@swedreamhack5308, if this game would be happening in early stages of this tournament, then Sweden would be a clear favourite against Finland. But Sweden seems to somehow soften in the play-off stages in these junior tournaments, and Finland has often played its strongest games in the semifinals and finals. Finland also probably has a goalie advantage. But when we count together the skills of each player, then Sweden is ahead. If it will be a game of open doors and lots of goals, Sweden will prevail. But a very tightly defesend game with lots of physical action will rise the shares of Finland.

For real. Canadian fans had them as the favorites going into the tourney. You can see all the prediction videos and comments that are already out there. Now it's because "we didn't send our best". They were clearly good enough for all of them to have them as their favorites before the tourney...

Yeah, Czechia is back on top and Switzerland, Germany, Slovakia and Latvia are right behind. I'd say it's big six + challenger 4 nowadays.

There lies the problem. Canadians - players AND fans - keep thinking the WJC uses NHL rules, when we know this is not the case.

It’s insane. They called the tournament as the IIHF always does. Our coaching was shit, our team selection was horrible, and we deserved to lose. You can’t keep kneeing people when it’s clear they are calling kneeing. Just dumb

Yeah, the refs along with "if we sent our best!". I think I've heard both of these excuses at least a dozen times now in my 34 years. Musty was snubbed from the US team and Badinka snubbed by Czechia. It happens every single year with every single country. Canada isn't the only country that snubs players that should have made their team, but their snubs get amplified every single time. It's a new era. Canada is no longer the favorites just because they are Canada. If you really look into the numbers you would see the rest of the world has caught up. And as of right now... the US is the CLEAR top dog.

@@Remmy0930 What bothers me about the "if we sent our best" argument is we've won gold at this tournament without sending our best in the past (see: 2018 and 2020). We didn't need them then. We shouldn't have needed them now. And the senior men's team almost never has their best at the World Championship. They haven't missed a semifinal since 2014.

The 2016 USA Juniors didn't select Kyle Connor and Conor Garland upfront and John Marino on D and Brian Daccord as one of the Goalies. They also lost Noah Hanifin, Jack Eichel and Dylan Larkin to the NHL in 2015-16. Yet they still beat Canada in the 2015-16 WJC.

When you take that many penalties, the problem becomes you. Plus, Canadian players and fans alike seem to think the WJC uses the NHL rulebook, which has never been the case.

As a fellow Swede I couldn't agree more. My thought process when checking the semis: Oh yes, not the Czechs Oh yes, not the US ... Who's left? ... Oh no... 😅 Still on paper the easiest opponent but it'll be tough.

As a Finn, yeah exactly. We can play like shit and just barely make it to QF, win that game and go all the way. But somehow we always end up against Sweden :D I have a good feeling for tomorrow but let's see. Lycka till!

finland is a 'gameplan' team, they go into the these games well scouted. i do think sweden has another gear with the puck that finland hasnt shown. but finland has the better goaltender.

@@tvojemanka, the reason for that defensive attitude is simple: we Finns just don't have a big amount of star players. Both in junior and senior tournaments the skill level of the Finnish team is usually 4th - 6th. Canada, Sweden, the U.S., Czech are usually ahead of us on the paper, and Russia belongs to that group, too, when it will end its aggression in Ukraine. So we have to compensate our lacking skills by the tight co-operation between those five players on the ice. Sometimes like in 2019 we might end winning the title, although most of the members of our team in that year were pretty mediocre players. But they created a great team.

What is big 4? I’m honestly asking what countries are in it 🫣 I’d say Czechia is part of big 6, as they have been always. Sweden, USA, Canada, Finland, technically still Russia and Czechia 🧐

Eh, not quite. According to the IIHF ranking, they are in the top four. But the USA is also in 5th and Switzerland is in 3d in that ranking so…

Not a problem with the refs, IIHF has been soft because they need to protect these teenagers and young men and women The kneeing in the first period was a 2 min and the one in the 3rd period should have been a 5 McKenna sold his hit, if they called it a pen he was possibly in line for embellishment too which they were very consistent about today

​@@USALLTHEWAYExactly, canadians are used to NHL rules, but they gotta realize that IIHF overall is softer to protect players from getting injured so they can continue playing in the NHL. In the juniors it's even more prevalent, since those are young prospects, and you absolutely don't want them to suffer season-ending injuries

To be fair, Canada outplayed the US in just about every aspect of the game minus the number of penalties they took. If they clean that up I see no reason why they can't win!

I personally feel that a Canada vs USA game should be called a certain way, very similar to that of a NHL Stanley Cup Final game where you come to expect the physicality and rough stuff after whistles. The Leonard penalty, the Rehkopf goaltender interference on the icing call, the Hensler hold, the Dickinson Hold along the boards where he ran into the ref, the delay of game to even out the Pinelli penalty, the Perreault slash, plus the circus at the end where they couldn't decide between 5v5 or 4v4. I get that the refs are trying to control it but I draw problems when they are searching, and I mean searching for penalties in these games especially in tight one's like this. As I had mentioned in the video though, Canada did NOT lose this game because of the refs, their play was awful all night and the US earned the win.

Good luck to you as well! With what we've seen from Canada so far in this tournament I'm not at all confident in their chances. It wouldn't surprise me if Canada wins but I also wouldn't be surprised to see them lose. I'm with you though about a Sweden vs USA Final!

Completely agree! For me it's almost a reverse process where Canada and the US haven't looked great, Finland has lost to Canada, Czechia lost to Sweden and the rest of the teams I don't see competing for gold leaving the Swedes for gold. Given my record with predictions for this tournament, don't be surprised when Latvia wins in the QFs :)

Latvia has really impressed me so far as a fairly underaged nation in this tournament! Really hoping to see them upset Sweden, especially after the tournament they've had! Regardless, they should be very proud of their efforts this far!

​@onthefly1515 refs aren't going to reward Canada's lack of discipline by swallowing the whistle. I do agree 🇨🇦 seems to be getting worse as the tourney progresses.

​@@tallesttreeintheforest I agree that the team isn't built right but I have to disagree with the part on the players not playing that way. In my eyes, the entire game was played that chippy way (Or at least they tried to). Even looking back on it the next day I still get the feeling the refs weren't well briefed on the rivalry between Canada and the US as the last few matchups the refs have let the majority of that go. Maybe it's the old-school hockey fan in me but I feel like the refs tried to influence this one too much to the point where it was excessive.

In my eyes they were the #5 team coming in with a tough QF matchup against what was to be Finland which I believed they would lose, now they seem to be the only team that has been playing well which is why I’m labelling them as a “dark horse” for this tournament to win gold!

I’d have to agree! Even though Latvia played a good game, I think it was a reminder that Latvia has to continue playing perfect games in order to beat the best teams at this tournament! Rooting for you guys in this one!
