Saved! A vintage lace wedding dress from 1938 gets cleaned and repaired
Success! Originally worn in 1938, this vintage lace wedding dress is clean and wearable-with gentle care- once again. Thank you @theanastasialee1 for donating this lovely dress! Distilled water was used for an initial soak to potentially "re-hydrate" the fibers.
Thank you to the follower who suggested this idea-I can't seem to find your comment tag you! Distilled water was also used along with sodium Perborate to brighten the dress. The torn lace was repaired by hand and is much improved. I love the little blue snippet of satin The buttons did brighten a bit with a mist of peroxide and then covered in baking soda-but please note this was an experiment and one l have not done before. The dress is currently on EBay- fits best like an XS/S. #vintageweddingdresscleaning #beforeandafter #worththeeffort #vintageclothescleaning #oldvintage #vintagedress #vintageweddingdresses #weddingdress

“Velvet Dress 1920” Research and a closer look at this 1920’s dress
Переглядів 5429 годин тому
This is such an intriguing dress! As found it had a slip of paper pinned onto it that read "Velvet Dress 1920". It is made out of cotton velvet and the accent fabric is one l've not seen before it has a super soft brushed feel but a different weave / appearance than a regular velvet. I did a bit of research and from a 1927 catalog found a fabric called Voiville that they describe as having a so...

A cute little pair of vintage Velveton lederhosen gets some TLC to spruce them up using peroxide and baking soda for the felt backing, saddle soap for the leather, a bit of Dawn and water for the carved medallion and Retro Wash with a color catcher for the main shorts ( though the Color catcher didn't catch all the color bleed as some did transfer to the inside waistband) New laces were made an...

New subscriber here. I've been collecting vintage clothing for 40 years and I also have a fondness for wedding dresses. At last count, I think there's something like 25 in the collection, though most of them tend toward the Victorian/Edwardian. It's fabulous what you're doing, cleaning and repairing those that can be worn again. Keep it up!

NO Please NO. If not for actual wedding, use it for rehearsal dinner or wedding shower tea. It would be too delicate for prom and would get destroyed. I do think it would be nice for a small informal afternoon wedding

@@BarbaraSculati Hopefully not one over 85 years old to be destroyed that way. Now, if the girls go and buy some of those 1980's ones the thrift stores put out at Halloween since no one wants them and have you redo them to make them either look up to date or more traditional to get out that awful 1980's look, that is different. Those would not have fragile material so easy ripped by dancing.

I don’t do garment repairs so I don’t know how the garment will be treated, but I do a lot of dying on natural fibers and fabrics. Onion skins are a fugitive dye, even when you use a mordant they will fade. From what I’ve experienced they fade faster on man made fabric, but the fabric I was using was modern poly satin. Still, if you want your repairs to maintain their look you will probably want to experiment with dyes.
