I'll trust you on this because your rant review of The Way of Kings really resonated with me and will pick this series up again. I thought that maybe it was my mistake to choose to experience the Farseer trilogy via audiobook but i see now... it wasn't just that, it also was the book all along. But since the audiobook of Ship of Magic sounds atrocious anyway, I might actually engage with a copy!!

Red Rising is teen fiction. I don’t know why so many readers pretend it’s not. Just because it has a lot of violence doesn’t make a story mature. I enjoyed it more than you did but when people say the sequels are better, they mean there’s more over the top action and space battles, and personally I’m looking for more depth

This Book is one of my all time favorites. Currently rereading it and gave it away as a gift, have several edition. I am happy that the Spanish translation has the same features as the German one. I mean how good is the translation when the kept the Alphabet in Order German, Spanish completely different languages. I know you have some international editions of books you like as Harry potter in German for example. There is a relatively new illustrated edition of " Die unendliche Geschichte, illustrierte Ausgabe" with new illustrations in a large format. Maybe you have a look on the internet, as a Psychoanalyst you would find the new illustrations interesting for interpretations.

Interesting, back than you liked Video Games, what happened during the years that you say you absolutely dont like them, i am coming from the ROP Video that's why I remember it you say that the movie the Hobbit is like a Video game so just curious. I do understand that people have their preferences I for myself never was into video games too where all my friends was.

I wish you had delved deeper into what exactly you didn't like about it, but I can relate to the absolute rage of having read a book you hated lol. I disliked the book too, though probably not as strongly as you. I thought it was trying to be too many things at once, it was quite heavy handed in its preaching, and the last third of the plot was completely ridiculous.

Couldn’t agree more about Red Rising. Honestly I’ve never made it past like 3 chapters, and I’ve tried multiple times. It’s so bad and sorry but the writing is so bad. It’s present tense if I recall? You have to be really good to pull that off for me.

I'm so glad I'm not the only who feels like this! The world building isn't that bad in my opinion, but the characters, magic, and prose... Oof. I started writing a high fantasy novel as a young teen and took it very seriously. I'm still working on editing it and getting it traditionally published. I would read mostly ASOIAF to learn (which I think is peak fantasy and prose, especially the later books). At around fifteen I tried giving Brandon Sanderson a try, and unironically ended up feeling very encouraged by the fact that I felt I could "match his prose". I was *fifteen* . Even then I knew it just didn't cut it. It sounded bad in my head, clumsy and unedited. When it comes to characters, I felt he really struggled writing the female ones (which he has confessed in a blog, saying he struggles to "make them more than love interests" (in the 21st century? Seriously??)), and all ended up feeling like tropes. And the magic might be personal preference... But I can't stand magic that's so "hard". It feels like maths, no magic. No mystery, no beauty... No true fantasy.

Every book in this series gave me a feeling that there’s so much that I’m missing, and that I’ll only be able to read it for real at a second reading. Rowling is a master of hidden clues, Easter eggs, and parallels and metaphors to reality. Only questions is, the huge gap in appeal between the two series considered, are there enough fans out there who are willing to embark on this monumental journey.

Thanks. When I first got into fantasy I tried Brandon Sanderson. So many positive youtube reviews. I felt gaslit by the community, it was like I was reading different books. YA, poor prose, too much hand holding, simple characters. I really didn't care for it. I then read the Dandelion Dynasty, a real fantasy series. No comparison.

I have not read Sanderson so I make this comment assuming what you say is true and add that a problem with him now being so big is that there is little chance that an editor would be able to give him this corrections. so he probably would not improve. someone said his writing is basically equivalent of McDonalds
