Awesome Hunt! bummer about the big buck but atleast it was a clean miss!
Yessir! Definitely glad it was a clean miss.
That thing is sweet. I just recently learned about Paul. He was a legend.
Yes he was!
I was so looking forward to getting Christmas behind us. I have been planning a late season bow hunt for over month now back at my go to hunting place. My lovely bride, got sick, has been for two weeks now, I am not going to give up on the hunt, but this has me motived to try and make this trip happen as soon as she is well enough for me to leave her at home alone. You sound sick yourself, with the coughing. Bless your heart brother, get well, the flu is going around bad here, I have been camping in my little mini camper for over two weeks now, Buster and I hahaha. Thanks for sharing and good luck while you're out there brother. dale
Thanks Brother! Hope your wife starts feeling better! I'm just now starting to feel better myself. Keep me in the loop if you make it out.
Those look good!
Thanks!
Congratulations on a beautiful buck and for doing it the right way. You didn't take the easy way with a compound or crossbow,
I shot a compound for a long time! I enjoy using my longbow much more now.
No apologies no regret, you pulled back the string your intension was set! You took a trophy with a traditional bow If someone does't like it, they know where to go
Yessir!
What kind of traditional bow would you recommend for a first time shooter who wants to hunt with it?
Check out my below videos. I have one specifically for this question. :) ua-cam.com/video/s2Bip88xz1c/v-deo.htmlsi=am76vd0Sz_JJWCiw
@ yeah I found it right after I posted the comment I appreciate it.
Congratulations brother!! Trad is the only way to go!!!
I sure love it
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Love those bright orange feathers!!! What brand are they? Most I’ve found aren’t that bright.
Those are TrueFlight feather fletchings. :)
Congratulations Great hunt Beautiful memory
Thanks 👍
Bonjour de Louisiane .
Yessir! Im a Baton Rouge native.
Great video sir. Curious what are u using on your bow that’s holding the arrow on the shelf while u hang it up?
Thank you! I use a little niteize gear tie wrapped around the shaft. When I'm getting ready to shoot I just bend it out of the way.
Awesome. I’ll have to purchase some. I just found your channel today. Been enjoying your videos. I switched last year to traditional. I played around with it for 10 years. I never could shoot consistently doing instinctive. Finally learned there was another way. Gap. That changed everything for me. Harvested 4 last year with my longbow. Toelke Whistler. Got 1 so far this year with my ‘59 Kodiak (New version) Deer movement has been slower where I’m hunting this year. Man I love huntin with a trad bow though. Nothing like it.
Glad you enjoy the videos. :) It sure is fun with stick and string! Hope your season ends well. Stay safe brother!
I so agree. Beautiful birds.
I just discovered silvertip bows. Man they have some absolutely beautiful examples of custom bows on the website. I shoot a compound instinctive with fingers, but I really want a Schafer Silvertip now.
They are definitely very nice bows! Amazing history as well.
What was your load info? Also what powder were you using in the pan? On high moisture days like that I’ll use 2F as it draws in much less moisture and really doesn’t slow down ignition time much. Oh and wake make and model is that gun? Thanks
Hunting the rut is awesome but frustrating! That’s what it’s all about!
Agreed!
great hunt and great video
Appreciate it
i wish saddles were a thing when i was young my mobile hunting was carrying 10# summit climber w back pack strapped to it
I bet it weighed more than that!
Nice setup brother. I draw about 30.5 inches can I shoot a 60inch traditional bow?
@thephoenicianarcher5267 I'd say 62” or longer would be more suitable for you. However, talk to local Bowyer and see what they recommend.
@@jessejohnson_tx oh yeah total load 30#
@@thephoenicianarcher5267 yes get lil finger pinch possibly
Great hunt!!
Thank you sir
Damn, I could follow that blood trail on a moving video.
Yep! I was shocked he was still alive.
@@jessejohnson_tx I'm sure!
“Wyd idiot” 😂😂😂
😂
dude your in em
Won the battle lost the war :)
ive yet to hear but i love that sound of deer in the leafs chasing
Its a wonderful sound!
Lots of activity brother. Wish we was there with you. Glad it’s a close drive for y’all and happy to see your dad out with you as well. Man. What a great hunting day. Thanks for sharing and keep up the fun videos brother. See you soon. Dale.
Appreciate buddy! My Dad is going to try to come out for deer camp next year. Look forward to seeing u soon hopefully.
Awesome hunt, man. Tons of action!
Yessir!
Are you going to move your stand a little closer to that main travel route
Do you shoot instinctive or gap or what? Also why do you choose 3 under over split finger? That being said…You have a great channel to learn traditional bow hunting….as someone new to it you are inspiring! I wish I had someone like you to teach me.
I started to shoot fingers again after many years I used to shoot two under one over.. well more recently I have started shooting three under and I also put a crawl in this allows me to be able to get line of sight with the arrow better. I think that's what you mean by gap right? But I'm sure he could explain things differently or has different reasons.
I shoot gap. 3 under to help reduce my gap. Find me on Instagram…Jesse_JohnsonTx. Lets chat and see if I can connect you with someone.
Exactly right. 3 under raises the arrow closer to your eye. Therefore, reducing your gap. Gap = the gap between the tip of your arrow and the bullseye.
Where was the entry and exit!! Just curious as to why he was able to survive as long as he did. Always learning. Thank u and always great videos from u
Appreciate you watching! The arrow passed through the liver and through the offside lung. He handled it very impressively! Tough animals. Thankful to recover him.
Amazing video. Amazing hunt
Thanks buddy
I’m a newbie so forgive me…what makes traditional bow hunting so hard? Because the deer have to get so close? How do you feel about ground hunting for deer, have you ever done it?
Hey! Glad to give my opinion. Traditional bow hunting typically requires animals to be 20 yards or closer, preferably under 15 yards. The bows are much slower and a lot less easier to maneuver around it tight quarters. Compounds are still plenty of a challenge! But I believe a traditional bow is a bit harder-just my opinion. Ground hunting is fun! I have taken many animals from the ground with a firearm and a couple with a compound, but I haven't tried too much with my traditional bow. :)
I really hate when that happens. But after 18 years of being strictly a flinchlock hunter it’s bound to happen. Great video.
Definitely will make your heart skip a beat! Gotta love it though.
Could not have said it better myself great job 😊
@@matthewmeckes1744 appreciate it
I agree Bow Hunting is addictive! Nice Video man, great work! Congrats!
Appreciate it!
Congratulations on a nice deer keep up the amazing work
Thank you sir
Good video and even better story!
Appreciate you
I could not agree more with giving a trad bow a try. I harvested my first deer with a recurve 2 weeks ago, it takes a lot of practice and discipline, but the reward is definitely worth it!!
100% agree! Good job!
Awesome video!!! What state is this?
Wow that helical on those fletchings beautiful.
Awesome hunt, surprised he lasted that long. Trad bow is truly addictive, don’t see me ever picking up a compound again. Congratulations!
100% agree!
100% agree!
whats the bow your using thx
In this video, an Acadian Classic Recurve. I typically shoot a Primaltech Longbow.
That was textbook must see video on how to properly handle a wounded deer that you think should have been done. Great job!
I had good advice given to me! I was glad to recover him.
Congrats! That was a blood trail every bowhunter dreams of . Where you end up hitting him? What broadheads you using ? How about your sharpener ? Thanks
Quartered away - mid body…through the liver and backside lung. Zwickey No Mercys. Sharpened with a hand file.
Congratulations. Traditional bowhunting is addictive.
Absolutely!
Very nicely done Jesse
@@terrybowling5973 thank you!
so glad you recovered that buck , truly honored the memory and legacy of the bow
@@donwaldroopoutdoors3665 Yessir!! Always appreciate your encouragement.
@ we gotta lift each other up, right
sylvester stalone doing E D add b4 a hunting video , interesting lol
What?!😂
@ yeah crazy as b4 it started
@jessejohnson_tx this exact thing happened to me this year for the first time ever went back to my stand hunted the rest of the day found him roughly about the same 50 yards from where I jumped him
Action packed hunt! Thanks for taking us with you!
Thank you sir!
Great video Jesse
Thank ya!
Good call on taking the nap, as well as teaching others to be patient. I think you did a great job on this hunt and the patients paid off. I have seen deer jump and run like that to never been found after a good bump. Thankfully it all worked out brother. That is really cool you got him with the bow your mentor gave you. That makes it even more priceless. Great hunt. Its. great public land buck. I so agree there trad bow is an awesome trophy. Good job on encouraging others to do the same. Excelltnt dinner, thanks for sharing, looking forward to meeting back up with you next year, Until then, good luck the rest of the season and let's meet up and do some kayak fishing. See you soon friend. Have a blessed week. Dale
Appreciate you!! as always, let’s stay in touch. Let’s not let a year go by without meeting up again. Love you, brother!
