Early times bib truly is amazing. I do home blending and put a char 3 oak stave in it. Let is age for 2 full weeks. Basically a 15 year version for 30ish total. Makes it even more special .

Not at all surprised about McKenna. In the past I thought it was but it seems it's been to inconsistent so I quit buying it. Do you feel the same way?

You can't beat the "kickin chicken"! I don't know where you shop. I can get it here in Kentucky at any liquor store for around $120. The 5year old Turkey is $23. It's better than that Knob Creek too!

Wild turkey is underrated. I love the stuff. Too many alcohol snobs think expensive = better. Definitely not true.

Curtis --- I enjoy your review and I agree with your assessment of the Green River. It is excellent! The regular lower proof bourbon from Green River is fantastic as well and does not have the black licorice note that you did not seem to like. Cheers!

I just avoid Blanton's altogether. I have one regular single barrel with a special date on it that I managed to find. Beyond that, I don't care. Now I was able to try the original, gold and SFTB from a friend. Factor in single barrel variance. The gold was favored amongst the group. But price and value on the gold? Just not worth it.

The fan boys are fading out. BT products are more available

Yeah, I think there is a general consensus that Eagle Rare is good, but the availability is the only thing that make people covet it. I Have a regular bottle and a store pick of it and they are fine. I think the Russels 10 is better plus it's always available. I'd love to try it at a higher proof, but that's just my preference.

100% this was not a blind pour as much as it was an ad for Russels 10yr LOL.

These are the two I have on my shelf right now. Crazy synchronicity.

I know it's area-dependent, but Eagle Rare in Southern California is pretty easy to come by, at or right around MSRP. Places that have a slight markup around $50 see it sit for a little while, sometimes weeks. I've passed them up many more times than I purchased one. If I see it for 40 or under, I'll probably grab it. All that is to say, it's not as... well... rare to find these days.

I firmly believe that if Eagle Rare was more widely available such as RR10 or KC9, it would sit on the shelves endlessly. It's not bad by any means but it doesn't deserve the hype that it gets. Who am I to talk though because I have 4 bottles bunkered purely because it's hard to get.

Ohio checking in, Blantons $75 (after a recent price hike from $55 😮‍💨), Gold $128 (after a recent price hike from $110 😮‍💨) does that change your opinion at all? We get Blantons every 3 weeks or so, Blantons Gold and SFTB drop on lotteries about twice a year (huge lotteries) and shock drops, for example we just had a HUGE shock drop of 150 bottles per store of Blantons Gold, SFTB and Elmer T Lee. So it's not super available like Blantons or Weller A107 that drop every few weeks on regular allocated drops, but there's plenty floating around secondary (you can buy or trade for) and we'll see another Summer lottery in August with (probably) more Blantons Gold, SFTB, Weller 12 and Stagg? (I say that because last year's summer lottery was Blantons Gold, SFTB, and a few other BT products, we also just had a single barrel OHLQ Buffalo trace event where there were hundreds of Stagg OHLQ picks, EHT SiB, Weller A107, Weller FP and a few other BT products in May!)

Gold is a million times better imo. SFTB is better than regular but not worth the huge msrp

Blantons showing up in mid michigan lately, $149 but I have seen it as low as $99 . Never had it though.

I think blantons is very overrated. It's good juice. But not worth chasing. It's what the non bourbon drinkers drink. That's their allocated stuff. Now.. gold is better to me. But... SFTB is really good. Should be antique collection imo.

K.LUKE Whiskey Company owner and blender Jonathan Maisano made his first single barrel trip to Kentucky in the summer of 2014. Since then, he has tasted over 1,600 barrels and selected more than 400 to be deemed as Maisano Hand Select Single Barrels for retail. Jonathan is also a first level certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers. He uses this extensive sensory training when evaluating aroma and flavor profiles in whiskey barrels as there are many similar traits in both wine and whiskey when searching for nuances. K.LUKE Whiskey Company small batch blends are created by sourcing from several different distilleries in Kentucky and Indiana with different mash bills up to 36% rye and a variety of ages. This allows the focus to be on building multilayered and exciting blends instead of the individual components used to create each blend. Jonathan creates several blends based off his notes and ratings of their barrel inventory, then all blends are run through several rounds of blind tastings with blends being adjusted one barrel at a time by taste (Jonathan and Jennifer Maisano do all the blind tastings) until a favorite is decided for bottling.
