I don't know how I came up with an acoustic guitar simplification of this standard, but it certainly got me nicely away from Frank's territory. Phew.

The music to this song was inspired by 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and the lyrics are an adaptation of 'Beyond the Forest' starring Bette Davis.
David McAlmont Never Never Never (Live)

Never Never Never with STRINGS. When Sid, the arranger for the Vintage Revue Show, said that he had done an arrangement for this song, I instinctively resisted, thinking that the way Guy and I did this song was the ONLY way to do it. I was mistaken; the arrangement was divine and led to inconsolable weeping in the auditorium. Nice one, Sid.

David McAlmont and David Arnold. "When MOJO collared James Bond and Little Britain composer David Arnold at a party he was full of Pre Christmas spirit. We duly press-ganged him into contributing to Blue Christmas. He did so in generous fashion, recording a remarkable version of the Martin/Blane classic with one of the great British singers extant, David McAlmont." Mojo Magazine 2005.
Placed Aside

This was the b-side to first Thieves single 'Through The Door' and, at an earlier date, actually the first Thieves release, in rougher demo form, on a roster EP released by Martin Patton's Nursery label. Many people prefer this to 'Through the Door'. I think that 'Through the Door' is a resplendent sonic conceit, but it's 'Placed Aside' that packs a lasting emotional resonance.

From my favourite album, A Little Communication, a song of melodic beauty sired by Gary Clark and Boo Hewerdine, for me. I went to Gary's Chelsea basement, where he sat me down in his front room and played me this, on his grand piano; Boo was there too. Gary sang me the tune, but there were no words yet. It made me think of Bacharach and David writing for Dionne and so I grabbed it with both ha...
I'm A Better Man

Recorded for the soundtrack to a film called 'Shooting Fish', starring Kate Beckinsale, Stuart Townsend and Tom Chadbon. A great opportunity to record a lesser known Bacharach number. Boo Hewerdine produced it. I wasn't at my best when I did the performance and I can hear it in places, I think. I left the studio and didn't dare listen again, until years later I was doing a photo-shoot for Attit...
Misty Blue with Jools Holland and his Orchestra. Later 1995.

A strange but special moment. I did feel a little awkward for some reason, maybe returning to Later alone, but it was extraordinary to be included in a company of special guests that included Eric Clapton and Dr John. It felt like arrival, but I felt very much a fraud. I was distracted somehow: when people praised the performance I was numb and unable to see it the way they did. Funny thing par...
McAlmont & Butler How About You?
Переглядів 3,1 тис.14 років тому
My favourite McAlmont & Butler track. An honest account of the lonely, alcoholic nightmare of cruising dingy London pubs. Bernard erects a harrowing, phantasmagorical edifice around a desolate loner's pitiful trawl. A masterpiece even if I do say so myself. : )
What's The Excuse This Time?

A decidedly purple moment from 'The Sound of McAlmont & Butler'. The slap-back made me think of Marc Bolan, but I somehow defaulted into Mr Minneapolis. I had many epiphanies while co-writing this album; I think this may well have been the moment when I first detected Prince's affection for T-Rex. It isn't only their hands that are apparent here, I definitely borrowed from Bette Davis and Chris...
You Do. McAlmont & Butler. TOTP. 1995

A notorious occasion reported in the NME: arrival in separate cars, separate dressing rooms etc. Still a very memorable day. Celine Dion, Madonna on after us. She made us repeat our end more than once so that she could perfect her beginning. Towards the end of our performance I unleash a bit of a glare. It was aimed in her direction. I remember my evils giving her cause to look floorward. Happy...

Perfect! Entire package! Song, singer, clothes, orchestra, singer’s movement, just everything! I play over and over!
Wow what else can I say beautiful
What a beautiful singer, you have it all.
One of the greatest performances I have ever heard
Beautiful ❤
I've never heard of him before. I wasn't born yet when this aired. He sounds amazing! New fan here.
First time I've heard his version , & WOW ...... just WOW
Wow!
This is one of the most beautiful performances I’ve ever seen!🎉
The voice of an angel
I absolutely love this man's voice and even though i've always adore Whitney's version, it can't hold a candle to this. ❤
Stunning voice, so beautiful.
another great memory of this unforgettable 🎵 🎶 song. I'm loving his version as well as Dorothy's...awesome singer's ❤❤❤
Best ever version of this song. Dorothy Moore did it in the 70s but this guy has nailed it. Thank you so much, David. You really took this song to your heart. Thank you.
He's absolutely on cue with every lyric...❤
well Clapton or Dr. John couldn't have done this one,,,lol
❤❤❤❤❤
WOW. Where is he now. Amazing rendition.💛💫🖤💫💛 Just heard this 2024
A faultless copy!
Bravo!!!!!
Beautiful rendition (best)❤
Effortless vocals control
Not quite as powerful as Dorothy Moore, but, damn, just as moving, stirring, and haunting!!😮😮
Angelic vocals.
Dorothy Moore’s is one of my favourite songs of all time ! Try LaTasha Lee’s cover it’s proper old school 👍
**swoons***❤❤❤
Wow
Love you David
I'm feeling better now that I am awake e listening to this young man singing Misty Blue .❤❤❤❤
Such a talent, a golden voice, brilliant in his collaborations with Bernard Butler too
Two fantastic blokes, dream combination......
Recuerdos ❤
The only rendition that is on par with Dorothy Moore’s version
Beautiful....soooo smoothe❤
Wheres the standing ovation button?
"Mercy!!!!".......peacefully sung....love it...❤
Omg, I'm blown away
Slightly fanfuckingtastic
Gets up off a chair and does this, amazing. What a voice.
By all due respect, nothing like Dorothy's version.
🤔 How has this fab track been 'lost' for so long!?! It deserves so much love & many, many more plays and 👍 Cheers to you, #DavidMcAlmont , #GuyDavies aka #FINGERSNAP 👏
Beautiful 🥰
The best! Thank you Jools!
Brilliant
man this man can sing beautiful
Absolutely stunning. What a voice.
Oh, it's been such a long, long time Look like I'd get you off of my mind But I can't Just the thought of you (just the thought of you) Turns my whole world misty blue (misty blue) Oh honey, just the mention of your name (just your name) Turns the flicker to a flame Listen to me good, baby I think of the things we used to do And my whole world turns (misty blue) misty blue Oh baby, I should forget you Heaven knows I tried (you know I tried) Baby, when I say that I'm glad we're through Deep in my heart I know I've lied I've lied, I've lied (just the thought of you, misty blue) Oh honey, it's been such a long, long time Looks like I'd get you off of my mind But I can't Just the thought of you (just the thought of you), my love My whole world turns misty blue (misty blue) Oh, oh, I can't, oh, I can't Oh, I can't forget you My whole world turns misty blue Oh, oh, my love My whole world turns misty blue (misty blue) Baby, baby, baby, baby Baby, I can't forget you My whole world turns misty blue
David, that is by far the best rendition of that song in all the renditions I have heard. You should be proud of that moment. I listen to it frequently and I think it was those songs that were calling to you then and probably still are. Rock on!
Dorothy still the best ❤
How have I gone through life, and never heard this? Just stunned by the purity of the voice
