Do you know what the cove is
Yes sir are you talking about the pizza place out there close to the lake?
@@southgasportsman20 yes
Yes sir very familiar with it, how come?
If you came here because I had the same question! “ if you can’t get the charging handle out”, you need to pull it as hard as you can straight out towards you”, or take pliers with a nice cloth so you don’t scratch it!, And pull it straight out🤙👍🏽 I have the 28 gauge model Very rare shotgun !! got it from my father and I just now I’m cleaning it after like 50 something years it still has the factory lube on it😳😂..
Haha wow! Thanks for the info! Good to know! Yep it’s forced in by a small retaining ball.
Warmouth are my current fishing obsession 😂😂😂 I love catching these guys and if you fish with 1.5-2 inch lures you can catch them and bass together. They hide and ambush from the same places and they’ll go after the same size stuff surprisingly.
@@CarolinaReaperr They are definitely fun!

They are Redleg stencils
Thank you for the help!

What river ya in
The Satilla
Good eating right there 👍👍👍
For sure!!
Where on the Satilla is that, I'm near Atkison and Hortense.
I was more west of hortense. It’s still several hours for me to drive ha
Looks like y'all had a good time.
It was fun! You should go with us some time!
That looks like the exact spot my uncle Larry and I go to on the Flint River in Elora TN
Cool! No sir we are down in Georgia at this spot. Sure can’t beat creek fishing
Does this apply to the Remington model 11 as well?
Not that I am aware of. I own a model 11 and do not recall it being an identical system to this. However, the Remington would still have the action spring and recoil spring that could wear out and need changing over time
@southgasportsman20 Ok, thanks, I just bought a Remington model 11. I'm trying to learn how to check it out and make sure it's good to go
@Smooththatsme Nice! You will enjoy it. A few things: Make sure the foreend cap is always on tight so the recoil won’t slam and crack the foreend too bad. And double check those springs and you’ll be good to go! I love all of my old a5 recoil style guns
Great vid, short and to the point!
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed!
My step dad took us canoeing here growing up ❤ so nostalgic. And that will be an interesting book that I will have to read ! Thank you for sharing 🙏
Cool! No problem, glad you enjoyed!
Beautiful
Thank you!
I paddled an old, Old Town wooden canoe from Fargo GA where the Suwannee River exits the Okefenokee to the Gulf of Mexico in 1954 when I was 10 years old. An adventure of a lifetime. Love that country. Thanks for posting, brings back great memories.
Thank you for your comment! It was definitely a great experience. I really hope to get back and do it in the fall when the weather is nice. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Go ahead... hate me. I'm from south Georgia. I live in the woods. I'm not liberal... and a lot of things I can understand hunting for, even though I don't hunt myself... most of my family does. But I do not understand hunting bobcats. Why? And I absolutely am against traps. I feel that they are not humane. I'm not an activist, just a concerned citizen who cares deeply for wild life and domestic animals alike. Perhaps there is something I just do not know.
I value your opinion 100%. Our game-bird population is struggling. Turkeys and other ground nesting birds such as bobwhite quail are struggling to say the least. This is largely due to habitat loss. However, predators do play a part in this. Animals such as bobcats, coyotes, and fox eat the young birds and eggs, and nest predators such as opossum and raccoons also feast on the eggs. They can bust up an entire nest. The traps aide in controlling these populations. I can assure you the traps don’t cause any pain. In fact I have purposely put my hand in these traps to show others they do not hurt. The traps portrayed in movies which cause pain are grizzly bear traps and they have teeth and have long been banned. These newer models are referred to as offset jaw traps and they have a gap in there that does not allow complete closure on the foot. If you have any other questions I would be happy to answer. Thanks again for your comment!
@@southgasportsman20 coyotes, I completely understand are an issue. Living out very rural, I see and hear them all the time. My dogs have chased them off many times. I know they prey on deer fawns and other native wildlife species... they have no natural predator where I live. Hunting them is necessary for many reasons. However, bobcats are rarely even seen. I've seen maybe 2 in the area I live in and I have lived here for 10 years. Fox... pretty much the same as bobcats. I keep chickens... if there were a big issue with them, I'd be one of the ones to shoot them, for obvious reasons. But that has not been the case ever. There is a fox that hangs around my property, it's a female fox and she seems to prefer to give birth around my house. I hear her and her kits. None of these animals has posed a threat to my animals, including my chickens and pigeons. What I do have an issue with is possum. They eat the heads off my chickens... leave the rest. And I do have to shoot them for that reason. I don't like the idea of killing any animal that I am not going to eat. Not even for fur. But I do realize that once some animals discover a food source, like possum, they don't stop and they don't just go away. And I also realize that my particular situation and observation may not be the one others see. However, I will never see native animals as a huge issue. I think it is mostly the coyotes doing most of what you are seeing with the birds. I can remember when they were not here and there was no issue with numbers of nesting birds. By the way, I rescued a mourning dove 5 years ago. My dog brought it up one night as a fledgling that apparently got pushed or fell out of it's nest. It could not fly and could not feed itself. I still have him! Best pet bird I ever had! Yes, I know people hunt them. But this little guy is an awesome bird pet! I did try to set him free when he could feed himself, but he didn't want to go. So he lives on my back porch (screened in back porch). He's happy and healthy. I respect hunting. I grew up in a family of hunters. But when animals come onto my property, it's like they know they are safe from that... as long as they don't mess with my chickens, my cat and my dogs. I had one cat that was taken by an owl even. I have a lot of predatory birds around. Hawks and falcons nesting even. But they all serve a purpose in the balance of our system. My chickens can't free range because of them. They get my snakes and mice. Squirrels too I suppose. Balance is key, I do know that. I figured that there had to be a reason. But I do not think bobcats and fox are the primary issue. Usually, decreased numbers are a result of invasives and loss of habitat. Florida is very messed up now for those reasons. As far as the traps go... still not fond of that method. My dogs rarely get out and roam too much, but they have gotten out before. I'd hate if they got caught up in one and became a meal because they were trapped. One of my fears. I have gators around also. Swampy land where I live. Dang sorry I wrote so much! LOL! My southern is showing I think.
@@southgasportsman20 one other thing that needs to be considered... our lack of the Red Wolf. The true Red Wolf... not the coyote hybrid. We're suppose to have a wolf ... and that may be why some of the other animals that are not native are taking a hold here.
So your chaging handle magically came out?????
The charging handle came out from the increased force applied when everything was out of sync. The action spring plug was broken and impeding the action spring from working appropriately
Is it safe to shoot steel shot using this gun with a modified choke? 1956 mfg date
Forgive me on my earlier comment. I was thinking you had asked under my video of the Browning Auto 5. With these Remingtons, I do not shoot steel bc I’ve heard these gun barrels were not proofed for steel either. Having said that, I do have friends that have shot a lot of steel through the Remington 1100’s with no issues. But there is always a chance you will scar up your barrel with steel
@@southgasportsman20 heard about the Modified choke getting budgy and possible other damage
Yes sir sounds like it could definitely happen but I’m not 100% sure. I’ve just avoided it myself
How do you tell what year it was made, what's it worth? I inherited one just like it.
There is a date code online. Search browning auto 5 serial number formula. The serial # will be just above where you slide the shell in on bottom of receiver
Thanx a bunch!✌️🇺🇲

Question from an uneducated trout fisherman, if these are stocked fish my understanding is they won’t make it to next season. Why release them? That’s a legit question not a dig. Great video!
They can definitely die off and not make it, but we choose to let go the big ones just because we don’t eat them. At least gives the next person a chance at the catch
great video very appreciated
Thank you, glad you enjoyed!
Let the real big ones go
Perfect video for a first time browning owner
Glad you enjoyed. Thank you for watching!
South ga lol right on
Yes sir!
Your gunsmith is a total stupid fu+k. First thing to check action spring and Recoil spring As old as the 1148 are, it's mandatory that you replace both springs.
Keep them coming Cory love it
Is this the spring from Midwest gunworks?
Yes it is!
amen.
Mine cycles in the heavy load configuration all loads I put in it bird to buck to BP red shock slugs!? Amazing weapon 👏 JMB ❤
Awesome! That means your recoil spring is still in tip-top shape. By leaving it like that it will fatigue your gun much less. When it starts jamming some on light loads, you will know it’s time to configure it for light loads. Thanks for the comment!!
Man I really appreciate the video. I have my granddads old A5 and have no idea what it is set up for and also not sure how to set it up. Now I know. Do I need to change anything when shooting 2-3/4" shells vs. 3" shells? I have only ever shot 3" shells through it. Thank you again.
No problem! If you have been shooting 3” shells you would have to have a magnum Auto 5. From what I am told, it will cycle the 2.75” shells also but maybe not as efficiently as the 3”? Let me know how it does for you. The only method I know of for adjusting these guns is by swapping around the rings like I explained in this video. Thanks for the comment and keep that old girl shooting!
Nice wood
For sure!
Saint John Moses Browning was a genius…love the A5 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻…great information for those not familiar with the shotgun and it’s setup 👍👍👍
I agree, thank you!!
Better watch for wasps nests in overhanging trees. Take wasp spray!
Great info. I've inherited a 1953 A5 and I'll check that spring while I have it apart for cleaning. It was assembled for heavy loads, so I'll keep that setup for now.
Sounds great, congrats on your “new” shotgun! Doesn’t get any nicer than these A5’s
Where did you put in?
I can’t exactly remember but it wasn’t too far from Minnie’s
hey, is it possible to get a copy of the note or can you download it somewhere?
I got it from Midwest Gun Supply in a kit. I haven’t found a place to download it anywhere
Brother, Is 1oz loads considered light and 1&1/8oz heavy for a 1987 Sweet 16? Thanks!
Pay more attention to the FPS in these. The 3 1/8 dr powder in these shells is normally 1 1/8 oz and 1300 FPS. I would call those heavy. The 1 oz 1165 FPS would be what I would call light in the 16 gauge.
Thanks Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!
