Why you give up when the novelty wears off | The "Progress Plateau"
Переглядів 1432 місяці тому
No, you're not giving up because you're a failure or "lazy", whatever that means...(as if any human would want to do absolutely nothing, all the time, if they had the opportunity and confidence to live the life they actually wanted). We often give up because we are not well prepared for inevitable challenges such as the Progress Plateau. These are some practical tips that have helped me sustain...

As I was making the list of scoops that will prevent your bucket from overflowing, I realised that I needed to insert the main characteristics of each scoop, which will help you choose the best one for the situation you are in. Therefore, I created a table that you can access in one of the links below: Google Doc: docs.google.com/document/d/18ii4Y1bOACOoGLS4jK_7NtZMa_b5P0yMxTQPtzB800E/edit?usp=...

Made this video because despite our best of intentions, there are many times where we end up making things harder for ourselves without even realising it. Tried blending science with some practical tips that I've learned through personal experience and mistakes. Hope this brings a bit of clarity and help. x much love AJ LINKS Instagram: alicejaestudio Email: blueslily619@gmail.co...

Sometimes its much easier for people to talk about potential and how you could build it up, because actually focusing on the status quo and having a constructive reflection, is a conversation very little people are ready to have! (I am people, really have to work on that tbh) Ps. Amazing and very inspirational video, I just discovered you right now. Keep up the good work! 🙌
@@lieutenant007 Thank you! I am also “people”… It’s so hard to not replace the actual work with more planning, tutorials, theorising etc. :’) thankfully, every time we bring awareness to it, we make these avoidance methods weaker and weaker 💪
Sounds like the illuminated me speaking. It's not been a month since I knew this Indian Dr and found out my problem... Biggest problem though I'm almost 36.
We're all students til the end, no such thing as too late. 36 is young, you got this
27:35 I really enjoy these kind of videos, the visuals don't matter that much, as i prefer to listen to the monolog rather than truthly watching the video. The sound is good and that's what matters for me. I really loved the topic. Thanks for the video!
So true i also just listen to many videos (vs watching them). thank you for the kind words, very encouraging <33
Ahh I watched the whole video and this is extremely (and scarily) relatable. Especially the part where you just lay down and stare at the ceiling 😭 I take science based subjects partly because of I was blinded by my ego and the toxicity of "potential". This video just basically sums up what I'm currently facing. And honestly another thing that I think contributes a lot to this is those 20 minutes motivational videos (or even from real people). I'm not saying they're inherently bad or not motivational just because I don't get it, it's just that they picture mediocrity as something bad. But that's the problem, you have to BE mediocre before you become the best. I used to watch them and I remember this quote, "Be allergic to being mediocre." And so I just did nothing.. Highlights : 11:00 , 18:12 , 28:21, 35:19 Also I just wanted to say that I discovered your video through yt reccomendations and your commentary is structured really well. Don't pressure yourself too much on the set up or editing bcs personally, after awhile I just listen to the videos like a podcast instead of watching it.
Thank you for this, means a lot. Can relate to picking certain subjects for ego and potential... And spot on about the motivational content. It just monetises the manipulation of short-lived, strong emotions, but fails to teach a single thing about the actual reality of long-term goal achievement (and maintenance!), as well as the radical self-acceptance needed throughout this chaotic journey
OMG same I've always wanted to make an animation channel but felt like my art skills weren't good enough compared to other channels....I love art i shouldn't abandon that passion just because I'm scared
exactly, just pretend to be a kid at first, make super simple animations, laugh at the silly mistakes, have fun with it and take pride in witnessing the grind and the slow but steady progress <3
Keep making videos! What you’re talking about reminds me a lot of stoicism and Buddhism. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and the 4 noble truths are all about keeping your expectations in check and managing your happiness based on your expectations!
Appreciate it! Hard to believe how true these philosophies still ring many centuries later
ohh i thought this was pmd as in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon
you have no idea how helpful this video has been. i found this at exactly the right time, as my pmdd has been affecting my relationships and causing me to lose people close to me. this has been a huge encouragement to me that this will get better and i will get through this.
appreciate you for sharing this. currently in pmdd week and definitely feeling it, but these tips have helped keep things "functional"... it is very hard on relationships, think the best way is communication and not socialising too too much. all the best <3 (p.s. love your karma profile pic)
This was a great video! Many of the points resonated with me. Thanks so much for talking about this!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it☺
I watched the video and then decided to rewatch it while sitting and not walking. Would you say I cheated and watched another self help video? 😅😊 I clicked to watch it cause I deep down was having the same sense of realization albeit in a different experience. Great content, message and well put together. I think you have gone to school for a masters or something.
That's a great question. 😂 Given that it's the same info, it should be fine ;) Thanks a lot for the feedback, much appreciated!
This video is great and just what I needed! Thank you. I hope you have a lovely day!
@@danceonthemoonn thank you for these sweet words, I appreciate it. Have a lovely day as well x
The algorithm brought me here because my "watch later" list is full of self help and self improvement content 😅 I feel called out... But you're right
@@aingkieu hahahahaha my “watch later” is the same!😭 and the algorithm always calls you out when you need it the most…
Great video! For many years I consumed so much self help content, and even though it helped me a lot at certain times, deep down it came from beliefs that there is something wrong with me, that I'm not good enough, and self hate. First when I started to practice self acceptance, authenticity and changed these beliefs, I've started to feel better. When I figured out that I don't have to be special, be successful and achieve a lot to be good enough, it really was a game changer. I don't feel guilty because I'm "behind" anymore, and I act out of inspiration instead. And I find joy in the simple things. I still consume self help, but I'm looking for content where it's assumed that you are whole from the beginning.
@@hannemikkelsen607 Thank you for this beautifully written comment. I resonate with everything you said! No amount of self-help content will heal you if you do not have a foundation of unconditional self-love/acceptance, free from shame, social standards/pressures etc. It can feel a bit lonely and scary at first but the freedom and inner peace received in exchange makes it worth it.
I agree! Especially the downfall and sadness that comes with “I’ve read, listened to books, podcasts” why can’t I feel better? 🥲 keep it up bibi 🩷
i can 100% relate to you😂😂😂 tube subway metro
