New growing space ideas for the season ahead - Allotment UK
Today we have a quick plot update.......still very bleak in January, however signs of life are popping up everywhere!
Despite the cold weather and winter storms, I have been checking on the plot each week and harvesting kale, kalettes and brussel sprouts. Brassicas are still giving me plenty of greens for the kitchen.
I go through my plans for the allotment for the new season ahead. One of my main goals is to get a walk-in brassica cage. Hopefully by the spring!
I will be clearing one side of the poly tunnel soon to install the staging for the seed sowing we have ahead. Spring isn't that far away now.
Have a great week......don't forget to like and comment.....and if you haven't subscribed yet, click that button and follow my journey this year!

I thought I'd better check for storm damage and do a bit of a tidy up. I have also been harvesting plenty of brassicas still. We have a little look at what is growing right now on the plot. I'm currently waiting for a couple of fruit trees to go dormant so I can move them to better spots. I'm not sure they will survive but they were grown from seeds/stones so I can do that again (apricot and peach). I'm wanting to put a big trellis type structure where those trees are now and probably have that go up and over to a matching frame to create a bit of an arch for grapes (hopefully later kiwi fruit) to grow along.

    • @theflyinggardener
      @theflyinggardener 6 місяців тому

      Thanks so much! 😁 Those beds are actually pallet collars, which work brilliantly as beds. Erm, I would estimate the size as 2x1m ? Just need to ensure the height of the netting is taller than the plants….but you can easily adjust them up and down if you use old canes to put the hoops over! 😁💪🏼🌱

    Good plans Will. I've decided not to feed the voles this year with my root crops. In their usual spots I'm putting in onions, since they leave those alone. I have wide walkways, so I'm adding rows of growbags that my root crops will go in. This year will be more tomatoes and peppers in the garden, and fewer one/two of odds and ends vegs.
