Freight at Flagstaff!
On Thursday, December 19, 2024, we were traveling across Arizona and stopped briefly at Flagstaff to shoot video of the action at the depot.
Within the time about 30 minutes, 4 trains passed by us. We caught three of them, including two stack trains and a liquid fertilizer train.
Thanks for watching and please subscribe to the channel!

Amtrak at La Posada in Winslow, Arizona!
Переглядів 208День тому
During the Christmas holidays of 2024, we traveled to Arizona and stayed for two nights at La Posada in Winslow. This hotel was the last hotel built by the Fred Harvey Company and opened in 1930. The hotel was designed by Atchison Topeka, and Santa Fe architect Robert Raney in the Spanish Colonial Revival Style consistent with other hotels in the Fred Harvey group. In 1957, the hotel closed and...
The Creede Branch of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad!

There are many branches of the old Denver & Rio Grande Western in Colorado that are worth exploring. On our recent Big Boy trip to Wyoming, we were traveling between the Sand Dunes National Park and Vallecito. From Alamosa until we turned southwest at South Fork, we were following the old Creede Branch of the D&RGW. The oldest predecessor of the line was the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, charte...

During a recent trip to Colorado, we stopped at the Ridgway Railroad Museum in Ridgway, Colorado. Check out the Ridgway Railroad Museum with us! The Rio Grande Southern Railroad was a narrow-gauge railroad which ran from the towns of Durango to Ridgway, Colorado. It was built by German immigrant and Colorado toll road builder Otto Mears. The RGS operated from 1891 through 1951 and was built wit...

Many excursion railroads close up shop during the winter months, but the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad still runs to Cascade Canyon, offering breathtaking scenery and a glimpse of the Animas River 400 feet below the tracks as the train slowly makes its way along the iconic High Line. We spent Thanksgiving 2024 in Durango and chased the train from Durango to Shalona, just west of Roc...

The Denver & Rio Grande Western Tennessee Pass Line!
Переглядів 1,9 тис.2 місяці тому
In 1881, the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW) constructed a narrow gauge railroad over Tennessee Pass, first as a branch line to access mines near Red Cliff, Colorado, but by the mid 1880s the line became part of its extension to the Aspen area constructed in order to beat the Colorado Midland's standard gauge route to that rich mining area. In 1890, a new standard gauge line was bu...

During our trip to Wyoming in July of 2024 to chase Big Boy, we also shot video of several Union Pacific freight trains between Rawlins, Wyoming and Cheyenne. This rarely visited portion of the Overland Route sees over fifty trains per day....

It’s a beautiful afternoon on October 8, 2024. Many of the Aspen trees have shed their leaves, especially in the higher elevations, but closer to Chama, the gold is still vibrant. Looking down the Los Pinos valley, we see Cumbres & Toltec 489 turn north bringing the Antonito to Chama train home. Sometimes it will stop at the water tank, but today it continues up the 2 percent grade toward Cumbr...

Durango & Silverton: Durango to the Highline!

As a videographer, you think about the shots you'd like to get. How do I shoot the Highline outside Rockwood, Colorado without a long hike or trespassing on the grade? It's a perfect mission for the Air 3 because it has great reception and endurance. This was shot on September 26, 2024 and 476 and 473 doubled headed out of Durango. Glenwood Springs, Colorado!
Переглядів 3403 місяці тому
There was fierce competition between the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad (D&RG) and the Colorado Midland Railroad to be the first to serve the community of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. In the late 1880s, Glenwood Springs was booming. The first railroad to reach Glenwood Springs would score first dibs on the business. After two years of arduous construction and an estimated $2 million dollars, the D...

Strasburg Rail Road and the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania!
Never been there but it seems pretty cool with all that freight. Freight is so rare around here it would be something new for me to see.
It looks like you're in California. The BNSF southern transcon that goes through Flagstaff is the busiest freight line in the country.
@ when even I take a trip down to Cajon Pass, I’ll see that stuff.
I love it here in Flagstaff
It's a nice place!
I noticed the audio is HORRENDOUSLY out of sync
If you're talking about the dispatcher audio, it is very compressed. Otherwise there would be huge gaps and the video would be about an hour long of nothing.
I like it they look good. And a cheap cost. Ya !!
Thanks!
Amazing work. I want to build Lamy station in 1/29.
I probably have all these dimensions in floor plan and elevation format if you're interested. Email me at yardlimitproductions@gmail.com
@ thank you very much.
Nice location with the station in the background. Excellent captures and nice crow.
B roll crow. Thanks Dom!
K5HLs sound neat at 70 MPH
Ah I stayed in Flagstaff with my brother and parents back around 2004 I think. Flagstaff is a very busy railroad junction, and we could hear rumbling and bells all through the night! It was alright just for one night, and actually quite fun. Nice video! Simon
Flagstaff is a great place to watching trains. Thanks, Simon!
Nice place, Flagstaff. I stayed there a few times during my travels. Great train action and the craft beer isn't half bad, either.
Winslow is better but Flagstaff is still a fun place. Thanks Ian!
😎😎
Great info overall but a few things. GTBS cannot issue authority. Authority is issued through signals, specific limits (Yard Limits, Restricted Limits) track warrant control territory, ABS, etc, so Form As cannot convey authority against the flow of traffic. That would be a signal or track warrant typically. Form As generally convey speed restrictions. Tracks out of service, unsafe conditions, etc. would be placed in the TCMs or Form Cs.
Thanks for pointing that out!
Fantastic. Beautiful place and excellent captures.
Thanks Dom!

Good Job. 👍🏼
I was on this exact train, and it just so happened that there was an annular eclipse that day, and I could see the eclipse happening through the steam as 315 and 484 worked their way out of Lobato, it was so genuinely incredible!
I remember that. I thought about getting the eclipse for the video but didn't have the necessary equipment to capture it. Glad you were there!
Revolution Rail runs rail bike tours west out of South Fork as far as the truss bridge over the Rio Grande river, a little over six miles one way. There’ve also been speeder rides from South Fork to as far as the end of track a few miles south of Creede. At one time there was a planned tourist railroad between South Fork and Creede that never came to pass, but I don’t think the dream is totally DOA. There’s some rail equipment stored at the South Fork depot, including a former SP B30-7.
A tourist line from South Fork to Creede would be a cool thing. That track should be used for something, if only for speeders as you mentioned. We saw some old rolling stock at South Fork when we passed through there. Thanks for the info!
Honestly nothing beats a Northern. I used to love the NYC Hudsons the best, then they became second only to the Lima Berkshires but Alco's Notherns are far and away my favorite now with all the other northerns close behind xD
They are very cool!
Thank you for an update on who bought the railroad after its bankruptcy.
You're welcome!
I worked as an extra board trainman out of Alamosa in the early 80s. At the time, we would run all the way to Creede every other weekend to drop off empty gondolas and pick up loads of silver ore. All of the switches at Creede were stub switches. Good to see trains running down that way.
Always good to see trains running on these old lines. I hope it continues. Thanks for commenting and sharing your memory with us.
Beautiful paint job.
I like it!
Interesting video. Never knew how many times the ownership Of this branch changed hands. I remember seeing a train on that section of track back in the summer of 2005.
Thanks!
My favorite line! Thank you for the video! Glad to hear the route is still being considered for re-activation, even if only partially. Great drone footage!
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing! Great historical info!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing. Very interesting and great horn.
Thanks for watching!
Tom, you weren't west of Monte Vista? This looks like barley going to Coors in Monte Vista.
I think you're right, Tim.
Szép videó!😀👍
Thank you!
Glad to see the line survives.
Definitely!
Imagine a K-27 on the Silverton, they should get 464 back in Durango!
I like that idea!
I had a couple of fabulous rides on this railroad in September '24. It was well worth travelling 5000 miles to visit 🙂 There is a fabulous contrast between the mountainous section and the desert section. Stopping for a full lunch in what to the passenger seems like the middle of nowhere was also fun.
Thanks for commenting. I totally agree!
Thanks!
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for sharing. It was awesome to see.
Thank you for watching!
I rode Goose #4 around the loop in October, 2021
Cool!
Szép videó!😀👍
Thanks!
Ah, this is nice to see. Takes me back to when I was there in July 2023. Such a great collection! I was lucky enough to have volunteer Larry come and show me around and inside the vehicles for my video. Motor 1 looks green in your pictures. I am SURE it was black when I saw it and I've always thought of it as black. Weird! Thanks for sharing this. 👍 Simon
I remember watching your video at some point. Nice job. You're lucky that Larry was around to talk to you. I remember 1 being dark green but it looks black in your video. Strange. Thanks for watching!
Hello Thomas, great video, with the K37 #493 and the diesel locomotive 101 in pairs. Thanks for showing it and a happy and healthy New Year 2025 to you and your family. Best regards Wolfgang
Happy New Year Wolfgang!
Great footage as usual! Thanks!
Thanks, David!
WTAF ?! , Diesels on the narrow gauge ?? This is pure B.S. The C&TS in Chama rules .
Any one want to tell him about the Cumbres & Toltec's new gorgeous diesel?
@@Big_Diehlno, no we aren’t
C&T just bought a diesel but they don’t plan to use it for excursion trains.
@@Big_Diehl I know they have a Diesel , but they will not use it on the head end of a revenue run .... D0&S has become Disneyland , Chama is the real thing.
@@YardLimit Correct , only for work xtras as it should be . D&S is a new Disneyland , C&TS is the real deal...
Nice video, but I much prefer steam whistles.
Everyone does
Awesome and the aerial footage is amazing.
Thanks Dom!
MAN !!! At 3:25 to 4:08 in, I couldn't help but notice that the rail here appears to be "spaghetti"-like, (like other Tourist Railroads) and how 493 is "weaving / Rock and Rolling" while going down the road. This would concern me greatly as "she's" probably only doing 25-30 mph, but still...I personally wouldn't ride behind some Class 1's in this Country for that matter. I'm just wondering IF this is a "Construction in progress", (by laying new - straight rail), or is it a Man-Yana, (sp)? kind of thing?
Top speed is about 15. The track is exaggerated by the zoom lens.
That is simply the tele making it look bad , this railroad is built very well .
An interesting catch. I would imagine it's cheaper than having a second steamer ready to double head.
Sad but true. Happy New Year Ian!
Szép videó lett!😀 Nyomtam egy nagy like!👍
Thank you!
Usually there would be another steam locomotive for the double header that leaves with the train from the depot, you usually never see this kind of doubleheader though. Thanks for catching this! very interesting.
Being unique was interesting. Two steam locomotives would have been better but I’m glad I got this.
Two steam locomotives are usually seen in the summer season, that’s arguably the best time to catch them
What a great job in creating this realism!
Thank you!
I have an e-clip off the bnsf transcon they are big and heavy spring steel
Ngl, I came up with my own fantasy railroad in the US, being called the PSFS (Pensacola & Santa Fe Southern) without knowing this railroad existed. The PSFS would have a fleet of F7 passenger and freight locomotives, E6 Passenger Locomotives, ES44DC Freight and (Fantasy) Passenger Locomotives, SD70ACe Yard Locomotives, GP38-2 Yard Locomotives, AlCo PA1 Locomotives, and even some (Fantasy) reproduction Baldwin Sharknose Locomotives. The line would have a passenger route from Barstow, CA to Pensacola, FL while sharing freight lines on the same route with transfer yards in San Diego, CA and Mobile, AL. Three major yards would include Barstow, CA, Pearl, MS, and Pensacola, FL. There would be subdivision off the mainline. But I discovered this railroad 8 months after coming up with it.
Very cool!
Hello Thomas, a beautiful Christmas train, thank you for sharing. Unfortunately, things don't always go so peacefully. Yesterday evening, December 20th, 2024, at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, a scene where a person drove into people with his car and so far five people have lost their lives and 200 have been injured, some seriously. I don't know what goes on in such people's minds. I wish you a peaceful and contemplative Christmas. Best wishes, Wolfgang
I saw that horrible tragedy on the news here. As you know, we have many similar situations in this country every day with guns. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Awesome. Merry Christmas🎄
Merry Christmas to you too!
