As composers, sometimes you need to write music just for you. Without restrictions, boundaries, or genre limitations. For this piece, I just let the music take me where it wanted to go. About David Kudell: David Kudell is an LA-based music composer for film & TV. His credits include "Paging Mr. Darcy" for Hallmark. As part of composer Anne-Kathrin Dern's team, he has contributed additional musi...

I had the pleasure (and challenge) of scoring the trailer for Abacus by Orchestral Tools. Since I also did the video edit of the trailer, I was able to build it so I could alternate between soundbites of Richard Harvey and melodic moments that show off the instrument categories. The goal was to utilize the nearly 100 instruments and their various articulations, and also demonstrate a few of the...

I had the pleasure of writing a new theme called "The Bat" as an official demo for Orchestral Tools' new sample library Metropolis Ark Ø. This library has exquisite sounding "tutti" notes and chords played by the entire orchestra, which enables you to sketch ideas quickly. I was able to use it to write the entire track - everything you hear is from Metropolis Ark Zero with the exception of the ...

The show Severance is an instant classic, and one of the reasons is Theodore Shapiro's amazing score. As a composer myself, I was instantly drawn to the haunting beauty of the piano, the descending chords, and the many variations on the theme that Theodore uses in the show. While the theme is absolutely perfect for the show as is, I thought it would be fun to see what it would sound like as an ...

Thank you .I have seen a few videos in that many of the same plugin is inserted to a project to test the mac .How far it can go .I am suspicious of this as a test .I would rather see a variety of demanding plugins . On my slightly dated windows machine I loaded session percussion .A recent Kontakt instrument .The CPU was 40 to 50 percent .Other plugins .Mysteria and Vocalsynth 2 comes to mind .

Sounds great! Could definitely get serial killer on the loose vibes, police tracking to track him down. Descriptions were some interesting insight into what you were thinking for each cue. Also, the theme has hints of Lacrimosa by Mozart, idk if that was a possible inspiration?

Nucleus by Audio Imperia has a built-in delay-compensation feature, and I have NO idea why it isn't in every single orchestral library UI. It's literally the most useful function of any sampled tool I've used.

Brilliant presentation! If you have a free moment to reply, I'd be so grateful. I'm curious what configuration you might recommend for a Logic Production system in 2024. I don't have a whole lot of plugins, and I would guess that I would never have more than 50 tracks in a project. (Most likely less than 25 for each project). I am currently using a 2015 iMac, i5 with 16gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. Plugins can take 20+ seconds to load at times, and I know it's time for a new system. Thank you, and Godspeed!

Great channel and very informative video! I have a question though, how do you get the CC data (expression, dynamics, breath and so on) to not be affected by the negative track delay? That's the most annoying thing with it for me. Am I missing something obvious?

David - again amazing video! Been rewatching it lately since I'm optimising the main template again - VEP and local hybrid. Quick question; did you do any further testing regarding Spitfires Player in VEP vs disabled tracks? Kontakt seems to be better to keep on the VEP server and Sine locally. But just wanted to ask how you treat Spitfire Player too since we share the same libraries. Also local drive vs external. Thanks! :)

05:00 the click volume on a fader... that is BRILLIANT. I use a 4-fader MusioTech but I only need 3 faders for Exp/Mod/Vib, and the 4th has been unused. Not any more! That is such a perfect solution to quickly change it. I need to figure that out in Cubase immediately. I figure Control Rool comes into play, I'llsee how to make it work. Awesome idea!

You can set it up in Studio/Studio Setup. You have to add a Generic Remote and then you can click the learn box and move a fader. Under Device, choose Metronome, Under Value choose clickLevel.

Quantization of time is anti-musical. If you've EVER looked at a steady rock beat as played by humans at the actual "BPMs" you would _know this_ I wouldn't give a scintilla of a hint of an interest in someone telling me "why I should". It doesn't make the music 'too perfect', that's a foolish definition of perfect, since no human does it and in no music with that expectation (ie., intentionally robotic techno gets a pass) is it even a little bit desirable. If your expectation is accuracy rather than flubbing the time frequently and in your hurry need to do it live, learn to function better on the keyboard. A synth-action keyboard doesn't take a lot of muscle. A tuba is going to speak much_more_slowly than a smaller wind instrument and much more slowly still than a percussionist so it's reality that if we're going to act as orchestrator is a must-know. I adjust accordingly, situationally and intelligently. Faffing about with numbers isn't it.

1700 Tracks? Why? 🤷‍♂️ I do not understand?! 🤷‍♂️ There are a max of 80 Instruments in an Orchestra. Okay, maybe 3 voices for “Long” “short” “pizzicato” … So max 240! If you work with some ensembles and some solo voices you can get away with much less! Adding the possibility to deactivate unused voices in Kontakt … I just do not believe someone will need 196 gb Ram or 1700 Voices ! Not even to recreate Wagner or Puccini! Okay , if you just been lazy and adding voices without a care… Maybe?
