John Deere LA 115 - Bogs Down/Won't Start - Free, Easy Fix, Maintenance
John Deere mower would run for a little bit and then bog down. Couldn't get it to start back up. I thought it was a fuel line, fuel filter, or a carburetor problem. It wasn't. But it was a free easy fix. It was an issue with the gas cap!

    great video...I had similar problem on my JD mower deck. I used what I had at the time I put a 2" 3/8 bolt in the hole from the welded bolt from underneath with washers and found that lock washers fit where the bushing should be and used 3 of them for the spacer, then topped with another washer, lock washer and nut, so far so good!

    Purchased this to replace a guide pulley ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxO9seYZjlnuP5UvMkb7osQW3WxPVeSnPk on our John Deere x304 snowblower. As I stated in the title, it is just about perfect. The stock pulley has a spacer at the bottom. I used four washers to emulate said spacer, and it works perfectly now. Great product, and great price especially if compared to typical JD prices.

    I took a grinder and took of the bolt. But now the entire surface is flat with nowhere for. Bolt. Do I need to drill a new hole?

    • @TheCchilly
      @TheCchilly Рік тому

      There should be a hole. You may have ground the bottom of the bolt into the bracket. You may be able either pop it out of drill it out. If not, you would need to drill a hole.

    She stopped the top of my head which isn't very high I've heard that they put a liner inside the fuel line nowadays combats the adverse effects evading ethanol to our fuel. Is there anybody else having a heck of time trying to keep their weed eater running or their gas blower won't even start I'd bring you gas out in mine was black looking and it hit separated into look like water maybe something in with it I know it cleans the heck out of the spark plug it looks like with the fresh fuel but darn you get looks like I get it just the carburetor so now hopefully that'll work I probably use more gas working throttle keeping RPMs up so it wouldn't die! I give a reward if anybody can return my old Sears Craftsman blower to me there was lightweight didn't require a fuel pump or primer bulb etc etc had a compression release inside the engine made it easy to crank first time light years behind what they get nowadays but it was so much better sure I guess you could catch on fire if the float stuck boots 30 years old and I loved it no even if you're the guy who stole it and if you are I need that Hydro power washer back to that was inherited in my gas edger yeah that was special too I think it's just simple stuff that you can find but it was very special to me being partially disabled everything started have a pool of the starter rope now I'm stuck with total junk made out of plastic got to replace the primer bulb every 2 years long the fuel line carburetor parts probably etc etc you have no idea the pain you caused me the money I had to spend to replace it with this garbage and disrespect to the thief yeah that air conditioning unit had a brand new compressor in it that you probably sold for scrap you jerk I will save it for later

    My john deere 115 mower wouldn't start. I had a friend put on a new battery. The gas was flowing in the filter. He put on a new filter. He sprayed ether in and it started but stopped. Today I saw this video and I went down and followed your advice. After a few turns the mower fired right up with full power!! Thank you, thank you thank you. My friend said he'd go order a carburetor and I told him not to do that since gas was flowing. Oh he put on a new spark plus, new air filters, etc. Wow... and I fixed it!

  • @7percentSolution
    @7percentSolution 2 роки тому

    Had the same issue where I changed the fuel filter, got in a good mow, then started bogging down again. Am going to try this. Is the gunked-up fuel tank cap related to the replacement of the fuel filter (if it is, can you explain how?), or do you think that was just coincidental?

    • @johnnybaber1804
      @johnnybaber1804 Рік тому

      The fuel filter which does filter the fuel of contaminants it's really quite small in size so it doesn't take very much gunk Etc you plug it up any fuel cap that is plugged putting a vacuum on the the fuel system can result in you not reaching the carburetor or the engine whether it be gravity fed or pump mechanically. Some systems like your weed eater is pressure is supplied through a separate line from the crankcase to put pressure into the fuel tank which forces the fuel to the carburetor an assistant where there's natural atmospheric pressure that doesn't put a vacuum on the fuel that is in the tank and being pumped or or gravity fed to supply the engine they're for both is the more longer they're running will continue to result in lack of fuel reaching the engine

    • @johnnybaber1804
      @johnnybaber1804 Рік тому

      Yes of that being true if you like me I can't leave my seat up cuz it exposes my fuel cap to the elements like rain water from a sprinkler you know Etc and they don't take much water to stuff affect your filter or in a carburetor Bowl which won't flow through to the engine guess we'll flow through just about anything I guess that's why they don't call it gas they call it fuel nowadays I guess with the add to it does help more sufficient combustion less carbon buildup it does effect of the river perch that are in a fuel system that deteriorate as time goes on with fuel additives and have a make rubber and what they're made of to be compatible with one another I'm not sure what's in the fuel I get now that you did clean my spark plug to where it didn't look black but he wouldn't start until I put an old spark Indian and I don't recommend it it will start and run to play with me trying to clean and file and take the the new spark plug that was not even a season old would not I just create a spark not to let the engine run regardless of what I did to it I'm not sure if it's the ignition system getting weaker or what but I blame it on the fuel and maybe the spark plug they say to replace the spark plug in a season I ran my old blower for years without having to replace the spark plug but a lot hasM changed since then it's always something new to learn you won't find me putting one of those three pronged spark plugs into my engine cuz it looks like it broke off part of the head where the threads are in a small piece of metal it made a lot of noise till it finally got expelled or just beat The Smithereens the previous owner said yeah making an unusual noise at replacing spark plug when I pulled the head you can see something before matter was bouncing around inside the combustion chamber and their unit could possibly be a heat coil that was introduced to the head cuz of strip threads that cause the piece of metal to break off from the head being an old shade tree mechanic I'm still learning and yes I do get frustrated when something was running last week and refuses to start and run and get the job done like it did for so many for so many years

    Question to the pulley covers hold the back of the belt from falling off when blade is disengaged? I bought a new belt and testing it keeps coming off. Don't know if I got a bum belt or what.

    • @TheCchilly
      @TheCchilly 3 роки тому

      Yeah, the covers and tension should hold it on. You may have gotten too big of a belt. Even disengaged, the belt should have tension.

    Thanks. This happened to our mower the other day and we were stumped as to what to do. My husband just cut the bolt off with a hacksaw. He is having some ice cream as a much deserved reward.

    • @kcpaull
      @kcpaull 3 роки тому

      We wound up going a slightly different route. We used four 3/8"id Lock washers and gently tapped them inside the center of the new idler pulley. It made for a snug fit for the 3/8" bolt. The hardest part was getting the nut on the threads as I was trying to do it blind. My husband son got the mower deck reattached to the tractor this afternoon. It is a lot quieter and is cutting much better than before. I'm surprised it cut at all before the pulley flew off as the bearings were completely melted. It's doing great now. Than you so much for this video!

      Mine too. My efforts with going from the top down approach didn't workout so well. I'm not sure if these bearings are supposed to be squeezed this way. Some are sensitive to the side pressure is on. I wonder how this has worked out for him using the hose. Mine was red hot in the very center inside race.

  • @williama2219

    After cutting & grinding off the bent bolt, I did this fix using JD parts. As another poster indicated, there's a bushing that fits the JD idler. There's also a 10mm bolt & cap lock that is a perfect fit inside the bushing, and is used in other applications of the pulley. Easy replacement with these parts once you get the offending welded bolt cut off the bracket. Parts list: Idler: GY22082. ($13) Bushing: M71682. ($5) M10 Flangelock: 14M7400. ($2) M10x40: 19M7804. ($3) M10 5x30 washer (2): 24M7178. ($1.50)

    That same pulley on mine is leaning forward a little so it's not perpendicular. I have a vibration in the deck when I engage the blades, I'm wondering if that leaning Idler Pulley could cause that? I have replaced both Idler Pulleys and belt, still vibrates. seems worse when deck cutting height is set higher.
