While us historians can point out inaccuracies , and add more historical information; the true point of this narrative is to inspire patriotism amongst ignorant clueless people who have no idea of the sacrifices of American Patriots. I find nothing wrong with this short inspirational clip for its designed purpose. If anything it inspires curiosity to need more information. Fort McHenry was a fort but it was used as a barracks. There was probably some military families there.

I have to admit I found your video a bit abrasive at first but your intentions are appreciated and I agree with your closing thoughts. In the vast story of history, it seems every event gets a bit of a makeover, depending on who's telling the tale. No doubt the British had a completely different spin on it. The video isn't a story of historical accuracy but more of a fable about the origin of the song that is based on known events. The battle at Fort McHenry took place during the War of 1812 along with at least 7 other notable battles. It is estimated that about 22,000 to 25.000 American Soldiers and sailors lost their lives in the war who had no songs to remember them by except for "The Battle of New Orleans" which became a popular folk song about the battle of that name. So the Star Spangled Banner could be considered a metaphor for all of the sacrifices made during the War, not an accurate and detailed account. I could go into inaccuracies I know of that you didn't mention but in the end it is still all hearsay and the quest for the truth will always be a never ending odyssey. That is the sad way of history. Oh for a time machine and a camera with lots of memory cards and batteries! Having said all this I do appreciate your critical thinking. I would love to see you tackle The Book of Genesis!

I'm a college student and I took a class on music history. I needed to analyze a country's national anthem. It just so happened that I was writing a paper about Argentina. This helped me a lot. Thank you very much for your video. It's very good.

Hey Alexander, I really liked the Interview, but I have one issue. At around 18:00 you say that DeroVolk and the "good part" of the Anthem community upload all the Hymns only for educational purposes and to just catalogue them because they're important historically. And while I think that's an important aspect, you contradict something you two just spoke about minutes earlier. You both just agreed that listening to those songs and anthems let's one connect to that people, their spirit and the times and lands they lived in. Why do you think their morals and actions have to comply with "modern" standarts, for us to enjoy and use theeir music outside of strictly educational and archiveing purposes?

How did you think posting a video debunking this rendition of the history of our national anthem was a good idea? Literally, all you did was piss people off. Truth is, this story is embellished, but only slightly. 4 people, and 20+ people were wounded during the attack. The fact that the flag was still standing the next morning signaled to the British that sailing up the river would result in their destruction. The flag, is in our national museum. like ACTUALLY in the museum. I am American, and our country has a metric ton of social and political problems, but the birth of this nation is not in question. What remains in question, is what we do with it now that we have it, as we continue to strive to form a more perfect union. No nation is without growing pains, but "debunking" known history.. is just .. well... dumb.

So here's where truth meets fiction. The Star spangled banner was inspired by his poem. The song itself has had other lines added, and some removed over time, but the story and poem behind the song is true. Those first Americans (and I mean those who turned part of a continent into an nation, not the first inhabitants of this land) those men died to protect the great experiment - the first constitutional republic run by the people, for the people without a dictator or king. The belief in freedom and liberty from kings and despots is represented by that flag. I would give everything i have to immigrate to america, and here you are, unable to appreciate the history of your own country, even though the journey hasn't been perfect. Man kind is not perfect. There is no nation without some shame in it's past.

You made the statement "America was never great". So I have to ask are you conflating the word "great" with "best"? For Physical achievements I turn to the Olympic medal count (U.S. 2,959) next closest competitor (Russia 1,204) For scientific and knowledge achievements I look at Nobel Peace prizes laureates (U.S. 400) next closest competitor (U.K. 138) Length of time it took to become the richest and most powerful country the world has ever known.....less then 200 years. All this despite the fact that other countries had 1000's more years to gather wealth and power then us. America may not be the best country, that metric would probably be measured by citizen overall happiness......but we are the greatest country on God's green earth and if disagree then please state who is and why. No thumbs up to you for spreading misinformation about American greatness.

i grew up mormon, and the national anthem is in the hymn book. of course it was sang around holidays like the 4th of july, but also randomly throughout the year. the frequency varied depending on who the chorister was because they ultimately were the ones to pick the three songs we would sing during sacrament meeting. the church choir also would periodically sing the national anthem.
