WTF IS APERTURE?! The F.number on your camera explained
The F. number on your screen represents what you'll have perhaps heard referred to as the Aperture.
Easy trick is to think of the F as standing for 'field' or focus
Don't worry about the science of why. Just understand what setting to choose:
The lower the number the smaller the focus area is, or the shallower the 'depth of field' (a term used by videographers and photographers)
Low F.numbers like f1.8 are great for close up detail shots
Higher numbers like f8 are good for landscapes
The Aperture is key in choosing the creative look and feel of a shot.
Notes:
Some lenses only start at f4
Watch out for this:
The lower the number, the smaller the window for movement, so if you are filming at f1.8 and a person moves (even by a few millimetres) you could find the focal point is no longer on the eyes but on the nose.
Play around with the F.number on your camera and see what look and feel you can create.

RECORD SETTINGS FOR FILMING VIDEO - the shutter speed
Переглядів 8010 місяців тому
When it comes to video people often ask 'what should my shutter speed setting be?' Or sometimes, people even ask what the shutter speed even is! The shutter speed in video is important because it determines how motion is captured and how that translates when you playback your video. I won't go into the science of how, I don't do that. Technical analysis is creative paralysis. I don't need to kn...

    Just seen your two videos about Kevin Bacon's recovery. My daughter's dog Olive (Cavapoo) had the same surgery four days ago so it is all still a bit raw for her. found your recovery videos to be very helpful and encouraging about the time scales that can be involved. Did you make any further video's about Kevin's progress? I could only find two. Many thanks.

    Such a great message! It's so important to see people weigh risks and make sensible decisions, you can still have a great time even if it's not doing exactly what you'd planned, you didn't just give up entirely and say "Argh, it's not meant to be, we'll go home instead" you looked at the conditions you came to the safest conclusion and you changed your itinerary.

    nice video, thanks for sharing. Just one word of caution, may be on the risky side taking water from the river to cook, Check "Is my river fit to play in" for a very detailed (and shocking) map of how much sewage is damp into each river. It is also very useful to choose places which are less affected.

    How about the voyager 12.6? Do you like it more than the sport 11.3 model that you use in other videos? I would like to know which of the two boards is faster and more stable between the 12.6 and 11.3 vayager. Thank you very much.

    • @Elliecartwright_filmmaker
      @Elliecartwright_filmmaker 3 роки тому

      Hi Pablo, the fastest board is the 13’2 Voyager board. All of the red boards I’ve found to be extremely stable. The 13’2 though is narrower at 30” and feels slightly less stable at first but it’s design means it’s still super stable. I haven’t fallen in from it! Both the Sport and the 12’6 voyager are 32 inches wide so feel more stable. The voyagers are all faster due to the v-shape on the hull. But it depends what you want it for. I ended up choosing to keep the sport because it’s a bit smaller and perfect for the kind of river outings I like to do. Can still be used for mini adventures. If you want to go adventuring with the sup, long distance paddling and camp outs etc defo go for the voyager. Hope that helps!

    • @PRS792
      @PRS792 3 роки тому

      @@Elliecartwright_filmmaker Thank you very much for your help, you are very kind. My idea is to buy the Voyager 12.6 model from 2022 that is about to go on sale, the fear I have is that it would be an excessively slow board. I have looked at the Voyager 13.2 and I like it a lot… the problem is that I have never done paddle surfing, and my girlfriend would also use it and she has little balance. We have no experience either. I've been watching your videos for months and I'm looking forward to it going on sale to the board ... only sometimes I wonder if the 12.6 model is too slow. The idea is to make 1-day trips in the Mediterranean Sea near the coast. Thank you very much for your help. All the best! EDIT: sorry for my English

    • @Elliecartwright_filmmaker
      @Elliecartwright_filmmaker 3 роки тому

      @@PRS792 the 12’6 is definitely not a slow board at all! It’s the second fastest in their range. And it’s the same width as the lower model boards so has the same stability. It’s a great choice. You mentioned Paddle ‘surfing’ though - is that on the sea? Like you want to catch waves and surf? If so you’d need a specific small board for that called the Whip. Another option for you and your girlfriend to enjoy sup together could be the 15’ voyager tandem!

    • @PRS792
      @PRS792 3 роки тому

      @@Elliecartwright_filmmaker Thank you very much Ellie for your advice and taking the time to help me. Definitely and if you say that it is not a slow board I think I will buy the voyager of 12.6. I'm not interested in catching waves or surfing, just cruising near the coast. Travel quietly taking photos, eating in small coves and things like that. I was looking at the tandem model and I think I could buy it in the future, in a few years. But my budget is limited so I was afraid of not making the right choice. I read many comments from people always recommending the 13.2 model over the 12.6 ... but if it is not a slow model, it is more stable and also works better in windy situations or the sea a bit rough ... .definitely I stay with Voyager 12.6. Thank you very much for everything, keep uploading videos that are very entertaining and you have a fabulous channel, congratulations and thank you very much once again. A greeting from Spain.

      Hey! It’s been a very long process honestly and he’s had a few set backs. Hydrotherapy has been game changing! But sadly I don’t think he’ll ever be how he was before. We have to watch him a lot, he often gets muscle soreness and back spasms from tension in his back. But we know what to look out for now! The key for me is hydro, some laser, cod liver oil, and acupuncture (when he’s a bit sore) and making sure he keeps his weight down!

    • @Elliecartwright_filmmaker
      @Elliecartwright_filmmaker 3 роки тому

      Honestly just make sure you give time to his recovery and all the help with physio and I’m sure yours will be absolutely fine. Kevin had grade 4 IVDD which is high, I think hence him not being back to normal. But for a lot of dogs I think they make full recoveries!

    Why do you guys opt for the waist leash? QR is sensible I guess but just interested to know.

    • @Elliecartwright_filmmaker
      @Elliecartwright_filmmaker 3 роки тому

      Hi Rupert, after falling in the river in January I did some much needed research into water safety. QR is essential on rivers and lakes due to the fact that if you fall in your leash could become wrapped around debris or trees. Having experienced this in ice cold water - the speed of the flow can make it extremely difficult to reach your ankle so a leash around the waist can save your life 👍🏻 Knowing where you’re paddling and what the best gear is for it (for example non-coiled leashes on the sea) is super important for making sure you’re confident in all situations! Thanks for the comment 👏 I may do a video explaining my kit! Ellie

    • @rupertmarlow4668
      @rupertmarlow4668 3 роки тому

      Ok. Thanks for replying. I wasn’t questioning the leash as such but the waist vs ankle. Given the cost of these things alone, it’s necessary to tie them to something haha!! I guess the QR is simply easier on the waist if needed too and less chance of annoyance under-foot too… thanks for the tip.

    • @Elliecartwright_filmmaker
      @Elliecartwright_filmmaker 3 роки тому

      @@rupertmarlow4668 yeah essentially the waist access and quick release element means if you’re in difficulty you can release more quickly and easily. There is equally an argument for not having a leash at all on a river because the risk of getting it caught is high. You can get some pretty cheap but effective ones just online. 👍🏻
