AC30 SHOOTOUT | ToneX and Quad Cortex VS The Real Deal!
Переглядів 10 тис.7 місяців тому
We were curious how a stock Vox AC30 would compare to the Handwired Vox AC30. Then we got to thinking, i wonder how both of these compare to modelers versions of these classic amps. We had a ToneX and our friend Kenny had a Quad Cortex so, we had Kenny over and did some tests. To be fair we were not trying to be super clinical about this test. We wanted to just turn them on and start rolling, I...

Where can I get that Stuffd jalapeños hx stomp preset?
I think that this is not necessary. The stomp can do most of it.
Lots going on there.
The definition of a pointless post.
would have been nice to hear it...
What? Im in Denison
👀
interesting that he mentioned first wanting to go deeper with guitars due to Pope/Strand's influence and having the 'XI' album as his north star...I've always thought he and Hislop were responsible for shifting the style of Bethel's guitars away from those guys towards something more similar to what you might expect from hillsong/elevation etc. The mixes have defo moved in that direction over the past 10 years or so. Go back to Tides live/Brave/Have It All and the style is so much more 'in your face’, where there would only ever be 2 parts or very occasionally a 3rd textural part. Now there’s like 4/5 guitar tracks per song and they’re arranged as if they’re not expecting to be loud in the mix. I'm sure it's not always the guitarist's choice, but if Pope/Strand were his inspiration I can imagine that being a frustrating trend for him.
Maybe we will have to get him back on and talk about that next time! I think you can be influenced by someone, yet still go a different direction stylistically. Love that you mentioned Tides. I feel like that album gets overlooked a lot but it is SO good. We Will Not Be Shaken has some really subtle, yet brilliant guitar stuff. I think the newest album, Come Up Here, kind of heads back in that direction.
@@frequencyco I would love an episode like that! Yeah so true! Tides is also interesting tonally because its one of the only albums where the majority of the guitars are double tracked rather than stereo. WWNBS is similar in that way, but as you say its much more subtle and the parts are generally more textural in approach. But there are a whole load of amazing acoustic parts that take centre stage on that one!
@Tim-545 Yes! The acoustic parts on WWNBS are so good!
Which tophat is that in the back? A king royale?
Yes sir it is! Good eye. King Royale 35. You can check it out on our website www.frequencycofw.com/shop/Amp-Heads-and-Cabinets/p/Top-Hat-King-Royale-35-Combo-Amplifier-x86609162.htm
May want to change your show name…

@@frequencycogreat thank you! 😊 best wishes
Quick question, are you saying I should add a preamp pedal before my helix and that will warm it up or do I need to put it in the effects loop at some point?
I would say before personally. Kenyon may have a different opinion!
Where is your shop in DFW?
Fort Worth! 1605 Clover Lane Fort Worth Texas
Hi Dennis, we are located at 1605 Clover Lane Fort Worth Texas
Fully agree on the longer decay on the 70s/Plate on the Flint. I miss that pedal for sure sometimes.
There is something special about it for sure!
Great job with this one guys🔥
Thanks Matt, glad you liked it!
Nice chat! ;) Media offline at the end, I know that feeling :D
Can't win them all I guess...
I'd rather let the pedals do the work to go dirtier. leave the gain at 12. Great Interview!!!!
Yeah I totally get that. And thank you!
Heads up.. there’s already a long running UA-cam guitar show named tone talk..
Yeah it’s Mark and Dave Friedman.
Thanks…they should change the name
Just changed it, sorry about that guys, didn't mean to encroach on y'alls show.

they are very sweet guitars
Love it!
Appreciate it!
Incredible! Can't wait for more stuff like this!
More coming for sure! Thanks for following!
Tasty P-Bass tone man!
Thanks, it's always fun to play a P-Bass!
Quad Cortex sounded terrible here.
play something maybe?
A bit much.
Sounds incredible
Tone is MASSIVE! Awesome playing!🖤
thank you! Yeah David is a BEAST on bass and really knows how to get a huge sound.
I need a pedalboard wired but live in Nashville. Have a local resource you trust in Nashville?
XTS
Hi, We do boards for guys all over the US, shoot us an email at Contactus@frequencycofw.com and we would love to discuss it with you.
As cities burn. Noice. That colour way is awesome, where u get it?
ACB is the best! Pumped that someone recognized the riff! It was a limited edition we got directly from Benson awhile back. It was called "Dan Flashes" which was a nod to the Netflix series I Think You Should Leave.
Nice sounding D35.
How do you not even know where he makes the guitars ? Lmao. Typical dude bro with a hypster mustache
I bought one of these QC to capture my neighbors 60’s Vox. They just can’t do it.
There is really nothing like the real thing!
@ true
Absolutely epic
Thanks!
Guitar playing was pretty dreadful for a demo. I think the difference between the Quad Cortex and actual amps could have been addressed with better EQ - it was way too dark. Also agree with other comments that a capture of an actual AC-30 would have been a closer comparison than the modeled amp.
Not a pleasant sound. See Julian Lage for a better rep of this instrument. He's even in tune.
1:05 REAL AMP AC30 HW 1:28 QUAD 1:55 TONEX
are these available to recreate or on custom tone?
Next time maybe use the same ir... And captures from the real amps
QC and tonex should be captured through a miked frfr box... then yes it would be fair... capturing the miked amplifiers and the QC and tonex via DI is not a fair comparison
Glad to hear I'm not the only Dashboard fan still around... :) Sounds great!
Why the examples are not level matched? How can you compare 2 sounds when one is 6db louder than the other one ? doesn;t make any sense
What mic are you all using? Sounds great!
Something went wrong in the capture process for both units. The high end rolloff should not be this exaggerated on either unit. This is extreme. My captures do not suffer from this amount of difference.
That’s a tidy little board. I love the Atmosphere. I’ve had 2, and original v1 and now the newest v2.2 with the expression knob…. A possible change you might make would be to put the Cloudburst in the loop of the Baggs. You could also get the “Favorite” switch from Strymon so you can have 2 settings within the Cloudburst.
I'll try it out!
Short answer? No.
Long answer: after having owned over 10 telecasters, from fender, boutique, vintage, and not willing to pay big price for a grail 50’s tele, yes! Lightweight, resonant, beautiful sound
I'm a vintage Fender tone snob. I prefer the tone of the Quad Cortex. Does it sound exactly like the Deluxe in this example? No, I think it sounds better, but different, like a different amp with different speaker was used to model it. Honestly the real Deluxe here is super mid rangey and kinda dark, almost more like a Princeton than a typical Deluxe. I own a 66 Twin and the QC model sounds closer to it than the DR does.
apart from the fact that the QC and tonex should be captured through a miked frfr box... then yes it would be fair... capturing the miked amplifiers and the QC and tonex via DI is not a fair comparison
I love the drive sounds provided here! Is there somewhere I can find this preset?
Nacho you are doing a great job but thanks, I'll buy a vintage tele.
Hm! Such a great guitar through Helix? Please no.
