Truly the age of neckbeards
Watching your lists is making me want to play XCOM 2 again, good content
I agree on most of these but one question Why is Andromedon the only S tier and also higher than Gatekeeper? Gatekeeper is harder to kill imo. And more punishing if you dont kill him.
Bluescreen rounds work on the gatekeeper. Even when you leave it up, it may choose to direct its aoe atk. to a group of corpses for psi zombies, so there is an avenue where it doesn't even try to attack you
@ ah I see, that makes sense. I never leave him up though, out of fear he’s gonna use the guaranteed aoe damage on my guys. I also don’t use Bluescreen as much as you do so that’s probably why we feel different about the Gatekeeper.
it would be tight af if someone timestamped each item
let's go
Bladestorm my beloved
My first ever templar was the best unit in the game for me, she had blade storm, reaper and fast hands, mixed in with how op her melee abilities were she took out entire pods on her own
I am very surprised that the Assassin is lower tier than the Hunter. I've never had any issue with the Hunter at all in any playthrough. The Assassin has outright killed some of my ironman runs.
Did you consufused the cap of the trashcan for a mine? Bro is cooking with the stove off 😨😨😨
The one saving grace about the Smoke Grenade that people always forget is that it doesn't actually count as a "Grenade" slot item (unlike, say, the Flashbang Grenade). Since you can (typically) only carry one Grenade plus a second non-grenade item, you could have both a Frag and a Smoke grenade on one unit, but the Flashbang would have to *replace* your Frag grenade. I still agree that the Flashbang is better than the Smoke Grenade, but the fact that you can take both a Frag and a Smoke with you does mean I usually buy a Smoke to fill an empty non-grenade slot. It's like what you said about the Nanoscale vest, buying it to fill a non-grenade slot item slot... The Smoke Grenade can be used in the same way.
There's a mod which allows you to use psi ops as normal soldiers (they level up normally, get their psi tree abilities as normal soldiers), if you wanna use it for this challenge. Psi lab becomes a utility for an amp bonus (?) I think, not a requirement for learning psi abilities. You can level up psi ops from the get go and they learn the psi talents with promotions with that mod.
King Baldwin IV will be proud of this run.
Sustaining sphere has use for late game rank ups too. If you want to give some corporal a better chance at ranking up later in the game it's a helpful tool Not enough to bring it up a tier, but worth considering for that edge case
I understand that ppl don't like the lost but the little dopamine hits I get from killing them is enough to make me like them. Also I have some mods that make for absolutely chaotic missions with Lost, Chosen, Resistance, Alien, & XCOM turns
Cryssalids are pretty poopy unless they spawn on a retaliation, I had a retaliation with 3 pods of them attacking civilians & spawning cocoons. That mission I killed 50 enemies. On a fucking retaliation.
Grats! The ending was suspenseful. Wanted to ask earlier while watching the run: why did you only use the Ikarus armor as 'special armor'? I mean no proving ground ones for heavy weapon/grapple or the berserker one.
Only one utility slot on rage and serpent, unfortunately
Sectopods are so much scarier in enemy unknown/within imo
That gateway mission was a badly maintained roller coaster ride, wowzah.
🤣
Honestly I find Sparks underrated. Late game they're outclassed, yeah, but early-mid game proving grounds and a SPARK means they're going up against things that don't like going against machines like Sectoids, Vipers, Purifiers and a lot of Chosen abilities that are designed to incapacitate. They're a pillar unit that makes sure you have a option to support your team with its high damage, lack of will meaning it won't get tired meaning you can just get it out on more missions, and its Overdrive means it's able to make remarkable distance to wherever it needs to be. I get not everyone wants to put that investment into both figuring out how to use a Spark and actually committing the resources for one, but I think they deserve a bit more love than they get.
I think sectoid should be c tier due to that face they can take control of your people and raise the dead
Archon King is so ridiculous, should be proud of this legendary run
My current run is the first time I've had the Warlock as a starting Chosen and the retaliation mission where he showed up was a fucking 70 minute gauntlet where I was just struggling to survive and keep him at bay. The constant mind control was really fucking my squad up considering that I didn't have any real upgrades yet.
I'm pretty sure the story reason for "Neutralize enemy targets" is that you need to clear them out for the reward. Hitting the objective counters the dark event, but killing all of advent gets you the supplies, intel, engineer, etc.
Rough ending. As much as it was bad rng, I think you were a bit arrogant for continuing the mission after one soldier fell unconscious. I mean, in the thick of it, it‘s mentally hard to back out but I would have evac‘d out by carrying the unconscious soldier before frost bombing the muton… really sorry to see that man.
the ac in the background is killing me
😅yea sorry
I think 4 sharpshooters + 1 faction unit of your choice would be a bit more fun
Or 1 faction unit for the campaign without breaking the 4-man rule. Some types of missions are not winnable with only sharpshooters. 1 faction unit might balance that out with either durability or stealth
Oh man, I cackled when I saw that title right after watching your whole grim horizon playthrough where you were allergic to sharpshooters. Excited to watch the vid and see where this goes
Yeh, haven’t seen thorns that useful in recent times. The last 2 times I remember was 1 in a game called Neverwinter where I stacked acid, elemental and other shields. If anyone attacked my mage, they would explode while I didn’t get any damage or very low. Was busted. 2 was in borderlands with a siren, there was a build that used elemental shields and counter damage as part of the build, was also crazy busted.

Squadsight is s+ to me because it completely trivializes rulers. Frost bomb from out of line of sight, keep vision with a concealed unit, and snipe down the ruler 100 to 0. Because the shots come from out of LOS, it doesn’t trigger their action. You can skip turn with the rest of your units (who are also LOS). It’s so strong it’s basically cheating - so understandable to not use it - but I think that makes it s+
Surprised you didn’t mention sharpshooters with blue screen. Gunslinger abilities allow you to shoot so many times with plus 5 damage each. Lightning bands for free, fan fire to do 28 damage to a single target, then face off to do 8-9 to everything else is a nasty turn
Smoke grenade must do reverse, not cover our troops, but cover enemy reduce aim in area
I have to play xcom 2 at least once a year. Just the best turn based game I've ever played. Mods really help with replay value also.
Sustaining sphere for solo reaper runs on facilities to quickly get avatar progress down and no worry about triggering a pod when you just want to rush in and out.
Killzone and covering fire combo is absolutely devastating for using as ambush or at the end of the turn
I had an early op with savage sitrep and accidentally popped 6 faceless in one turn. I didnt have mag wep at this point so it was a tough battle. Still managed a flawless.
Flashbang is seriously underrated. It doesn’t just disorient enemies. It disables their abilities as well. It frees your units from grabs, mind control etc… Lowers both attack and defence, enemies can’t dodge. Prevents enemy units from teleporting, codex from splitting in 2, prevents psych attacks and other special abilities. It may lose some effectiveness in the late game due to higher enemies and your own units using skills & dealing more damage, but it can still find some use. But for first 1/2, maybe 2/3 of game I find it absolutely crucial to help control the battlefield. It also helps immensely with DLC alien rulers. They straight up ignored my mimic beacons. But flashbang slowed them down and again prevented them from using their massive AoE abilities.
I did encounter two Sectopods in the same facility that houses the progress for the avatar. Despite being in separate groups, if I was reckless you can imagine the devastation they'd have if they are right next to each other. Arguably it depends how you strategize as well and sometimes running forward with very few actions towards an area you run into it's never fun and yes they attack three times, but usually how I've seen them do it is normal cannon first twice in a row and then wrath cannon. Pretty painful if you don't suppress them unless they risk moving forward and then just shoot you to the ground.
death from above plus hunter rifle
Chosen is so easy with 6 shot banish + 15% repeater instant kill same with king and queen 15% instant kill chance with 6 shot probability = 62.285% chance of instant kill activate at least once with Inside Knowledge 20% instant kill chance with 7 shot probability = 79.028% chance of instant kill activate at least once
Its interesting that you hate Templars. For me and my playstyle, a Templar lieutenant onwards racks up so many kills. Part of that is requiring that they access Bladestorn, but even still they regularly deal high damage with amazing defensive capabilities with Parry and Deflect. I rarely spend Focus, as I prioritise filling it out for higher damage and dodge chance.
I pretty much agree with everything here, and your ramble about grenades being limited is probably my biggest pet peeve in the game; the specialized ones you have to research yeah that makes sense for balancing, but grenadiers only being able to carry three mundane ones is just disappointing. Another reason I'd put demolition last is because missed shots damage cover, so even if you're unlucky trying to hit an enemy behind cover odds are the rest of the squad won't have to deal with it anyway. Mechs can be targeted with fuse funny enough, which is a nice option since psionics have limited options against robots. Also if void rift rolls insanity it also inflicts schism's rupture debuff. I agree the psionics can trivialize the game between their crowd control and range alone, though do you think they could pull off a 1 man army challenge? The reapers were probably the most disappointing class for me though, yeah their mobility is amazing and they have great utility in timed missions, your rant about the game cheating their stealth early just highlighted why I think of them as worse sharpshooters, that and the reveal chance I'd swear is a lie. Homing mine though makes the next hit against that target guarantied or buffed accuracy regardless if it's the reaper's attack and gets triggered from any attack that connects, so it's better as a setup for an ally out of position, I'd say it's just a better claymore since it makes it reliable in combat with how often they move; where it shines is dropping it on an enemy before take cover, or on an armored target near a car as they'll get hit with both explosions or three if you grenade them. The templars would've been frustrating with all the chance and setup required to be squad support, I agree they're better utilized as bait with rend & parry spam but running around for focus is simply annoying. While you can't make an enemy fall with invert, you can exploit the templar's hazard immunity to set someone on fire with it lol. The only time I got any use out of exchange was on a rescue mission and a wounded ally got ambushed by a faceless.
So many of these items are very situational; plus we should acknowledge the difference between "normal" missions versus Story specific ones + also consider Guerilla Ops such as in WOTC. Stasis Vest for example is pretty rubbish in normal missions, but actually could be a smart choice for a high risk 2x person guerilla Op mission. Likewise, the Hazmat Vest can also greatly increase the movement range for Rangers or Templars etc, due to them nor having to avoid and move around hazards. Finally, never forget the impact on the strategic game, i.e., the Skull-Jack can enable you to get intel from a tactical mission when you really need it; perhaps to cancel an upcoming effect, or use intel to buy another item from the black market. Thank you however for a great and insightful video from another true Xcom fan. Well Done!
Bro you haven’t uploaded in a while, you ok?
I'm doing well, been putting my time elsewhere while I wait for that content creation spark to return
@@EdwinofEberron Like your steam backlog, we'll be here when you get back. 👍
Huh, didn't realize the chosen traits are randomized; guess I got an unlucky roll with her being immune to overwatch & melee while the warlock was immune to explosions, had to rush defeating both before they became royal headaches.
The chosen traits may be the same if you enable the story mission that introduces the assassin and skirmisher capture, but I'm not sure
@@EdwinofEberron I haven't replayed it yet myself so I'm also unsure lol
I'm playing a lwotc campaign right now, and I'd say 4 or the 6 soldiers i usually bring have 2 smoke grenades. I use those things so much. Its good against robotic enemies who are immune to flashbangs unless you have a specific class character with that perk throw it
With the right set up, death from above can be OP for snipers. I give my snipers either a spider armor or the serpent ruler armor to reposition. And with the Chosen sniper rifle, you only need 1 action to shoot. So you can keep shooting as long as you're able to keep killing. Which is generally not too hard, especially if you have things like ap rounds.
I didnt realize the codex didnt show up until you skulljacked an officer. Id always rush skulljacking and codexs would absolutely dumpster my squad of seargents with basic weapons and armor
Might be too short for a video, but I'd be interested in a class tier list
