This is 100% speculation but Sammy always to be his happiest when he was onstage performing!! Always seemed to be in a state of pure elation when he was singing. Sammy did about a 13 minute medley Of Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse songs on Playboy After Dark around 1968 with Anthony Newley in the audience. Sammy was in a state of pure ecstasy performing in front of only about 40 people.

What can one say: he was the most incredible performer, ever!!!

How prophetic can something be. One of the most natural entertainers to ever lived who could obviously hear what smoking was doing to his voice but could not stop because of the times that he lived in and the marketing of cigarettes and who knows what demons were lurking in Sammy's mind that would make him keep smoking like that and then at the very end of the song takes a puff of the cigarette and then says..." I must die"0. By the way I love the way he did this song and made the band feel comfortable who obviously never did this arrangement before but in this business you got to expect anything

Burt once said that he didn’t think his music was jazzy enough, so he was overjoyed when he noticed prominent jazz artists started having their takes on his songs. This version has a warm and relentless beat, with a familiar sound. Just brilliant.
