKA was a success with it selling over 1 million units and considering that most video games in 2006 were $60 plus tax, over $60 million is pretty good when game budgets weren't as high as they are now and considering it was a ps2/xbox game that released when the ps3 and 360 were out. the problem was Midway's lack of successes that weren't MK.

    • @SaltySoupStudios
      @SaltySoupStudios 25 днів тому

      While that's true. Since MK was Midway's cash cow, I think that the downfall in the quality of the games had to have SOME profound effect on the downfall of the studio, even if the games were financially successful.

    In Mortal Kombat 1, Dameshi should've been Daegon. A bitter god whose destiny was denied because Raiden couldn't accept defeat. Would've been a nice continuation of the midway story and the characters alt costumes could also be their midway costumes.

      @@starpyre1353 Honestly that is a really interesting idea. It would've made the continuity between Deception and Armageddon much more seamless. The 3d games are already a domino effect with its stories leading into each other, making it so they introduce the Daegon as a central villain and as an angry God would've been a nice spin (even though the Onaga reveal is still amazing to this day). I have never heard of this author or book. I looked it up and it sounds interesting so I might have to look into it. @@SaltySoupStudios Oh, I meant no offense to you, personally....Cunningham has been saying this stuff for years. He gets on my nerves with all his disclaimers. It's as if he is ashamed of having made a slasher movie, so he just claims he ripped off Halloween for a quick buck. But anybody who looks carefully at this film can see that he made it with great care and very deliberately. His words always strike me as disingenuous.

    • @thomasffrench3639
      @thomasffrench3639 5 місяців тому

      @@SaltySoupStudios yeah I feel kinda bad for calling you out over it. It being a Halloween rip off is sort of true, but it feels so different for many reasons. It is probably more to do with the fact that the people working on the movie had influences from other movies aside from Friday the 13th instead of Sean S Cunningham and Victor Miller who is responsible for making it feel different, although making the mom the killer was actually a very smart move. Another big reason for it feeling different is that Halloween is one of the best crafted B-movies of all time, and Sean could not reach that level of filmmaking, so it just feels different because he’s not as competent. I think if anything, this movie really exemplifies the idea that film is a collaboration, because what makes the original film good is mostly due to Betsy Palmer, Harry Manferdini and Tom Savini, none of which are the director or writer who usually get the credit for a film being good. Although I think that this story does have potential to be great, which is interesting because the Crystal show’s season 1 was supposed to be a remake of this movie, which I would love to see improved.

  • @thomasffrench3639
    @thomasffrench3639 5 місяців тому

    Honestly, as mid as this movie is, I don't think calling it a rip off is fair. It look from all of the best 70s horror films like Psycho Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jaws, Carrie, Bay of Blood, and other giallo, and wasn't just ripping off Halloween. It feels very different from Halloween, and it's only real similarity is a tragedy and that there's a killer. I don't see much similarities, and if Sean S Cunningham didn't say that it was a rip off most people would just think it's part of the same genre. That being said, this movie isn't that great, and as far as slashers are concerned, even the kills is some of Tom Savini's weaker work in slasher films. Seriously, I would recommend his other slasher movies, most of them are great horror films (Such as Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter) and are some of my favorites in a subgenre I have a lot of mixed feelings about. This movie would unintentionally be one of the most influential 80s horror films for the gore, atmosphere, setting, and obviously the franchise it spawned. I would love to see you cover the other movies in this series, as this is one of the few names in horror that's defined by a franchise as opposed to a singular film (like Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street)

    • @SaltySoupStudios
      @SaltySoupStudios 5 місяців тому

      I think that calling it a ripoff was a bit meanspirited, but given the initial intent of the movie and the comparisons I was trying to make it felt appropriate. I do agree these are very different movies, and Friday is extremely influential (even though I feel that was almost entirely accidental). I will also say you made a very good point saying that this is one of the few franchises that is not defined by a single movie. I will keep your recommendations in mind if I ever cover the later movies or something similar (I am already considering covering Part 2). I appreciate your comments and criticism and I hope that I can continue to make content that you would enjoy.

    • @thomasffrench3639
      @thomasffrench3639 5 місяців тому

      @@SaltySoupStudios I think it’s like Star Wars where it takes a well regarded formula but makes the movie have a distinct feel. Also it’s low quality while also being a box office success probably instilled confidence that a movie doesn’t need to be good to be successful so a lot of filmmakers who were scared to start making a movie were inspired to make “something better.” It also made gore a forefront of horror marketing which was not really mainstream until this movie. If you look at mainstream 70s horror films they were not sold on the violence, but 80s horror films were. I can totally see why in the context of 1980 it can be seen as a rip off, but looking back retrospectively, it isn’t just for how the subgenre has evolved. Yeah the sequels are actually pretty decent and some are great. I think it’s better than most horror franchises and contains some of the defining films of the slasher subgenre parts 1-4 and 6 that are influential in their own right (specifically parts 1, 2, and 6). My favorites are basically Star Trek with 2-4-6 being my favorites. And if you like these movies, there’s other good slasher movies from the early 80s, especially the ones with Tom Savini that you should check out. Also have you seen the original Halloween?

    Fun review thank you! I just wanted to say these films are very much a product of their time. I also think in many ways this is a very good copycat film. I love the Halloween meets Psycho in the woods feel. The reveal at the end is great. Here we have a quiet, nice and unassuming lady who seems helpful and caring, then begins to drop her facade. We and Alice become all too aware that she's gone off the deep end. I also think that Jason never died, that perhaps he was in a coma for many years and upon his mother's death he emerges from his coma and that he too is motivated by murder, spured on by his mother talking to him while comatose. Now fully aware of his mission to exact revenge for his near drowning and his mother's brutal beheading. To once and for all keep everyone out of his backyard.

Secondly, while I was not the biggest fan of the killer's reveal, I can see why many people are. I think you hit the nail on the head with how it could work for so many Friday fans. Maybe it was my own fault for expecting a compelling mystery when that was clearly not anybody's intentions. Despite this, the movie is still very interesting and it has a lot of charm to it. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment.

      @@SaltySoupStudios I think the reason why the reveal worked in this movie is more due to a meta reason: Betsy Palmer was a well known name in 1980. So when people see her they notice the actress, which makes it surprising when she's actually the killer. It seems like it doesn't work on a modern audience Although I could be completely wrong. I've heard many people mention that when they saw it back in the day they had relief as Betsy Palmer was a sweetheart, and it surprised after the reveal. But they could be lying.
