Thank you for your perspective about learning from other artists and incorporating their style into your own artwork. That’s an art in itself. Watching this video has been very liberating for me.
Thank you
Thank you for sharing your journey towards abstraction in your painting. I have found this very educational.
I'm so glad
semi-abstract works for me as a term.
Love your videos ❤
Very nice dear sir, keep it up !
Lithography is not carved but uses waterrepellent mediums on waterfriendly stone slabs, Still multicolored prints are complicated in that times. Nice video, thank you.
I'd like the bicycle poster for my wall😊
isn't it gorgeous?
fascinating! that shift from newspaper style to works of art... wow! I love noticing all the art that exists quietly around me in packaging, textiles etc., underappreciated!
I was lucky, so I believe. My work involved a lot of flying, so I stuck with watercolour for years, when I finally started with oils I found a lot of my W/C techniques useful. Good Video, Paul Thanks. MJ
After 30 years of painting both in watercolour and oils, my own style is slowly emerging and I can trace it back through several artists who have been my mentors. Great video, Paul.
When you start in anything, you don't know anything, inevitably you have to copy, later you reach a level of understanding of the principles and can hoan your own style - oversimplified but true
Thanks you for your analysis and thoughts. Also for using your voice, not a generated one. As I am only English speaking, when l get hung up on a pronunciation l search 'pronounce __x__' here on youtube. With Modigliani l didn't know the 'g' in Italian is silent.

Great post thank you 😊
Thank you for the great post
I'm always so inspired by your takes on influential artists and their process. thank you.
I would like to hear your thoughts on Franklin Carmichael's watercolors and mixed media landscapes. If you don't already know him, he was Canadian landscape painter and I find his approach to skies and shapes fascinating. Don't know if you ever take suggestions like this for a video, but I think you'd have something interesting to say about his work.
What are the large chunky pastels called?

I like to be a rebel so ...lol🖊✏🖍✍🖌🎨📓💙🇨🇦🇺🇲
so beautiful 😍❤ new subscriber
it's a good question... for me it's a way to relate emotionally to the subject, outside of words.
Thank you😊
I think patient observation is vital to an artist. Artists of his time were incredibly prolific with their sketches and colour studies done outdoors. 🧡🌱🌿
I never knew Van Gogh did watercolor. Thank you for the information!
Very. Nice. Paul
thank you
I like your video. If I may, the difference between what you are doing and what Seurat did was that he used Conte crayon rather than charcoal. Once you put the Conte down, you can't erase it.
I'm 59. I was once a commercial artist for a living. I loved to draw and use pastel chalks when I was younger. I got into 3 dimensional modeling medium, then came the commercial art. That worked out till the textile industry left the US, and I went into jewelry making. That didn't work out as well because I'm not a good sales person. It may have been that producing art was no fun to me anymore, due to it becoming my job, so I stayed away from any art for some years and then, decided to get into water color. I bought several things and tried it out. It seemed fun although I was used to working very tight. I just found out, last night, that I produced several nice works before I drifted away from. it. That was a decade ago and I'm feeling my old self again. Wish me luck
I'm glad you're feeling your old self again. When I got back into art a few years ago I chose watercolor. It was difficult at first but once I settled on a loose abstract style I was able to make art I was happy with. For those of us that are creative I think it is not just good but maybe necessary to make art. Good luck.
Thanks so much! I'm looking forward to see more of such educational videos!
thank you
Thank you for another good video. I enjoyed your thoughts at the end about nonsense rules. I teach drawing, among other classes, and there's a lot of conceptual fluffery abound on the internet. I avoid these things and aim for the most simple and efficient path to establishing drawing skill, which on its own is already tricky enough. Being able to see value, for instance, is hard for most people, but it's obviously important, so I focus on it. The Loomis method, on the other hand, or needing to study anatomy, are disposable ideas, not necessary. But I tell my students they're more than welcome to explore these things if they want, if they feel it helps them or it's interesting to them, but that they make the path to drawing expertise harder than it needs to be.
thank you
As soon as I heard you bashing the rule of thirds, I headed over to the subscribe button. Sadly, it had already been used. Here's my rule of thirds: If it looks good to me, then it's perfect. Repeat two more times.
Funny. :D
Thank you
hahaha! art "rules" are a trigger for you? I never noticed that before... 😆
yes, these silly rules raise my blood pressure, especially the unnecessary rules that might hold some people back from making progress in their art
@@PaulONeill_art ...and that's one big reason i enjoy your videos! 🙏🏼
I like what you said about open vs. closed composition, and the traditional assumption that you have to guide the viewer's eye through the painting. I have noticed that my eye roams all over the painting in all directions. I always thought I was wrong and just didn't know how to view a painting, but what you said makes total sense to me. Thanks!
thank you
Paul, I loved the loose way you draw! It is so fresh and appealing! I certainly am trying to do it myself! Thank you for sharing your process and your ideas!
Thank you.
Beautiful!
Thank you
Ei Paul! Loved your process! Such an inspiration! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks
Beautiful!!!
Thank you
We have canola fields nearby, here in South Africa. Very inspiring. Wide open spaces, hills, the sea, the river. When we go driving, I kind of absorb and drink it all in for later. When we drove through the mountains, it was a real treat. Thanks for sharing
Thank you
Agree! Beautiful flower paintings!
Thank you
Liked "bread and soup" analogy.
oh that was cool! so great to get challenged like that!
I really appreciate your reviews and explanations of art history. today's discussion of modern / postmodern filled a big gap my understanding...
Always appreciate the mini lessons ❤
Always come away with something useful from watching.
Great advise. Thank you.
yep, that was useful! removing the overthinking by doing those 30 second exercises sounds like fun also.
Still figuring out this question....
I knew the answer, but it’s good to hear it again.
I picked up water color at 59 during the pandemic & have been enjoying my artistic journey ever since. Never too late!
OMG! I posted my comment and now am reading yours. We are both getting into watercolor at 59. I did do it before for a short time, though. Good luck and hope you enjoy.
I'm fairly sure it's illegal in Afghanistan. At least for some people
Agreed, it is about the trip, not the destination
