Towera: God bless you for this post! I spent my adolescence in Ramsgate; being educated at Chatham House Gramnmar School (Now the Chatham & Clarendon Grammar School), before going off to university. The main Ramsgate Tunnel was to allow trains to continue from the railway station at which you alighted, through the tunnel, to a station on the beach! This was demolished a century ago; but the tunnel provided shelter for the residents during WWII; located geographically in the part of England referred-to as "Hell-Fire Corner". Brenda Blethyn used to live in the town (not sure whether she still does); and Chatham House School was the 'alma mater' of the late Frank Muir (comedian), Sir Edward Heath (Prime Minister), and Isambard Kingdom Brunel (for a short time). The West Cliff of Ramsgate leads to the delightful little village of Pegwell (after which the huge bay is named); where there is an old pub - The Belle Vue - where I worked as a barman, and sold drinks to John le Mesurier. It has a cliff-top beer-garden, overlooking the bay. Another historic connection is with the architect of St Stephen's Tower, Westminster (Big Ben), and the interiors of the Houses of Parliament, Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin; who is buried in his own chantry chapel within Ramsgate Abbey, on the West Cliff. So glad you enjoyed this gorgeous little town: being raised there in the 1960s was a real privilege.
Wow I really enjoyed reading this, that’s so interesting that the tunnel was meant to be a railway tunnel, I did wonder how it was created in a short time to provide refuge to the residents during WW2. ANow I can’t wait to see more of it next time when I visit. It must have been so wonderful to grow up there, it’s a really nice town. Thank you for watching and sharing this ☺️
Just to confirm there literally hundreds of sandy beaches throughout the UK. I would say the area with alot of shingle beaches is predominantly Kent and Sussex, but elsewhere across the country you will find them everywhere.
Uk is known for Pebble beaches, it’s a fact that UK has more pebble beaches than sandy ones
@@towera I'm afraid you are talking nonsense, the UK is not known for pebble beaches that is your and maybe your group of friends perception. The ones by your own admission refuse to even travel to the North of England I have lived all my life in the UK and clearly travelled FAR more extensively across the UK than you have. I would suggest you at least leave South East of England even to the West Country you can then talk with more authority, at the moment you are just making silly statements with absolutely no basis in fact.
@@neilboulton9813 I actually thought you were someone who tries to use logic but clearly you’re a troll bye
There are usually quite a few gulls at the seaside, but a lot more around the dumps..
the beach is only a mile walk from the station and has a regular bus service how people of ths generation jump in a taxi
Time is too valuable when you’re on holiday, there is no way I’m wasting valuable time waiting for buses if I don’t have to
fun facts: Namibia has a population of about 2-3million and yet one of the most diverse demographics. 2nd least population density English is the official language but Afrikaans(Dutch-ish) is spoken mostly in the South including swakopmund. Gained independence in 1990. Oldest desert in the word, I think Oldest tribe in the world (San people) Some of the most beautiful women in the world😎
Waw, this is surely unlike the UK I know. Although I have only been in London, I made uniformed conclusion that, "there is nothing home", #Namibia that's.... But this town/City is more like our Cities down in the land of the brave, open space and wider streets compared to what I saw in London and expected similarities throughout UK, But was wrong 😂 You truly doing great, uncovering hidden attractions 👋🏿
Haha, yeah I used to travel like this two but I realised it’s not fair to judge a whole country based on one city. London is different from the rest of the UK, even the culture. So now when I travel, I try to cover a few cities, the same way I did with Namibia ☺️ Windhoek is very different from Walvis bay aesthetically. But if I only visited Windhoek I never would’ve known how unique Walvis bay is. I’ve also noticed with London a lot of people are going with the most basic tourist things that might be boring to some. Also people from some countries would take like 2-3 days to visit, as someone who has lived in london and knows how much it has, this is no where near enough that’s why people are limited with basic tourist things. And thank you for your support again 😊
@@towera It's clear that you do it uniquely different... Keep up
I do find the ignorance of certain foreign visitors astounding at times. I visited Tokyo in Japan last year. To think that my perception of Japan and Japanese culture would be based on that one city and how it is laid out is beyond ludicrous. Maybe it is an African thing, but trust me for country the size of the state of Idaho, the UK has incredible diversity in architecture, landscapes, dialect, cuisine. I know people are on tight schedules when visiting but do your research and at the very least watch more people on UA-cam who travel more extensively before you visit to open your EYES.
So you’re trying to point out someone’s ignorance while showing yours aswel? “Maybe it’s an Africa thing “ that on its on is ignorant because we’re not a monolith! we come from thousands of cultures and within those cultures we are also able to form individual opinions. Do the Spanish act the same way as Germans just because they’re all European ? You’re saying this particular demographic “Africans “ have this narrow minded view yet most British people I’ve grown up around refuse to even go to the north of England, so should I generalise all English people as narrow minded based on the few people I know? There is youtube to learn these things you know 😉 there is also nicer language to use when having a discussion. @lions-pride-dominion clearly has stated they were wrong and still exploring , what more do you want them to say? In case you forgot they are watching this on UA-cam. Anyway I hope you can rethink what you just said and thanks for watching

The trains are "not bad"??? And in all French hotels, breakfast was "decent"??? And, to drink Coca Cola with good food is a sin!

What a comment in this day and age. Wake up to humanity brother 🥺
The Black African majority in Namibia needs to OCCUPY Swakopmund by RESTRICTING the number of non-Namibian ( non citzens) business owners and land owners. It is up to the Namibian to be more pro-active on this front.
Not me sitting in Swakopmund rn

You are very right. And for your own information the GPS we use here has a discrepancy of 4 -20metres, which means you will never be accurate in any way. Secondly, the road infrastructures are so pathetic. And we have unnecessary traffic jams. I would take you more than 30mins to leave the city or arrive at your destination.
