5:46 actualy its not, there is an upgrade where your spider can crush enemies hee walks on upon, thats the killer.
Great episode...
Orienting Create blocks has to be the most obnoxious thing about the whole mod and to this day from a design standpoint I'm still convinced they programmed it to behave so poorly on purpose. 1/50 chance of machine frame failing to craft. It's like winning the reverse lottery. Invar is another alloy you can hand mix in powder form. Actually in this pack I think most of the alloys have powder recipes. Careful, the "block of raw X" is not a silktouched ore block. It's just a 3x3 compressed block of the raw ore. Hence why raw ore processes into 2 while block of raw ore makes 18. Mekanism ore processing is a lot of work in order to maximize your yield, and also involves generating a chemical you have to pump into the purification chamber. And it used to be worse in past editions too, requiring I think 5 steps and not just 3. Worth it in most modpacks, but in this one you can just set up an Alchemistry dissolver & compactor stacked with a couple of chutes to easily double your ore. Also note you have access to technological mining tools now, like the fluxbore or mining gadget and the flux capacitor to keep inventory items charged. The mining gadget is a chunk-clearing beast when fully upgraded but said upgrades are expensive and it's kind of lackluster without them since it's incompatible with ultimine. A pocket storage is also handy for mining to keep common blocks from clogging up the inventory. It's the replacement for /dev/null, except it doesn't directly place blocks. It's not too expensive to upgade to tier 3, which gives it 32 slots and holds up to 64K items per slot. Mekanism has a carbon-efficient way to manufacture steel in bulk using an enrichment chamber and metallurgic infuser. The enrichment chamber will turn 1 charcoal into 1 enriched carbon, which is worth 8x coal in the infuser. Iron has to be run through the infuser twice before it becomes steel, so effectively 1 charcoal makes 4 steel instead of 4 coal to 1 steel. if you plan to use Mekanism's energized smelter for smelting, just... make sure you have 4x Mekanism muffling upgrades ready, or access to a sound muffler mod.
Did not expect brand new biomes that quickly just from going down tbh. Which ofc makes me wonder if some reasources are locked depending on your path. One thing I like about this game that I think Dome Keeper lacks, it's just the variety of items from the get go. So far we've seen at least one new item every run. That and the fact that each item has felt somewhat good too. (Well, maybe not the bomb.) I'm glad that YT recommended this to me. :) Started watching your Scars Above playlist too. Keep up the awesomeness!
Good grind. Solid progress
First off...the Spell Blade gets Mana faster then the Black Mage? That shouldn't be right. FIRE 2, yes for Peninsula of Power, which you could actually handle in one or two levels. I was going to be the lone vote for CONF until someone mentioned the Staff that will give the spell anyway. Poaching: first all monsters in a family will poach the same thing if they're coded as poachable. So all slimes should poach gels as you saw. In general it looked like all undead could poach ash, so that could be handy. The Iguana is found outside of the second town (where you get the ship). The Scorpions are actually found within the Marsh Cave, so stock up on the other item to make the arrows before heading inside. You'll start seeing the Hyena family in the Earth Cave unless you use your Archer to avoid the trap tiles. I don't recall if you've done so yet, but maybe check the Elf Castle and Dwarf Cave for traveling Swordspeople. Maybe you get a free sword each time?
Maybe go LIT2 to hit wizard weakness…and yeah definitely FAST
Fast
The update now gives the Archer a strong HP up at level 2 like everybody else, but unfortunately it's not retroactive on existing saves. I think that was the only change they actually made to his HP, but it was enough that he doesn't get left behind by mage classes (except maybe the HP balloon that is green). FAST does work and it's the only way for the Archer to multi-hit, or at least it did in 2.1. I haven't tested it in 2.1.2 yet since I deleted my old save with an Archer to start fresh. You'll get the Wizard staff eventually for casting confusion, but no item provides haste effects. You're going to have a hard choice to make with the Xcaliber later on. Your party composition actually gives you two more options over and above just having Shine wield it. The latter may actually be the least effective choice, in fact.
Hmm, just curious but is there anything downwards? So far we're only going up. :)
You know. I don't know. I'll check that out next episode. ^^
Well done on 2nd run
Thank you. ^^
One thing I've noticed that might make things easier for you is when mining ( Unlike in Dome Keeper ) it actually slows you if you are pressed right against the rock. The Laser works better if you are 1/2 to 1 tile gap from the rock you are trying to mine, ( until you get some ludicrous upgrade/ gadget that boosts it , like the tether from the previous part/episode where it bugged you when 2 was used). Also the Bismuth rock ( as you call it seems to be quite valuable to mine for your permanent upgrades of the spider ) .
Oh? I'll have to give that a test run.
when healing its best to get at least the 1st healing upgrade so youll loose less resources later
Now that I am more able to get to those things and not limp to them. Yeah, you're right on that.
you realy should invest in drill strengh first
Understood.
you dont have to fight stationery - you can and should move to speed the way to the next mine
You're right, I should shake off the dome keeper fighting tactics. XD
I found a new recipe! Sorry, Final fantasy xv reference......
Hahaha Awesome.
best tactic is to first clear the cave then go back and forth collecting
Oh! Okay, I think I understand.
You can run a recipe sequence with a single deployer by adding each material to the hand in turn, then you can throw the partially-complete item by hand onto a saw. It's very manual and you have to run the whole sequence 4x to complete one machine frame, but you only need to make one of them that way if you plan to use the induction smelter after that. An enrichment chamber would be a good choice for your 2nd Mekanism machine since it'll save on a lot of redstone/diamonds for the metallurgic infuser. Just remember that it octuples them so you'll need to craft in batches to not end up with leftovers in the infuser's buffer. Mekanism machines can be broken and re-placed without losing their contents if you need to swap them out in front of the heat generator, but as soon as you put a single speed or factory tier upgrade into them, they'll start to overwhelm the tiny energy buffer in the generator. A basic energy cube and some basic universal cables should be well within your grasp at this point, and that'll give you a bigger power buffer while allowing you to connect up all the generators and machines you need. The energy cube also accepts items for charging so you can put your generators out of the way.
Yeah, I plan on doing that, it'll be a pain, but doing it once is all I hope to need to do. Enrichment chamber? Got it. I'll also try to keep it in mind about the octupltion. XD Oh? Energy cube and universal cables. I'll look into those ASAP then.
loved how Chaos used the Cure4 spell and then by the end of the turn you blew him away to his destruction. looks like an only dancer party is quite powerful
Yeah, though having only three helps with the levels and making sure each gets a ribbon. Which, does make a difference.
Almost finished! 🎉
YUP! And we get to see this last boss fight... I think.
The hand crank. For when you want to hold a button all day
Hehe, yup. For those times where you have time to just watch a crank spin. XD
That was just brutal
Ladders for the chicken coop
Very good point. Next episode for sure.
Good try :)
Thank you. Though it did feel bad, thank you.
The melter in question is the seared one from the Tinker's Construct mod that you already made (along with the seared heater) to get your smeltery up and running. It's capable of melting hand-made brass dust and pouring it directly into a Create spout via faucet. Using it this way just lets you skip using a smeltery and the pump+pipes to get brass in there.
OOH okay, I get it now. I can set that up without moving the dripper thing I think. But also that allows me to not have to worry about other sheit that is tied to the big smelter.
Awesome episode...keep em coming :)
Thank you! And I will try to do so. ^^
I really enjoy this one
I'm glad~!
Found your dome keeper vids yesterday, I enjoy listening to your chill voice so I subbed. Looking forward to more of your content!
Heh, thank you so much for your kind words. I hope my rage moments don't spoil that chill voice vibe for you, but either way, I hope you do enjoy my content, going forward or if you look into my past catalog. ^^
Too many controls for a game. 😅
Oh yeah, this is boarding on the insane level of controls for me too.
It is interesting the amount of science fiction that is either claiming to be looking for God or looking to become God.
It was something I did dawn on, but it happen so much I don't think a lot of people even notice that trend.
Shift+Rightclick tells the gadget to build with the block you're currently looking at. Ctrl+Shift+Rightclick tells the gadget to bind to the inventory you're looking at, but also to build with the block you're looking at (ie: the inventory block in question). Which is just confusing if you're not expecting it. For whatever reason the bind command doesn't override the select block command. But as you discovered you can just select the correct building block after and it's fine. Also that tiny "X" to the top right of the crafting grid in the simple storage table will clear the grid and send all the items back into the inventory with one click. The igneous extruder can make various stone types but the recipes aren't necessarily intuitive. For example basalt = lava & blue ice on sides, and soul soil underneath. You can look up the extruder recipes in JEI. The utility of this machine is a bit limited with Alchemistry in the pack, since the Combiner accomplishes something similar.
OH! That's why I had an issue finding the right usages of the controls. Okay, got it [CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[R-CLICK] and I don't have to make this weird roundabout why again. I'll look closer for that tiny [X] above the crafting grid. Oh? I'll VERY much look into the extruder within the game now. Just gotta figure out how... I think I've got a way. It may be limited, but basalt alone could be good to have building up.
You had me @ dome keeper only sideways... 😃
Haha, well it does have some differences but not in a bad way. ^^
Yeah if your Create pipe system is left with an open end anywhere while it's active, it'll give you that spraying animation and void the fluid. The quick & dirty way to fill a Create Spout is to just set up a Tinker's Melter above it with the faucet directly above the Spout. And although the Melter can't create alloys, brass is one of the alloys that can be made by hand from the constituent metal dusts.
Tinker's Melter? I'll look into that, so I can not worry about wasting ingots. Oh? I didn't know brass could be dust mixed. Maybe it is dusts that I can't make yet? In episode 18 I'll look into that.
Yeah, the dusts should be available via the Alchemistry compactor from their respective element.
I see the similarities. But this one seems to be designed with more backstory to discover.
Yeah, I feel the lore part of my brain will deeply love digging into all the caves just to find out more about this wall world.
Long, but awesome
Well, poops it out huh? Lol
will have to save the rest for later...off to work :(
I hope that it was a good episode when you got to see it in full. ^^
This game is oddly satisfying... Me likey. If you get that generator again you need to mine closer to the spider so your delivery runs are shorter.
Yeah, I got pretty stuck on the loot goblin mode of my brain. I agree about the oddly satisfying part of this game. ^^
Note if you bind the building gadget inventory to your cobblestone drawer, you don't have to carry any cobble on you as long as you're in the same dimension and the chunk the drawer is in is loaded. Or if you bind it to a drawer controller it can access all the drawers you attach to that controller. It can also pull materials from a Pocket Storage (the replacement for /dev/null in this pack) The three water wheels running at max output should give your setup 768su to play with, which is enough to run multiple machines at a moderate speed. I don't recall what the upper limit is, but you can also run more than three water wheels on the same line if you want to.
In the 17th episode (As I have already made the 16th one) I'll try to figure out how to bind the building gadget to the drawer. Last time I tried it... just tried using the drawer itself. Yup, I think I'll test out 6 water wheels. Might as well go a little crazy.
Yeah there's a bit of an oversight with the default key bindings but it still works. Since the bind inventory key combo also includes shift by default, it both binds to the drawer and selects the drawer as the block type to be placed. You can just re-select an ordinary cobble block as the block to be placed right afterward and leave the tool bound to the drawer.
Yeah, hunters seem to be glass cannons
A bit more than other classes I've seen so far for this game.
Well, blaze is definitely something....
Yeaaahh, I... could have bypassed that whole thing. I just didn't think to look in the chem stuff for the answer. : /
Not sure when you started this run, but there's a recent update for FF:R to buff Hunter HP in earlier levels. Having finished a run-through with Spellblade and Hunter, I found them both underwhelming to the other classes. Hunters/Rangers limit is severely lacking and should just be a skill. If they were going to change it's limit, maybe have it to guarantee arrow materials from all on screen enemies and killed by anyone? I dunno. Just didnt care for it. Spellblade is good but requires a lot of ramping up and by the time they can do their big great damage, the enemies could've been killed already.
The next episode I will make sure to be on the latest build of the game. That's fair. I'm expecting the same outcome. There is a few party make ups that can actually support that from what I've seen. A summoner, for example, also requires a few turns to get a solid hit in.
The hunter's HP mechanic seems to be that it's consistently every other level, whereas other classes start off strong early level and then taper off at later levels. So it's not bad if you're talking in terms of the long run, but then how often do parties level to 40-50? That and it's just so off-brand that they don't get lvl2 as a freebie like everyone else. The mage's name sounding like SARS is going to be so much more apropos once he gets BANE. The 120/360% thing is because AIM can be stacked up to 3x. It's just showing you what your current bonus is out of 360%. Yeah the wandering swordsman does that. Expect to receive a handful of free weapons until eventually he [Redacted]. Scarves? Man in tights? Checks out.
It's cool cause there are many elemental weapons but he can make the weapons elementally imbued
Understood. Haha, Yeah, Mc Sarz is going to be the end all once bane is in his list of spells. I think I'm understanding AIM more. XD Fair fair. XD Maybe I should have named the hunter robin instead of Aine.
Oh? The new classes are finally here? I guess I'll need to go try them out. Mystic Knight is my fav FF class.
Best of luck! I hope you enjoy them. ^^
Lots of good work accomplished
I think the logic behind burning netherrack being hotter is that it's technically a higher Minecraft "tech" level than lava. In a normal Minecraft world you can find lava by digging deep enough or right on the surface in places but netherrack requires going to the nether, which itself requires lava for the portal. The fired crucible even works with an ordinary torch under it (heat level 1) but oh boy if you thought 4 heat seems slow... You can get water to flow back under the water wheel by making a channel on the ground around it and basically just giving it a new direction to flow in. Fun fact about alumin(i)um: The chemist to first isolate the element and therefore had discovery rights, decided to name it aluminum. The spelling aluminium was the result of a standards committee in England who insisted that all metallic elements follow the same naming convention, ending in -ium. So they forced the change in England but some other parts of the world did not follow suit.
Whoops. Well at least the magic budget will be affordable this run. Every character in the original game got a strong HP up at level 2 to reflect how it works in oldschool D&D, where characters start out very squishy but their survivability basically doubles on the first level up. To have a character not do that is a complete departure from that design ethos. AIM adds +120% damage per round it's held, so on paper it's better than attacking for two rounds, provided you're hitting something tough enough to justify it. Important note about bows, so you aren't surprised later: They never multi-hit except under the effects of FAST. Instead they gain damage from additional hit% and crit a lot. Even then the Archer's basic damage is going to be pretty meh, but then he gets a disgustingly broken ability after class change that synergizes with melee characters. Literally an "F that guy in particular" move.
Sorry you had to restart, but this looks like a fun team
Great episode as always.... Congrats on the cobalt run ...collecting resources with a time limit is always a pain. You could go for the whole achievement completion along with the challenge mode ?
This party of yours is gonna be so powerful
