In the current series of pelvis ,we step wise
understand pelvis in detail, in this video we learn about Significance of Ischial spine and sacrospinous and Sacro tuberous ligament.
The sacrotuberous ligament originates from the :
Ilium between the posterior superior and posterior inferior iliac spines
Sacrum - transverse tubercles below the auricular surface
Coccyx- upper part
Insertion of Sacrotuberous ligament- medial aspect of ischial tuberosity where it's upper edge is prolonged forwards as the falciform process ( which forms a wall of the pudendal canal)
Sacrospinous ligament:
Origin- from side of Lower part of sacrum and upper part of coccyx
Lies on pelvic aspect of sacrotuberous ligament
Insertion:
Spine of ischium
It narrows towards spine of ischium
Sacrotuberous ligament is narrow in centre and broad at the ends
It is supposed to be phyllogenetically degenerated tendon of long head of biceps femoris
SS ligament has the coccygeus muscle on it's ventral aspect in some individuals as it is the phyllogenetically degenerated posterior surface of the muscle 😀
