Detailed video on "popping up" my 2005 Fleetwood Sea Pine folding trailer while boondocking in the National Forest in Arizona. Setting up a folding trailer is a process which takes time. After owning the trailer for so long, I have the setup process down to a science.

Visited Natural Bridge State Park in Virginia on a cross country road trip. This is a beautiful place with great scenery! highly recommend you stop in. It's not far from Highway 81 in Virginia just south of the appropriately named town of Natural Bridge. The trail to the Natural Bridge is down several flights of stairs, but once down it's a nicely paved trail to the bridge and the waterfall.

I stayed in this KOA Kabin in Foss, OK while on a cross country road trip in a U-Haul truck. The word Kabin is spelled correctly in this case. Mabry Mill is an excellent stop along a road trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are no entry or parking fees at this destination and you are allowed to roam freely. Viewing in the fall while the leaves are changing colors is fantastic. I was a little early for the fall color change in this video. Mabry Mill is managed by the National Park Service. 15 foot U-Haul truck review and tour

I rented this 15 foot U-Haul truck for an 8-day cross country move. Didn't have any mechanical troubles along the way so it worked well for me. the 15 feet is measured along the top of the cargo box. The entire truck is actually 22 feet 6 inches in length.

Please, please, please pick after yourself when boondocking in our National Forests and other campsites. I camp primarily on public lands and routinely have to cleanup campsites, some with a full bag of trash left by previous campers. Make sure you leave the campsite better than you found it.

Thanks for posting this video. Videos like these help to calm anxiety in alot of people who are doing this for the first time. U-Haul does kind of give you the keys and say, "Good luck!" So vids like this actually help to prepare the driver.

just drove one of these from portland ,OR to bend Or through the mountains. it was packed from top to bottom. it drove like a dream. 75 on the freeway and passing cars in the hills. the manual part of the transmission works great. highly recommend these.

I got lucky and didn't encounter any road hazards or have any issues with the truck.
I use to always pay the $11 a day for uhaul Collision / Damage Waiver for peace of mind. Now they changed the name of it to safemove and raised raised the price to $25 a day Thats more then the $19.95 a day Van rental fee. I'm going to check to see if my Credit Card cover a Uhaul van. My credit card does cover car insurance.

This was very informative, thank you! I also have a cross country move coming up, how did you find safe places to park truck during the night. Or did you just relay on a really good lock?
I planned out every stop ahead of time and made reservations. This way I knew exactly how long I would be driving each day and route I was gong to take. I did have a good, beefy padlock I found in my parents basement. But it was nothing a pair of bolt cutters couldn't cut through. I highly recommend a padlock of some sort.

Thank you for sharing this. My only "complaint" is I would have liked to know what type of lock you used to secure the box.
It was like a Master padlock with a key, but much beefier and larger than a normal one. I found it in my father's basement and was really old. A standard size padlock isn't big enough to secure the door. Ask the person about it when you rent the truck. You may have better luck than I did if purchasing one from the selection of locks they have. They did give me my money back for the one I bought from them that didn't work.
Going to be moving from Boston to St. Paul this December, as the result of a job relocation… and I am thinking this size of a truck will be my best bet! Thanks so much for this!

How much money did it take to fill the tank and how long did it last?
The cost to fill the tank depends on what part of the country you are driving in. The cheapest gas was in New England @ around $2.75 per gallon. it gets more expensive as you drive West. by the time I got to Arizona it was $4.05 per gallon. The truck has a 38 gallon tank so it varies with the price of gas. It got decent gas mileage, but the truck wasn't even half full. I tried not to let it below 1/2 tank if I could.

What is the height clearance for this truck?
The height of this 15 foot truck is 11 feet 0 inches. if you are renting a different size truck look for a yellow sticker that tells what the height is.

rental fee ?
The truck cost $1865 to rent for a cross country trip (Maine to Arizona). This included the $155 Safe Move insurance incase something happened (which it didn't). It came with a 10 day and 3346 mileage allowance with a pretty steep charge for miles driven above that. I returned the truck in 8 days with 3107 miles on it.

I drove 3080 miles on this trip and spent $1206 in gas. I got about 10 MPG with the truck. I took it through mountains and wasn't babying the truck. You might do better if you take a more fuel efficient route than I did.

Would you have to buy your own pad lock for the back door?
yes, you will. U-Haul does not provide one. Most rental places sell them, but I did not have a good experience with the one I got. The key did not fit the lock and only worked 1 out of 5 times. I did not feel comfortable with it so I returned it . I ended up using a large padlock a friend let me borrow.
