This is a great video and unique in its portrayal of the mantle convection. Can I get permission to use it in an informal (non commercial) meeting of our local geological society?
yes, Plate Tectonic Basics 2 is out now, 2 versions: upper division ua-cam.com/video/W6oJKsSiLEI/v-deo.html and lower division ua-cam.com/video/HQqrfIVkctM/v-deo.html . Plate tectonic basics 3 (PT and Metamophism) is under construction now.
Thanks for the video, very useful for undergraduate students and for their teachers. I would have spent some word on carbon recycling at subduction zones (not only hydrogen) and I would have preferred to see two convecting systems, interrupted at the mantle transition zone (i.e., one in the uppermost 670 km and the other from 670 to 2900 km).
pubs.geoscienceworld.org/gsa/geosphere/article/13/3/628/208073/a-new-animation-of-subduction-zone-processes Here's the article about the creation of the animation, its aims, and pretty much why what you wanted to see wasn't included in the detail you'd like to see it. (I just did an assignment on this article, basically part of a class assignment to dismantle "Subduction Top to Bottom 2").
Very well done and informative. I was directed to this from the GSA Facebook page. Bridal Veil Falls in Yosemite of the Sierras sure was dancing around!
This is an excellent animation and I've never seen a sequence on subduction that goes into such detail. There are many other versions out there but many depict subduction in different ways, which can be very confusing. This version is based on the latest scientific evidence from top Earth scientists and animators. As a producer of science visualizations myself, I am very appreciative of the time and effort that has gone into this and would highly recommend this visualization to educators and students of Earth science.
Hi, I just came across this video from going through all of the videos we have ever made. we now run on the UTD Geoscience Studios platform creating, well, geoscience animations like this video. i highly recommend you check it out if you are interested in this content

Hi, I know who posted this video. I can try to get in contact with him. Both him and I produce videos on the UTD Geoscience studios youtube channel
@@katieseals8788 That would be great. Many thanks Katie.
Great video!
amazing!
Does the title "Plate Tectonics Basics 1" imply that there are sequels?

How the earthworks was not worth taking
Why's that?
A was looking for a good educational video for explain the union about plate tectonics and this video is amazing. Thanks for this video

The challenging part is explaining all of this without all of the jargon so that it's more accessible to the public.

This is a great video! Looking forward to more!
Great! The most accurate youtube video regarding plate tectonics that I have seen! Great job filling a significant void!
