@@plan.b thank you for the answer! Tokonole can't be found in my country, unfortunately. Are there any alternatives? I'm using beeswax for burnishing the edges, but I'm not sure it will work for smoothing out the fleshy side of leather
@@Joao-or2kz If you use beeswax, I think cracks will form if you fold it after it dries. I've been using this product since I first started because it was easy to obtain. I couldn't think of any other alternative. sorry. I don't think I can help you with that part. I searched for leather burnishing gum. How do you ou ensure the end of the stitch doesn’t come out when cutting it close? In sewing you’d do a double backstitch
Watch from 7:19. In the last stitch, apply glue to the thread and then pull the thread. This attaches the thread to the leather from the inside. When cutting the thread, pull the thread and cut it as short as possible. Next, put some glue on the end of the awl and push the thread inside along with the glue. This method is also used by Hermes. One thing to be careful of is that threads made of nylon or polyester cannot be fixed with glue. So we melt it and finish it. You should use thread made of cotton or hemp, or a mixed thread. I use three materials when finishing leather cross sections. Thank you for watching. 1. Tokonole 2. Water-based Glue + water (1:1 ratio) - This mixture helps the last applied chemical to adhere well to the leather. 3. Lastly, there is “wax coat”. - This chemical provides a transparent coating. It is similar to finishing with wax. I use it for a natural finish. I hope this explanation helps. 1.
