Great video my friend thank you for sharing your knowledge
Love it
I know this is an old video, I hope you are still checking comments. What about 7018 5/32 stick? The label recommends 130-170 amps if I’m not mistaken. Would that be accurate?
I really learned a lot from this video! I’m a new hobby welder having problems with penetration and weld profile and this really helped! Thank you!!
Why didn’t the algorithm recommend this to me before, so much time wasted, so much frustration…
Thanks. For sharing very informative
That looks like shit
Very impressive gap welding!
Thanks very informatif.
That was the most informative and well articulated video on MIG parameters that I’ve ever seen. Bravo to the presenter! He knows how to properly convey the subject matter.
Glad it was helpful!
David thank you for posting this video, haven't used a mig welder in almost 40 years and have recently got myself one that is synergic. I only use flux core wire and I could not get my head around it at all, but after watching your video I have now finally got the hang of it, your explanation on wire speed/voltage is brilliant and has helped me out big time, again thank you.
The clear demonstration of how the voltage and feed speed affect the quality of the weld on thin material was super helpful. Great video
Great video!!! Still new, still trying, I love it but I need to improve!!! This will help!!
You got this!
Thanks bro I worked for a company for 6 years we ran miller 500 now I'm using a miller 350 so it's like Ive gotta learn how to use there 17.5 with 230 set up instead of 50/550
Any thoughts on sort of rusty metal to new metal. Say , floor metal on a car.
Rust should always be removed if possible. Rust is a very poor conductor of electricity and will prevent you from achieving a strong weld.
Thanks. The arc length presumably is directly related to the voltage, so is there a base reading of voltage that you can see?
Yes. The machine will produce an average voltage reading so you can build a WPS around that average. The D1.1 includes language addressing waveforms and best practices for using average amps and average voltage for your WPS.
David, I came upon your video again after about 9 months and when watching it a real lightbulb moment occurred! When you were demonstrating increasing stickout and reducing amperage because of increased resistance due to increase in wire length and compensatory increase in voltage things started to click for me in understanding the concept. For some reason I kept thinking that the electron flow was from the gun which made things difficult to wrap my head around. Your explanation was so helpful. Many thanks!
I watched 20 videos trying to figure out why I sometime create small burn out when welding support bar to steel piece. I was trained to just do small circle but never was told the basics of what you mentioned! Feel more confident returning to work Monday and not be afraid of burning through. Also now I know what push Vs drag means. They explain to me push but didn’t show. 😂. This video help.
Where can i learn to highlight and label my Welding code book?
At the AWS CWI seminar :)
Nice spool gun you got there. I've never used one, but I am looking forward to try. Since, I already have the welder (HOBART 210), I want to go for it. Thank you for sharing. Oh, you got some nice welds there. Take care my friend.👍👍
Reminder, NR stands for Not Reverse polarity or straight in other words .
That is news to us! Makes sense though. Thanks for sharing.
@@GeneralAir thats what the Lincoln rep told me .
This is not thin metal show us on real sheet metal
Oh goodie. Another music video. Turn the crap off or at least way down. Do you want to show people welding or music? Choose.
@General Air Service and Supply How light and comfortable is the Black Stallion DuraLite Pigskin Welding Jacket you're wearing?
There is nothing quality of a spoolgun. Its the lowest quality way to weld
Great video, especially the voltage explanation as most UA-camrs don’t understand their correlation. 👍
this is not thin , thin is tin can , 0.3mm or 0.010 inch , try that with cheap machines which has one knob for both amp and wire speed so these setting are useless to most of us useing budget stuff
To weld thin metal with flux core i just tack weld all the way like if i was doing a strait bead but tacked all the way. The reason for attacking instead of doing a straight beat is to allow the metal to cool down the only reason why welders blow through thin sheet metal is because too much heat has penetrated the metal. If you stick weld or flux core it is best to simply tack all the way to the bottom to allow for adequate penetration ✅
@@andycuellar8125what happens if it always burns through?
so basically just straight line weld is best...ok then...
Have yet to see a single arcone helmet with a video showing the lense in action. Who would blow 500 canadian on a helmet they dont get to see. Im just going to roll the dice and throw my money away? Arcone needs to work on their advertising. Every video is just some welder welsing and flipping up the hood saying this helmet is really great. The end.
Most welding distributors have these products on the shelf so an individual can "see", touch, and demo
Another thing to mention is the runout at the bottom and tops of each pass. The cap must not be below parent material in these areas at all. Always wire wheel or wire cup between passes. Any of these being missed is an automatic fail if an arc is struck on Un cleaned welds. The testing facilitator should be watching for these habits, and briefing on them prior to testing. Great video. Very well made.
Thanks
Great video, thanks!
This was really helpful - I'm getting more and more comfortable with mig through practice, and I had noticed that I needed to change WFS and Voltage to get good welds... but didn't know the why behind it. This was really clear and will help me day to day. Thanks so much, great job.
Hello @alatron, we are glad to hear this was helpful!
Why is there zero info about the written exam??? I passed the 3g 4g weld test but I can’t find ANYthing on the written exam with open book/closed book.
There is no written exam for a certification test, it is a demonstration of physical welding ability.
@@GeneralAirthank god
Very informative video, thank you!
David I have recently got myself a mig welder but haven't used a mig in over 40 year's, so have been watching dozens of videos to try and refresh myself. But this video of yours has hit the nail on the head for me, your explanation was brilliant and perfectly explained, you have helped me out big time and for that I thank you.
This really showed me what I've been doing wrong on my sheet metal welding, thanks!
A very good explanation, your video was effective and I learned something usefull that will help me figure out the optimum settings for my recently acquired MIG welder, my old one was simpler, - but not yet too late to learn a bit more.🙄 Stay safe, regards Niels.
your bending of the weld test leaves a lot to be desired - you didnt bend the weld u turkey, you bent some distance from it. u turkey apart from the numbnuts bend test, really good video!
solid stuff, thanks alot, you have no idea how much you are helping the folks out there
The music needs to go.
True, but not easy to weld thin, auto-body panels. Suggestions?
We suggest using a smaller wire such as .025 and copper backing.
Thanks! this time I’ll keep my flatbed attached to the truck and not in pieces down the highway.
Gotta be a absolute r-tard to try welding anything that’s gonna be going on the highway without having a VERY good understanding of welding.
Turn down the background music ... distracting. Great video.
Hi what do you recoment for the beginner for a welding helmet and a brand please
We recommend the Viking series helmets. The 1740 (store.generalair.com/viking-1740-black-k3282-3/) is great for beginners as it a good helmet with a reasonable price point.
Great information!!!!
What was your voltage setting.....that matters too
In the video the voltage settings started at 15 volts and went up to 25 volts. Proper voltage always depends on wire diameter and wire feed speed.
So what was the metal material you had under what you were welding on. What kept it from welding to it?
This was on a steel table, the settings that we had for this weld would make it impossible to make it go through the piece and into the table.
