i just love music and trying things
obsessed with banjo since 2019. started playing on and off since summer 2021. focusing (with goals and consistent practice) since spring/summer 2024.
not playing left handed! my camera just flips it so the video looks that way. i don't know how to change the settings 😅

learning how to play banjo AGAIN .. "boil them cabbage down" | bluegrass banjo practice
That's really pretty, I played it a few times. If that's gEADE, then I only learned one song in that tuning. I haven't tried Cumberland Gap yet.
@@BanjoRose_down-picker gCGCD, i dont know any songs in gEADE
@@banjodaze Oh, Double C! I just learned Red Rocking Chair in that tuning, but didn't record it yet.
Are you going to start uploading more on UA-cam shorts or stick with longer videos ?
@@TyW2020 i don't know i just kind of upload shorts on a whim lol
I stood upon that precipice, Cumberland Gat, five years old. Had a Batman in my left hand, had a Robin in my right: don't call them dolls.. It's a special place.
Very good!!

why is iphone storage impossible 😭 but anyway here's more practice lol
Beauty! Sounding great for something described as "really rough", keep on it. You're sticking to your practice and progress way better than I am
@@jasons6491 thank you! hows it going for you?
@@banjodaze I'm working on the mountain dulcimer rather than the banjo. I've got a few tunes lined up that I need to get a good recording of. I got a new camera holder for Christmas that should help, but once the camera is on it seems like I'm a million times more likely to make mistakes. Need to learn to stop psyching myself up over it.
@@jasons6491sorry if u get a million notifications, it won't let me reply to ur comment for some reason. dulcimers are cool!! and i get it, im the same way. its really frustrating. but being able to look back at these is nice because even listening to mistakes its like.. "well i know i can do better than that when im having fun instead of recording." so it reminds me that i sound better than i think! if that makes any sense lol
@@banjodaze That's a great way to look at it. I should be better about being willing to upload videos with more mistakes in them. I title them as "learning to play" so I might as well allow myself some leeway
@ trust me, there's a lot that no one sees because i'm so hard on myself. let's challenge that perfectionism! 💪🏽
Wooo!!! More!!! Thanks for sharing :)

@@lothuialil4136 thanks for watching! i hope you're having fun learning ☺️
Great Job!
thanks!
Very Nice!
thank you
Great playing on one of the most fun tunes out there on banjo. Very interesting how you use your right hand thumb to pluck the 4th fret bass string and center string while being a middle finger for the stroke player.
thanks! been practicing drop thumb and such
@@banjodaze nice! interesting to see drop thumb of a whole beat, and on a melody note. Instead of trailing eighth note. Not a lot of folks do it that way, besides on the 5th string. Great to see that folk music process at work! kudos
vibes so good. could you please do these days by nico???
thank you. never heard of it. velvet underground nico?
@ ooh! I guess so yeah. The song is also used in a Wes Anderson film ur banjo playing reminded me of it
Cool sound! Keep up the good work ;)

happy weekend! in case you don't watch shorts, here's how that last session ended up going. saw some improvement!
pleas shovv your beautiful face
Beginner? Lady, you already have a feel for the pull and place. You can't teach that. You're a natural.
thank you! thats very kind
@@banjodaze Naw, just a fact. You'll see. You might be learning the words of a new musical language, but what you're saying comes from inside. How you voiced the strings told me that. Be well. And I hope you become successful beyond your wildest imaginings.
Sounds good! Well done. 👍 Keep it up. Check out my original songs. Playlist titled Mountain Man has originals and a handful of covers. Hope you enjoy them!✌❤❄
I absolutely LOVE this tune. Am just perfecting it myself on minstrel banjo. Wonderful work! So amazing to see others taking up the instument and bringing its history forwarded into the 21st century.
awesome! thanks for watching ^^
Beautiful tune. Be sure to view “The Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford…” an absolutely incredible and beautiful + authentic historical film. This song will mean much more after watching. It is even performed in the film.
@@HistoryBoy i will look it up! thanks
Reading his biography right now, I believe that Stephen Foster would be honored to see you playing this song 170 years after his composition. I would be personally grateful if you took a look at our version of this tune. It is on the first record my Stringband “The Nutmeggers” and I have just published - please let us know what you think! ua-cam.com/video/dQdtGx7Bmdk/v-deo.htmlsi=tI_ZI7huj4DHW6t_
@@HistoryBoy soundin good! do yall have an official yt channel / is that link the one i should follow?
@@HistoryBoy ps- really enjoy ur version of cindy
Awesome & your banjo sounds great, I need to upgrade!
That's pretty! I learned The Blackest Crow in CC tuning. What tuning do you usually play?
@@BanjoRose_down-picker I learned a bunch in G mostly. I know a couple that aren't, like some in G modal. But right now I'm really focusing on CC for the first time.
@@banjodaze Anything that you learn in CC tuning you could play in DD by putting the capo on the 2nd fret and tuning the strings to a,D,A,D,E. Fiddlers like this tuning because of how their fiddle is set up, so when you play in a jam, you might have to change the tuning to DD.
Sounds awesome! 😎
