Professor Robert Koons of UT Austin tells us about his new book (with Professor Dan Bonevac) on the Five Ways of Aquinas. Topics: why did Christian philosophers abandon proving God exists? Why did Christian philosophers like Swinburne and Plantinga abandon classical theism? Can we show from general revelation that Aristotle was wrong about the eternality of the world? Was Aquians wrong to say t...
Episcopalian Priest Stabbed in Florida

Here, I talk with my former youth pastor and lifelong mentor, Matt Marino, about his stabbing while doing church work. Does this prove that there is no God? Should Matt abandon his faith if God won't even protect him while doing ministry? Many have abandoned their faith for less. You'll be surprised at Matt's answer.

Charlie Kirk explains God the Father to Parker

Parker makes a number of colossal mistakes here. Most importantly, he confuses God and the creation. He believes he is showing Charlie Kirk that Charlie cannot define a man because God is a Father but not a man. However, it is Parker who ends up losing meaning. Check out how he loses his words.

Need to read St Dumitru Staniloae on time and eternity to fully understand time.
I spoke to Dr. Koons for about 10 minutes some 15 years ago at a Lutheran church in Austin TX where he gave me his syllabus for his Christian Philosophy class. The books on his syllabus, including one of Francis Schaeffer's, were instrumental in my decision to write on Christian philosophy and go into ministry.
To know Christ is preparation for death, to know Him better is better preparation for death (Ps. 23:4 and 6)
If God is independent why would He need or want another entity beside Him from eternity?
The Westminster Confession teaches that things drawn from Scripture by good and necessary consequence are part of the faith. “The whole counsel of God concerning all things necessary for his own glory, man’s salvation, faith and life, is either expressly set down in Scripture, or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture” (WCF 1.6).
Duns Scots was Scots, not English, from Duns in Berwickshire.
Great discussion!! Really enjoyed it!
How awful, but how wonderful that God's grace can transform such things.
There’s no left in the USA
What nonsense. It's the Republican Party who have become a party of conspiracy theorists.
Letter to John Taylor in 1816 Jefferson wrote that banking institutions are "more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies". He also called the banking system corrupt, a "blot on the constitution," and destructive of wealth. Jefferson also said that long-term government debt was "swindling" future generations. Do you believe Jefferson was a conspiracy theorist ? Or the crime of racketeering used against the mafia aka a conspiracy to commit crimes against individuals is a dangerous conspiracy theory ? Do you deny that groups conspire to do harm for profit ?
You really shouldn't platform these CREC cultists.
USA has a tiny "Left". The Democratic Party is not a socialist or social-demo. party.
I don’t believe that to be true. In fact a substantial portion of the Democratic Party are in fact socialist or social democrats.
Look above the sun, Mike
I agree with him.
The Mueller Report, part 2, proves Russian collusion. Was Robert Mueller a "leftist"?
To my mind he suffers from the same self delusional hypocrisy many wealthy western Christians and certainly most American Christians do. They advocate for capitalism before democracy, before society, before nation, and absolutely before God. Jesus threw the money men out of the Temples, and God gave warning not to worship the golden Calf. Most centrist liberals and right wingers have been only too happy to build the money men new temples on wallstreet, and all jointly worship the golden calf bolted to its floor. "There is blood in these lands, and they are bleeding. The corporations have cut the veins of our mother earth" - Pope Francis. 2019. Dear Christians, you can be a Christian, or an advocate of capitalism, not both without cherry picking your way through the good book to avoid the parts inconvenient to your errant beliefs, making you a heretic.
This is completely idiotic rubbish from the tin foil hat club.
Didnt ask, don't care
The "cock-up" approach to history should probably be much more often invoked than the "conspiracy" approach.
This is the least of Jordan’s issues to my telling. The “glaringly obvious” (as he might say) is that he absolutely refuses to be tied down to any idea regardless of its directness or simplicity. If you won’t state any real claims or even agree on a starting set of theses, premises, or truths then the conversation is senseless and tedious. Jordan would rather pretend there is an esoteric grey-area middle-ground nuance to everything then filibuster for minutes on end whilst segueing between loosely correlated ideas one after another without taking a breath for his counterparts or debate opponents to call him out. It’s just a very rude style for a podcast host…he should just become a politician.
Also, I will side with Dawkins and Alex O’Connor here that it is rather annoying how he pretends to believe in God.
Excellent analysis, thank you

In 2025, we still have guys who declare themselves doctors of theology to use the argument of authority that would legitimize them. No, biblical studies are not a serious profession unless it is to do historical and archaeological research. No more serious than a doctorate in Harry Potter-esque studies. Saying that Dawkins is a naive realist, because he would rely on his senses to describe facts is yet another religious hoax, which claims that science is subjective when it is the most accomplished model of observation of reality. The guy who believes that a man was born of a virgin and resurrected, thinks that the scientist is naive. We call it an ideological reversal. The Bible is a library of myths metaphorically retracing the history of the Jewish people until the beginning of the modern era, just as the Odyssey is a story of Greek myth. Odysseus did not exist like almost all biblical characters and events. The only factual elements we have are a stele naming King David and extra-Palestinian testimonies that confirm the existence of a Jesus of Nazareth. Absolutely nothing attests to alleged miracles. Moreover, archaeological research proves the opposite. Jesus was not born under Herod and Quirinus simply because 10 years separate these two men... the NT speaks of the resurrection of all the dead of Jerusalem at the death of Jesus and strangely, no one talks about it except Christians and we can continue like that all day long. It would be time to stop invading public space with your myths and to admit that it is at most bad Fantasy.
Dawkins doesn’t naively believe that our senses give us facts. That’s not even a straw man; it’s just a lie. He would be the first to tell you that our senses are fallible and that our brains constantly deceive us. For instance, billions of people feel the need to believe in the existence of invisible beings with magical powers.

Also, can two people 'separate' humanity from God, without knowing what they are doing... or why... or how? In Eden. And without first knowing good from bad - seemingly. As that is very much at the root of a whole lot of this. Or of any framed 'rebellion of humanity', as many have habitually well, posited it. Also, yes, there are many Biblical myths. When they get political, they can get a bit alarming though. Like Manifest Destiny can be. Or racial origin stories. You risk very much... playing with fire, in those. Or with Curses of Ham, maybe (and Canaan)
The message isn't that clear. It's why the jews reject the entire new testament. The old testament gives a different depiction of God then the new testament. The New Testament is born out a hellenized wotld and that's definitely clear. And the old testament is a collection of Mesopotamian stories, of which other cultures used these stories without any idea of this 'clear message '
Maybe it's you guys that just don't understand? Origen felt the same about the old testament in it being allegorical. There's a few different early church fathers that all had similar views. The writers of the dead sea scrolls were looking at scriptures similar and there's overwhelming evidence Christianity started growing or was related to those at Qumran . That's not to say Origen or the Qumran people were materialist, but their view of scriptures not being literal was all very similar There's absolutely no way for them to work literally nor is there any evidence that they are literal When it comes to Jesus, yes he doesn't seek to understand but none of you seem to. It's clear what the gospel of christ was. Love god love your neighbor the same and share everything you have with the poor in a communal lifestyle without hierarchy. JP tries to squeeze hierarchy in when Jesus was trying to level out hierarchy. That was what Jesus taught and he taught it very clear.
It's very difficult to pinpoint exactly what the scriptures actually mean or refer to, especially when they're still considered as "holy" and "divinely inspired". Probably in a 1000 years when the religion has died out we can look back at these scriptures with an objective outlook.
Jordan??…that you?
I'm guessing that he doesn't.
Kirk and Anderson tag team against stupid people would be hilarious 🤣
Thank you for this.
