    Useful and effective but as one commented earlier, the downside is that you still have to get under the vehicle to change the filter and drain plug gasket so might as well do both while you at it. But I see this pump being useful for sucking up steering fluid or any other component that doesn’t require changing filters.

    I'm curious, which do you find easier to use and less prone error for radial holes, a rotary table or a DRO?

  • @themazamen
    @themazamen 3 місяці тому

    Just discovered your channel. I love your Elmers projects. For radius on non critical parts, you should try making a set of filing buttons. The radius goes much faster than setting up a rotary tool and cutter, especially when the part is brass.

      Actually just saw your later episode where you mention that you used filing buttons for some of the radius work.

    It really is a time saver. Some vehicles have those plastic shields over complicated! Then some have the oil filter in an idiotic place like behind a panel in the wheel well. You might see that on some Japanese vehicles. Why they put it there is a mystery to me!! Maybe it is just a secret way of telling everyone they hate them!

    Was your engine warm or cold? Warm is best. I see you can't use the pump for gasoline. Not sure why because they both are petroleum products. Do you have any idea for using it for gasoline?

    Year 2024. Just bought one for $40 something. Box says bends up to 20 GA steel. (Not 16!) Bending .025 inch aluminum works OK.

    Nice Review & Test !!! I would have liked to have seen some bends with lighter gauge sheets to learn the TRUE capacity of this Brake to give a nice, tight 90 - what the max ideal would be for this $40 Brake.

      Some cars oil filter is on top the engine. Only one of my vehicles is. But I still use this vs dragging drain pans under the car. I also use it on mowers and small engines. Use it on transmissions and differentials…brake reservoirs. It’s a great tool even if not used for oil changes

    Even with the top access oil filters, don't you have any spillage? Also, why not use the oil fill tube vs. the dipstick tube?

    Per the instructions only a maximum of 16 gauge aluminum and 18 gauge sheet steel should be used. He’s exceeding the maximum by trying to use 16 gauge steel.

    I've used this with great results but it's really best for thin aluminum, like a notch above flashing. Also, if you're trying to bend harder aluminum, even thin, remember that it has a grain. Try bending in both directions on a sample. Generally it will bend easier if the bend is in line with the length of the original sheet it came from at the mill.

    Obviously too late now but the easy way to do these is to use a 4 jaw chuck. The jaws fit perfectly into the gaps between the spokes.

  • @erroneus00

    Wow. You went a lot further than I would have gone with it. 1. Needs to be mounted to steel table. 2. Does not do 18 gauge steel... at least not one as wide as the brake itself. You figured something would have broke? DUDE! Your video could EASILY have been blocked if you filmed your injury which could have been VERY ugly if you did. (glad you weren't hurt honestly but I was actually afraid!) The use of the adjustable wrenches was a step too far in my opinion and I'm sure other commenters agree -- haven't read any other commenters. The use of the added C-clamps was a good idea so if I decide to pick one up, I will take into account ALL of these factors... lighter material, mounting better and no safety risks.

  • @jeffkeahey410
    @jeffkeahey410 Рік тому

    While I appreciate the information I feel like you could have done the entire video in 1 minute and why try to bend an 18 gauge piece of steel when you said you bought it to do a small job using aluminum? Some UA-cam guys just try to hard to put up content. If you want better feedback try condensing you video and don’t waste so much time trying to figure out what to say next. I’m not being harsh, I’d subscribe and like your videos but every time I watch one I’m waiting and waiting to see what I clicked on the video for. Sorry man.

    You did a good job making the attachment. It really looks nice. I was thinking, not being critical, but I was trying to see how many times it takes to get it centered right on. Practice always makes better. You would hope that if you start with a with a good eyeball first, that can you get it on center taking the measurement twice and then the third verifies it's centered. Now I'll go back and count. You did X and then did Y. I wonder if you did X and Y together the first time and then again, if it would have been quicker. I'd have to sketch it out and write everything down then move it. Most of the time you would be trying to line up on a hole or bore and here you had an OD. An edge finder couldn't do an ID easily which makes the zero set even more important. I wonder what's considered the fastest way of lining up without the help of a CNC or computer. This may be it.
