Really appreciated the bit about enjoying the journey. I remember someone, probably on VI-C, saying something along the lines that a key milestone in every composer's life is finally coming to grips with the fact that you're never going to be John Williams. And that, while that may be disappointing, there is also freedom and peace of mind in no longer holding yourself to such astronomical standards.
What is the point of wanting to be John Williams and why do you or anybody else need to feel disappointed for not being JW... A very wise man once wrote: "Be yourself, everybody else is already taken". Nothing wrong at all in aiming high in ones skills/career... Enjoying the journey of life in all its forms, appreciation, love and respect is what I strive for in my life. Kind regards and blessings, MaxT

Anne-Katrhin; as to taking a break for a day (or more): this is very good to do I guess. You're like in a race running to the future movie to work on in competition with other composers. Reminds me of sportsmen: in order not to plateau or tumble back physically, they must take breaks/resting days. During this break their condition improves! Consider yourself to be a professional sporter;);) Do something completely else for a day or two maybe. Visit some nice natural surrounding or some friends or whatever. It is easier to race into your future but it's way harder to take short breaks. When you're 35 years ahead, you wonder why you never took a break, visited so little friends, forgot to enjoy yourself. Don't regret things later. Live your life a little more like today is your last day; it might influence your perspective?! Wish you the best.
To the comment about hitting 40 and have achieved everything. I wouldn't feed off the sadness of having nothing left to accomplish, you may have everything in 10 years, you may not... But you will always have creative freedom and the ability to make wonders which will echo into eternity. If you are a religious person, make music for the gods, because you can't take the money with you when you leave this mortal world. I also agree with your other comment, how somebody else takes credit for your work, this is wrong, it should be recognised as fraud... I had somebody try that trick on me before. The real problem I have been reading about is that people are programming machines with AI to create music, once this has come into motion... You'll get petty deals as they know they'll have the AI to fall back onto... The big contracts will only be given to famous composers as their name can influence the public to raise the popularity of the film/show etc. Also to you David, a lot of criticism to your work could be driven by jealousy, unless it's constructive criticism to help you then that's different. I've not done any music courses, I have self taught everything I know, why pay $45k to have somebody teach you when you can join a free community, just like the one Rob has setup on the Spitfire Audio Forums, everybody has their say of what could of been improved etc, it may not be practical to what you want to learn, but it does enable you to see what other people hear in your music in a different prospective. My dream is that one day, I might make something half decent to get recognised, as it would be a dream come true to compose to a movie. I have 2 children under the age of 3 and I work full time in the steel industry for a company called Parkside Steel, I get covered in oil, I have cuts and bruises I stink after a days work... I need the money to keep a roof over our heads, I give them everything in life absolutely everything. But I feel like my talent is wasted doing a job most people could do, I ain't in the position where I can quit and chase my dreams like you, I have to carry on in the darkness until that day comes when somebody recognizes my value. If anybody has read what I said, thank you for your time, and also keep up the fantastic work!
