The pipe organ at Trinity Lutheran is unique. Thanks for sharing.
Awsome
That's my mother! I wanted to make a video myself but never got around to it. Thank you so much for doing this. Unfortunately, it wasn't shared with me until today. God bless you, Stephen, and thank you again.
I worked on the Historic Organs in Colonial Williamsburg (Virginia). I learned how to work with 1/6 comma meantone temperment (sp.). Several years after beginning this contract, the curator of musical instruments asked us to re-tune 4 organs including a Bureau Organ, (maker I do not remember). The only one of the four could be re-tuned to equal temperment (sp.). The Samual Green in Bruton Parish. Much of that pipework had already been tinkered with to allow this. The Bureau Organ would come close. I quit this contract after this. The curator and I could not agree on anything.
The exposed pipes are well-balanced. At first, I thought they had divided C/C# to the left and right of that sumptuous casework. My eyes finally told me the right and left are different pipework. I worked for M P Moller from 1955 to 1978. They built and I installed a two manual modified Artiste Model in Norfolk, Virginia. They divided the C C# each side of the Chancel. C C# pipes separated by (about??) 15 feet. Disaster from the beginning. I was so embarrassed at the dedication. The tuning was dreadful. It did get fixed eventually and now a good organ. Moller was good about correcting their engineering mistakes. Bill Simonds - 80 years old - Richmond, Virginia.
Thanks for your story about Möller's background Bill. It's nice to hear from people that worked on organs.
Question - Are the Celeste's unison rank and sharp/flat rank separated? Moller was foolish at a point in time and put the unison rank and sharp/flat next to each other. What a disaster! We separated them with a piece of cardboard, and it only helped a little. It was corrected later using an offset chest to put the off-unison rank. All Was Only Then Well. ARE THERE any flat tuned Celeste's in the Austin? Thank You and Bless You for doing the series. I thoroughly enjoy it each one. Bill Simonds - 80 y.o. - formerly with Moller.
I believe the ranks are separated into two different chambers
Why do you not mention the tremolos? I recall most of the Austins I serviced and tuned used a wooden paddle (of sorts) as a tremolo/tremulant. Many people thought this not good. I personally thought the effect thrilling. Austins voicing was impeccable, as in the Austing I am seeing which is beautiful and powerful. Their Diapasons were not matched by any other builder. AMEN I promise.
The Austin is something where most organist only dream of playing. I heartily agree that 1964 (plus or minus a few years) was a terrible year for organ building. The wind pressures were low. The windways of the pipes were very thin and bi-metal subject to closing and opening making tuning go-out with only slight changes in temperature. Reeds stops would not stay in tune. Mixtures were edgy, etc. etc. I was servicing several organs of this vintage and not too pleased. Bill Simonds - 80 years old - formerly with M P Moller. Thanks for listening.
Good Lord! That is beautiful!
Mark is a conspiratorial right wing psychopath that assembles piles of junk!
BRO!
Are any of you organs near the Boston Ma or Manchester NH area?
Not yet, unfortunately. Everything is paid out of pocket since there is currently no income. We are hoping to travel further in the near future.
BRO?
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I GOT A SHOUT OUT!!! WOOOOOO
PIPING UP IS BACK!!!!!!
yes indeed! the boys are back!
Oh yeah!
Hi Stephen, is the organist here in this, Eugene Hopkins, a fan of Virgil Fox's work? I noticed one of the pieces played in this, is a Fox arrangement.
It is a Virgil Fox arrangement! I don't know if Eugene is a fan but I definitely am. I was happy that his arrangement was played
Oh yeah I definitely am too. I wonder if Fox ever played this organ? Would be cool if he would’ve at some point
Excellent series. Appreciate your hard work
Usually on three manual organs if they need a larger reed rank (usually a tuba) they will put it in the choir so that it can be used in contrast with the great and swell choruses. It’s not unusual at all and is definitely the best division to put it in for a three manual organ!
Thanks for sharing! I always thought that was saved for the swell and not the choir.
I LOVE ORGANS!
an end to a great series.....WELL DONE GENTLEMEN!
What is this piece?
Trumpet tune - David German
