just a quick video to help you guys out because the dealer or the shops are probably going to want to sell you a whole compressor. but you can just get away with changing the clutch and the pulley.

    The clutch plate won’t push on the splines look perfect …. The old clutch plate was a bugger coming off. Can this just be hammered on?

      It should slide on most of the way by hand. Try putting some lubricant on the splines.

    Hi friend, I know I’m three years late, but how did you get the belt off without removing the alternator belt and taking the fan shroud out to have more tensioner room? Thank you!

      Easy!! A knife 😂 But seriously ratchet wrenches are a big help to sneak in there.

    My Subaru clutch coil failed which is why I wanted to watch this video. So half thanks for putting this up. BTW, Subaru coils are known to fail.

    This repair seems to have fixed my "noisy when engaged" and "only partially blowing cool air when it's hot" issues. I ended up using none of the spacers provided in the new kit and seem to have good engagement and spinning. The original clutch had 2 spacer washers on it so I'm a little surprised. Do yourself a favor and buy better spring clip tools than the $5 husky ones at Walmart. The spring clips were a bear for me to get on/off even with the tool. Removing the washers without taking the whole thing apart again at the end after I tested it was also a bear. I had to use a dental pick to reach inside and try to pull them off the threading. Turns out it likes zero washers and it doesn't even make a scraping sound at all like his did.

    Mine has been making noise all week and I just assumed it was the power steering pump. After replacing an O ring and return line clamp for the pump I realized the noise was actually coming from the AC pulley. At least the AC belt is dedicated only to the AC system and can be removed without affecting anything else. I used to think my old Grand Cherokee was garbage until I started driving an 06 Forester with the 2.5, at least I don't have to worry about getting a speeding ticket.

      It's a tight fit for sure I used a small straight pick once I got one side up and walked it out.

      It's rough even with spring clip pliers. They're deep in there and flush.

    There's certain gap the clutch is supposed to be set at at. The metal noise and "grinding it down" is not normal....

    • @ttech5212
      @ttech5212 Рік тому

      You are absolutely correct there's also special tools and shop manuals available. But this is how I do it In the back yard. By no means is this the textbook way of doing it. How ever it is still working today making no noise and with a really quiet engagement everytime the compressor kicks in. I appreciate the concern and comment have a great day.
