Yes, one representative explained that you can get very similar material properties if a heat treatment is performed after printing. This is to remove the high stresses that build up during the welding process. If you can make it with traditional techniques then 3D isn't that appealing. The latter gives you the flexibility of creating intricate shapes that couldn't be manufactured otherwise.

Yes, if you look closely near the end of the video the winch disengages from the glider and you can see something falling from the sky ;)

@@My_Dose_4U The cable falls, sure. The pilot pulls the release lever and the cable disengages from the glider. My question was about the winch continuing to pull after the release, or does it continue to pull until the cable has been fully retracted.

@deezynar - I had little knowledge of the winching process but I assume on release the winch would stop reeling in so that the recovery vehicle had less distance to travel to tow it back for the next glider launch. Only when activities had ceased for the day would the winch cable be fully retracted.
