I tried to throw in a couple tips to make the job easier if you are doing it yourself. With no special tools and just enough scale to be dangerous, I got these forks in shape and working properly just in time for a track day
Carbon Fiber Bodywork

After finding that my previous belly pan was too wide at the rear and scraped the track when cornering, I knew I needed to remake the whole thing. Best Carbon Fiber Finish?? 2K Matte Clear
Cool
Why would you open the throttle bodies full of brake cleaner directly into the valves/cylinders ?
Argh the more I watch the worse it gets
Haha thanks. Don’t worry, I didn’t wash the cylinders! But I was soaking the buildup around the butterfly mating surfaces. That buildup was causing the throttle to stick closed and not open smoothly. Just after I shot it with cleaner, I used a light abrasive pad and cleaned it all out from the throttlebody walls. Much smoother operation now!
Nice work, can’t wait to see what’s next for the 748. Are you selling the Helibars? Very interested, in the San Francisco area
Thanks! As for further tasks, I’ll just be adding slicks and making the side fairings from carbon… taking this to COTA in the spring! Send me an email about the bars Extramediumskills@gmail
Wow. Why do you think the extra 15cc gave you so much more power?
Making the engine more efficient with a brand new surface on the bored cylinders combined with the 13.5 to one compression ratio made a huge difference. More air and fuel were allowed in and was burnt more efficiently. Additional 15 cc were added to the bore, which made the motor more over square. Check out my later video titled “the battle for first” and you will see how much stronger this engine pulls than a stock motor with a jet kit/exhaust…. Even when I was turning this fat 180 section tire!
@@Extra-Medium-Skills Are the rings thinner than stock on the kit you used?
looks terrible.
Thanks John, love your engagement. Not mad at that comment; I totally try to get better with each new project. Will you chime in if one of my future pieces looks better? Hope to hear your objectivity! See ya at the track maybe!
Nice Bro!
Thanks mucho!
It’s beautiful. How’s she ride? You do realize so many of those parts are works of art and becoming very valuable, right?
It rides well so far. Will track it in feb or march. Thank you!😊
The tank and headlights are worth more than I paid for the bike. The seller gave me a great deal; good guy
Looks about as crusty as my 996, can't wait to see where you go with it!
I feel I’ll need to remove and clean every part eventually. No real damages or anything… just old dust & dirt
@Extra-Medium-Skills Same here, only some corrosion and broken plastic on mine really. And I'd like to repaint the frame the original color.
Congratulations man🎉, happy you achieved your goal
Thank you!! Very excited to have this in my collection
Yo theres litrelly cops in your doorstep lol so btw i love the finish and figures thats what gonna go in my work and i see pretty flaws in your work but in the end u own a pretty fast bike (that makes u reach point A to B lol again) and u working on with body parts yourself and u deserve more buddy im gonna start working on my own one soon before that i need to buy one lol for last
Thanks a lot! I love making my own parts
I am an amateur to motorcycles mechanics and i wanted to say Thank you for the simplicity 👍🏽
You’re welcome! Simpler the better, right?? More to come my friend
I've an ninja 2012 fi model.. Stock piston is 62 mm...i want to upgrade 63.5 ! What should i change NOW ??
Find a good machine shop first. Check reviews on piston kits as well as the forums for info.
For Torque & top speed what exactly the chain sprocket combination ?? 14/40... Or 15/41....??
I run 14/44 on my racebike. But, I have a 180 rear tire. The larger the front sprocket, the higher your top speed will be, assuming same size rear sprocket.
Your a legend, barley any information on this anywhere so i appreciate the effort you put in with documenting it.
Thanks so much! It’s a fantastic upgrade if you don’t want to move up to 300 class
Well done! Love your project, finally something original. How did you work out the correct geometry of the shock absorber position?
Thanks so much! The geometry is something I need to do a better job of explaining, for sure. Basically minimizing the input of the arcs to keep the deflection of the stroke to the minimum. If I think of a way to explain it better in a video, I will do so!
@Extra-Medium-Skills Yes if you could do that it would be pretty useful, l am trying to adapt a yzf r125 swingarm to an Aprilia RS 50 and i need to make upper shock mount and Lower link mount points but i have no clue how to adjust the lenght of all brakets to have a correct geometry!
Im sorry, THE INTAKE VALVES ARE SMALLER???!!!!???
Hey Corporal, good catch, I misspoke but cannot fix it without removing and reloading the video. For those reading, it’s obvious when rebuilding which way the head goes on, just match the domes to fit 👍🏽😁👍🏽
😂u got money the welds😂😂😂
Ain’t tryna brag…👍🏽😁👍🏽
Where did you get that fairing? And the front fender?
I made both!
I like your video.. simple.. Hi from ninja 250r Malaysia 🇲🇾
Thanks and welcome! Glad you are watching!!
Such a unique and interesting track.
Definitely JC! Lemme know if you make it in November!
Well done sir, well done.
Thank you kindly, señor
What model vfr did the swingarm come from? I thought they were all alot wider
94-98 VFR are the narrow ones!
@@Extra-Medium-Skills cool is that the 750 or the 800? Also what socials do you use so I can send you some pictures of my RS project?
@@kavonmchellon4651 send to my email extramediumskills@gmail.com ! Can’t wait to see. Also I think these VFR models were 750👍🏽
You've gotten so much better since you started thischannel! great work!

Some audio issues in the last 30 seconds or so. Love the channel!
Thanks! If I can figure out how to fix it I will. Appreciate you watching!!

Thanks! If I can figure out how to fix it I will. Appreciate you watching!!!
Hey man! Was just wondering what year model gsxr front forks?
These are from a 2006 Gsxr 600
@@Extra-Medium-Skillsthank you!!
This is so cool to see, I have an Rs50 I'm building with rs125 triples and zx10r forks fit right in the 125 triples! Also was able to use a Rs125 front wheel as the zx10r also uses a 20mm axle, can't wait to see how you go about this 125
Also if you want the single side swingarm look there is an older model 125 that has em, a bit of a pain to find the parts but look pretty neat, although I'm abit biased cuz I have a similar swingarm on my 50
@kavonmchellon4651 I’m pumped to hear about your similar project!!! Feel free to send me pics of your build I can share on vids!!! Keep me updated.
So sick. Congrats!
Thanks JC!!
Nah I just want to 500cc swap my 08 250r
The old ex500 motor is much heavier though… but I’d love to see your finished project!
@@Extra-Medium-Skills just on the drawing board at the moment
Top speed will be 190+ after this big bore kit ?? So only just piston Kit change for top speed ?? Gasket + Piston + ring+ 64 mm bore....?? No need to change the valve...??
Top speed won’t change much, but will be possible with higher gearing now. Acceleration is the goal vs the stock 250cc. Check out my short vid just posted to see how much faster this is than a stock motor!!! ua-cam.com/video/RmlOmhIb63w/v-deo.htmlsi=TyCp89WkM0wCJTwk
Huge main jets and stubbed needles were part of the tuning. Only other mods were port matched exhaust to the gaskets and a full 30mm inner diameter header
head gasket or cylinder gasket thickness should change or keep just stock ??
Will this fit a 2007 ninja 250 ?
Yes, the piston kit will fit that year too.
Not perfect but better yet not bad at all. Can see why this channels call extra medium. 😂
Thanks haha! Always improving… but enjoying every minute
Cheap kitchen scales would be more accurate for the resin mixing and not just a single use tool (y), nice video bro
Good point @ryancorbett-d5x! For this particular epoxy, I use volumetric measurements. The manufacturer suggests volume bc the density of each part varies. But totally true that epoxies can be weighed very accurately with cheap scales! Great budget hack 👍🏽👍🏽
The close up of the welds had me for a minute, not gonna lie
Neither confirmed nor denied 😁
Really enjoyed this, keep up the good work 😄
Thank you! 😁
I think you could use expanding foam to fill the alluminum cage, than shape it. Doing this you could make the curves right and avoid pockets of air and resin having a nice surface to lay it on. Other than that, Great work!!
Great idea! I’ve not used expanding foam in a project yet, I’ll put it in my to-try list 👍🏽😁👍🏽
wait till he figures out about cf skinning or... prepreg cf, prepreg is def the best imo
Deff love using prepreg. I’ve used that for case covers and it is great!
Best dad ever man i can't wait to get another bike so I can take my daughter for rides and teach her how fun they are
Right on! I hope you happen upon an amazing deal for your next bike!
@Extra-Medium-Skills thank you I'm sure I will
my favorite bit in these series is "heres a close up of my welds"
…not to brag, but y’know 😉
best option for carbon is a vacuum system thair rather cheep to get the components a pump from harber fraght you want the expensiveness one the cheep one is know to exsplode and a chamber to catch resin run off " easaly made from a pice of shedual 10 4 inch pvc pipe 12 inch pice shuld suit just fine matching end caps and two thread in barbs that fight 1/4 vacum hose one in from the work pice and the other out to the pump . i only say this becaous carbon is at is strongest with a one part carbon to one part resin composition and you get a sanifigently beter surface finish and way less issues working as long as your molds clean and buffed out to a glossie finish that is . nice job ither way most defitly a funtional part keep taking big bights one project at a time if you keep taking them you will surprise your self .
Thanks so much! I agree vacuuming and a real mold would be the best! I aim to do a higher quality vacuum part sometime in the winter. Lots of good instructional videos out there. You made great points! Stayed tuned my friend!
Great video! I ride a 300 at hallet for MLD. I’ve never raced but, I have been thinking about trying it. What kind of times do you need to qualify and be competitive? Did you have to get your cmra license or does legion have their own?
Thanks much! I think you should try racing. I believe my average time at Hallett is 1:39 At track days & 1:37 in races. Both CMRA and Legion have their own license programs. But since both are AMA sanctioned and offer reciprocity, you can use your license to hop into a race in either organization if you want. I think you should do it!
An insane deal! Hopefully in the next week I’ll be posting my sub $1,000 grom pickup video
Thank you so much. It’s a great feeling when you actually get a good deal every once in a while huh I’m excited to see your video.
🔥
👍🏽😁👍🏽
where can i buy these piston?
You can get these here www.jepistons.com/product/je-kawasaki-64-00-mm-bore-2-cyl-kit-2/
Can you strap two Ninja 250 in that Triumph frame ?
Almost…
Noice. There is a pod filter (reusable) that covers both intakes that you can use ... makes it way easier to get the carbs in and out. I don't know if it's better / worse for power. Nice welds ;-)
Good tip! Thanks Rick. For track day or street build I agree with @rickbates9232 , sadly I cannot employ pods or lone velocity stacks since I am required to have an air box which receives PCV gases according to tech regulations 😏
My new fave channel as someone with 2 Ninja 250's (2009) as track bikes in Australia. Can you please put that bike on a dyno? I am dying to know how much power you're making? How much lighter do you think your bike is than a Ninja 300 / 350?
Thanks Rick! I will try to find a dyno to get some numbers; great idea! The bike is 306 lbs or 138kg
@rickbates9232 Dyno run coming in September 👍🏽👍🏽
Nice upgrade! Any reason why you didn't choose the 66mm kit over the 64mm one? I am guessing the bigger they go the more chance of it going boom due to other engine parts not being designed for the additional power?
@rickbates9232 yep, I chose the 64mm for less risk of failure and/or heat dissipation struggles.
Can I just say , I had never watched any of your videos until one popped up in my recommended videos , within 3 minutes of watching one of your videos I had subscribed, your videos are absolutely awesome , my favourite part about the videos is how raw and unedited they are and that you show every aspect of your biking from what is takes to get loaded up the night before to getting on track the next day and fixing your bikes in the pits etc, you show it all how it is with no crappy music etc , If you keep posting these awesome videos I can see your channel exploding ! Much love from Ireland 😁
@kyleegan-op2xo thanks so much! I’m genuinely glad you stayed tuned in! Funny, my editing skills are definitely not best, not worst, but extra-medium level 😄 I promise to keep content real 💯
the carbon is just cool / nice job . The paint is different but not horrible . Keep up
Thanks 👍 I am addicted to carbon fiber (as one may conclude after seeing my Daytona in previous video😄)
