In this class, we're typing actor Natasha Lyonne.
How do you get good at a skill? How do you become a true expert? Some people think it's as "simple" as practising something for 10,000 hours. But not so. In his latest article, Felix unpacks the science of expertise, and talks about what it really takes to become a great specialist: practical-newsletter.beehiiv.com/p/guide-to-expertise
Practical Personality is Holly (FM-Te/Ne-PC/S(B)#3) and Felix (FF-Ti/Se-CS/P(B)#2).

We started typing additional celebrities on our own for more practice. We have a small stack by now and would like to share our experiences with others.
Every four weeks, we release one typing class on a new celebrity. These celebrities have been typed by us, but the type is confirmed by Shan and Dave.
We want to share the lessons we’re learning from the perspective of long-time typing students who are neither newbies nor masters of the trade. We’ll release the full 512 type (and social type if we know it), but won’t go through every coin in detail. We’ll focus on the parts that were most challenging for us.
If Shan and Dave don’t beat us to it, these types will be completely new and unknown. This gives everybody interested an additional opportunity to practice their typing skills.
We announce upcoming classes with a newsletter and on social media a few weeks in advance.

      Nice work! Do you mean ENFP though? She's Ne/Te, which would make her an ENFP jumper

      @@practicalpersonality !! i still have trouble getting how someone can be an 'enfp' when their second savior is Te ??

    • @practicalpersonality
      @practicalpersonality 6 днів тому

      @ I see how this is confusing. She's a thinker after all. The reason is a technical definition. We call every type with Ne first and Fi/Te in middle an ENFP, independent of whether Fi or Te is the saviour. They all have the ENFP function stack (Ne-Fi-Te-Si), but some of them are so-called jumpers, like Natasha, because they jump their second function and the third function in the stack is the other saviour. We're doing that because we regard having the same function stack as a meaningful commonality (and I guess because it's a legacy term from MBTI). But you're definitely not the first one asking this question, which suggests that this convention might need changing.

    I’m wondering if thinkers have this problem of feeling embarrassed when they feel. Anyway looked back at your videos and the comments are tame. Don’t know where the public backlash was. I like how Spencer Pratt handles hate but he’s a feeler so you’d probably not agree. He’s hilarious.

    • @practicalpersonality
      @practicalpersonality 15 днів тому

      It probably is common for thinkers to feel embarrassment or shame when they get triggered, and probably more so for those with feeling last. The negativity came from another social media platform - most of the comments we have received on UA-cam have been absolutely fine 🙂 Spencer Pratt is an interesting character. I know he was made to play the villain on The Hills, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is a double-decider, which would help him deal with the haters 😆 what is it about how he handles the hate that you like?

  • @PowerRedBullTypology
    @PowerRedBullTypology 29 днів тому

    It's a disgrace that you got attacked about having people attack you for merely having _logical, and especially reasonal_ issues with OPS (if this is about that), as if it's members should act like it's 100% totally flawless system, like it's some holy book that has no imperfections. I think some people in that community need to step up and try to do something about that cult behaviour that you can not even say anything negative about the leaders of the cult or the system. I'm not sure if behaving friendly and humble really is the best course of action, for the greater good at least, because it just shows once again how much in line you have to fall and act overly humble, submissive worshipper if you want to be part of that system. If you look at you two, who dedicated a youtube channel to that system and letting them verify it, only shows how great your respect is. I would say it's too much respect, if that respect is not given back for just having an opinion that you can apparently not reasonably express. . If a system is good and it's creators have a healthy mindset then they could look at the obvious flaws in their system that people have pointed out on so many occasions, yet apparently they do not see that such critiques can make their system better. Listen to your customers and if they have something useful to say and do something with it, rather than basically keep adding more parts to a system that is basically self conflicting already. It's like game companies keep releasing new add-on to computer games while the customers just want a stable game without bugs that does not crash the whole time. It's basically a mini version of the cancel culture of the last years that most people hate.

    • @ChrisG-e4k
      @ChrisG-e4k 29 днів тому

      From what I've seen, they do listen to their customers. Just because they don't do EVERYTHING you want, doesn't mean they don't listen. It's really easy to say SOMEONE ELSE should do something you don't like. Maybe, just how Felix and Holly are working on their demons to be better, you may want to consider being that person to step up and be the change of this "cult" behavior.

    The problem she had with typing people makes sense when you basically have all these different 'systems' overlap. Animals, human needs, social types etc... Sure, if someone you compare yourself with someone who was was officially typed the same but has a different social type, in an ideal world where the assumption is that everyone is correctly typed in this system with thousands types would indeed be a good the explanation. However, each time another layer of such ' sub-system' is added that basically completely overlaps the previous systems, as in they cover the same terrain, it becomes increasingly more likely that the typing is might be incorrect, cause it's for example you could say it's the animal that explains certain behaviour rather than the social type or the human nature (self/tribe etc stuff). If there are endless ways of explaining the same things, it becomes more and more subjective, as in open for interpretation and less and less objective. If you compare this to psychologists, studies have found that when the same patient was evaluated by different clinicians, there was only moderate agreement on the diagnosis while there is a far, far smaller number of diagnoses to choose from. However, Dave (and Shan?) keeps adding more and more types, now i believe like 2000+ and seem to forget or not care about the fact that statistically the likelihood of them being right about a type must go down with each new sub-system they add on top. Its like playing darts and constantly increasing the amount of area's. Let's say there are 10 areas on a dartboard or 1000. When are you more likely going to be able to accurately throw the dart to the intended area? This clearly goes down with each time you add more areas, because the areas simply become smaller. On top of that , it becomes more and more unfalsifiable with each addition, because you can never proof anything to be wrong because there is always something in a type that could explain something. If the person clearly behaves ultra extraverted while being typed an introverted, you always say it comes from the animals, or from the social type etc etc... It basically becomes like a religion where you really can not proof anything. Science is about the natural world, so the non natural world can never be really proven to not exist and neither cna it be proven to exist. However, you could come up with endless religions and which one would be right, if any are right is completely impossible for anyone to even know.

    This is why Ts are so comforting to be around; when F is expressed it matters beyond an initial emotional response. Most of the time they're stable/level headed, and when F comes to light it's honest, childlike (sometimes childish haha) and an actual release, not just an expression the way Fs tend to do. This was what I originally was gonna comment: Cute!! (love from lead fFi rollercoaster emotion haha.)

    Love this video! “I’m...really hurt and sad” That’s the freaking truth and it takes two seconds But then we also have to feel that, which is awfuuuul :( Excited for what you choose to share next around this, especially on learning “building emotional competency”, that sounds excellent! I struggle with what to do when we choose to be vulnerable and then get kicked in that soft spot. How to experience and heal those negative emotions when they get unexpectedly compounded is such a difficult thing. When the worst case scenario happens for demon feeling >> the feeling is made even worse.

    • @practicalpersonality
      @practicalpersonality Місяць тому

      Yes, that scenario is truly scary. 😨 That’s one of the difficult things about being vulnerable. If you’re not vulnerable, you’re guaranteed to not make deep connections. But on the other hand, being vulnerable doesn’t guarantee making a connection either. (I need to find another way to say that more clearly. 😅) I don’t think there are any hard and fast rules when it comes to dealing with things like people hurting you. It might mean you need to suck it up, be the bigger person, and communicate more or better. But it might also mean to set boundaries and let certain people go. I don’t think there’s any kind of easy solution, though.

      I really think it depends on the Fi state of the person with Te. But you’re right that blindly agreeing with the Ti person might exactly be the wrong thing to do. The person with Ti might actually want the Te to care about their work and constructively critique it to make it better.

I think the issue here is that "letting it be" can sometimes feel like i'm being pushed on or diminished in some way and that i'd be letting it happen, or something like that, which is a big no no. Although sometimes i'm just simply baffled by a statement and can't let it go. ... yes this is a charged topic for me.

    The opposite of feelers that argue are feelers that agree to avoid confrontation, not address the issue and end up having to do things they don't want because they're so agreeable and they have no clue what the other really thinks. It's likely optimal to be in the middle or as I do it with my gf, we use me as the person to disagree if that is needed and she's there to agree cause it just drains me out to agree if do not fully agree (which is rare) - I mean in cases we have to deal with disagreement or agreement in real life together and other people. Me and my sister were both NTP (she entp and me intp) and we often enough disagreed with each other, but never had any drama over it, I think cause our disagreements were on logic stuff but the vibe was great and we were laughing half of hte time about ' serious topics', cause for us it was nothing personal. I think it's the Ne +Fe that kept the mood good. We never got "personal", as in purposely hurtful with each other, , but sometimes had a somewhat more heated argument, we always knew where we stood with each other and knew everything about each others strengths, weaknesses, challenges and just about anything. Now I watch my Fe dom gf and her friends and it's the opposite. They're mostly feelers. Everyone agrees on stuff right then and there, but I'm pretty sure they come home, talked to their partner about their meetup and gave their actual opinion. It's such a double edged sword. Sometimes I ask what her brother thinks about things and since the have such a 'friendly' relationship, there is no brutal honesty and she would have to guess what he thinks about things and she does not tell him what she really thinks. So no drama, but no real honest info over. To me that bond seems superficial, since it's so polite I think thinkers and men in general (which more often tend to be thinkers) tend to know each others opinions and amuch more ok with a bit of discussion so much more than women (which ten to be feelers) avoid it at all costs and if anything have a cold war rather than an open one. Also, if you pick a partner that doesnt mind your style then its not an issue with each other too. My likes about me that I'm opinioned an disagreeable and i liek her more agreeable, how old fashioned that may sound (i'm not old fashioned in most ways) but being opposite just makes things easier, just as a very talkative and a quiet ones who likes to listen are perfect for eachother too. Dave once said that 50% of males and females are thinkers/feelers, which seems to conflict with common sense observation even if you know maybe 10 or more couples. However, when it was about ISTP data (dominant thinkers) he said some stuff about male ISTPS and said he didn't knew that about women cause they didn't type that much female istps. These statements seem odd to me , as if there were equal numbers of ISTP men and women, then why do you not have data on them or do they magically not enjoy OPS but male ISTPs too? Even the number 50% seems to politically correct to be true...I mean..50% When is something ever really 50%?

      That is an interesting point. I definitely see feelers who argue as well - probably because it is more of a human trait than specifically type related. That said, thinkers are more inclined to disagree or argue in a savior state, to a point that they don't even realise they are doing it. When they are in a savior state, their vibe will be calm, but when they are arguing from a triggered state, then their vibe will clearly be off. You can see this often from Jordan Peterson, who will sometimes cry while still arguing through his Ti. Feelers, in comparison, will more likely argue from a triggered state and will disagree using the feeling function (either Fe or Fi). We saw this with Harrison Ford who is lead Fi and often disagreed with interviewers in a savior state. I think overall in terms of OP, the level of agreeableness might have something to do with: Savior De, F De, savior friends. There are many F Te women who are extremely agreeable to the point that they struggle with being taken advantage of. Felix also did a video analyzing the data the community had at the time on officially typed people. This was obviously only a small sample of people, but the overall split for thinker men vs women was 50/50. Savior Ti was the most common savior decider function for men, and savior Te the most common decider function for women

      @@practicalpersonality I think OPS Often types thinkers and feelers incorrectly, which results in incorrect numbers. *Could you honestly say you would actually type* *The Dazey INTP on youtube as an INTP* ? I'm curious if I will get an answer on this, as I know it's difficult to get a real answer on such things as no one in the OPS community dares to disagree with Dave and Shan and acts like they are some sort of gods that just are somehow magically always right about everything. However, it's well established everywhere outside of OPS that women are more feelers, nurturing etc than men on average. In all other systems, in " normal" scientific psychology. At least in normal psychology untill about 2017 when the woke was culture introduced ideas incoherent with reality. Also, let's say even purely hypothetically OPS would have correctly has typed women people as Te, it's still the question if that is because the type of people OPS attract are specific types. They have such a distinct presentation style that I am sure that not everyone likes to listen to (with all the swearing and such). It's a very Te presentation style, which could attract more Te types than feeler typesor at least specific types because too that like all their swearing and such behavior is certainly not a type of presentation style that a general audience likes. It's more a niche type of presentation style. Thirdly, there seems already such a culture that somehow OPS does not attract people that are remotely critical of their system, which likely makes the pool of people that will follow OPS much more obedient and submissive in nature than the average person, which again would skew the numbers. People in the OPS community I've spoken to do dare to openly critique it because they're afraid of the community gets mad at them. Even Binyamin said in one video he doubted if animals were even a thing, yet in the next video he acts like they're totally real and acts like he never said that. I have the impression that a lot of of people in the OPS community want a system that tells them what to think, so they do not have to think themselves. At least, that is objectively the type of sytem it is. You really do not have to think much yourself as everything gets told to you. You just have to follow the leader and do exactly as they do. It's often High Te types that like mentors and such and OPS is sort of offering that. They tell you what to do, there is a clear hierarchy where the OPS " bosses" is higher in a sort of ranking than the followers. It's very clear at least there is is no level of equality there.

    Awww, but arguing can be fun! To paraphrase [whoever actually said it], arguing with a masculine thinker is like wrestling with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig enjoys it.

    Late comment but thanks guys - great class. Yeah, the Play + #4 energy really did a great job at hiding the douche-y Ti head when I was going over his clips. But he definitely felt familiar underneath it all. Btw lol, what is it about FF-TiSe that clicks so well with FM-TeNe? We've got Tim and Conan here, you guys, Keanu and Sandra... I've run out of examples but I'm sure there's a pattern.

      It's because the FF ISTPs are so darn cute 😍 lol but I do think there is some kind of fascination with having opposite temperaments. I know of a few other Te/Ne's and Ne/Te's who are married to ISTPs so there does seem to be a pattern there 😊

      @@practicalpersonality Hahaha, but yeah, you're right lol - lotta ENFP/ISTP combos in this community too. Using myself as a reference (1 tick off Felix), most of my favourite people are these lead Play Delta variants too, but I can't pick out why... Makes sense though. There's got to be something when you're extroverted functions are gathering the other person's introverted functions, and vice versa,

      True. We generally focus on highlighting the parts we think are most important and most interesting. FF and blast last seemed fairly obvious in Tim’s case.
