Swansea - our city Taliesin Arts Centre, Swansea
Swansea is a town where art is alive. If it became a cultural centre or a resort where art was fashionable and where it was always being discussed but never being created, it would be a town where art was dead... There is no room in Swansea to be pompous without becoming ludicrous, and all the pompous aspects of Swansea are ludicrous; but the town itself, the town of windows between hills and the sea, is unforgettable. What should Swansea become? It should, I think, generate its own species and become what it is now, a town where art is alive. Dylan Thomas
..... and outside of football don't forget Ken Williams!
I actually used to cook Sunday lunch for Mel , John cornforth and gang at bird in hand pontardulais he was always lovely and his daughter was gorgeous 😊😊
Lovely film ,just walked my dog through cwbwrla park , went up Alice street , only fell over one green bag , bin night see
Did i miss something? Did swanseas own Pete Ham not even get a mention?
My son was born in Swansea and I did my Arts degree there. I always felt spiritually connected to the sea scape and city. Love the opening of this film. Am saving it to watch tonight. Well done to all involved. ❤
A very honest and truthful account of what's happening. Swansea is cooking
Can the Taliesin channel do anything with 'The Devil, Big Billy and Sog' or 'Ernest Melville Will Have His Revenge on Swansea' ? two Swansea poems, I'm very proud of them, thought it worth asking ❤
A dyma yn union pam fi wedi dewis aros a byw yn Abertawe - y cariad sy’n llifo or celfeddydau sydd yn neud ein Dinas Mor hardd. And this is exactly why I chose to stay and live my life in Swansea. The love that flows out of the arts is what makes our city so pretty. Thanks so much for producing this lush film
Lovely stuff
Great evening celebrating 40 years of Taliesin Arts Centre. This film showcases new young talent and those who have gone before. Fitting then that Jack Jones- poet songwriter and lead singer of Trapolene should 'begin at the beginning ' in the tiny bedroom where Dylan Thomas wrote 2/3rds of his published work. The birthplace continues to showcase young and emerging talent - poets, writers, musicians, artist through Discovered at Dylan's events
Yep, Swansea has been more than drenched in talent and brilliance. Thankfully we will always try and push those boundaries. Nice to see Richard Mylan and Steve Balsamo.......
Fideo gwych! Diolch am ddefnyddio ein cerddoriaeth!
Such an emotional story of five young Swansea boys who made the big time. One street in one town. Fairy tale come true. I loved it.
William Gammon was my Mothers great uncle! R.I.P. to all the crew that gave their lives to save others on that fatefull night!
Swansea was a virtual conveyor belt of footballing talent after the Second World War. The five referred to being part of that phenomenon.
What a great film, remembering great Welsh footballers who achieved remarkable things during tough times.
Lovely story. But let’s not forget the real people who saved the club in 2001, the ones who really did it and didn’t shout about it.
You are talking about the people who then sold their interests in the Club, and were abused, insulted, and threatened, by Swansea City fans', for having the temerity to sell something that they owned. That abuse is still ongoing, by the way.
@@MOGGS1942 fully aware. yes, I’m talking about those who saved the club before the current issues. That are ongoing. And of course those who were scrubbed out of any recognition by the same people who saved the club. Then quite rightly cashed in.
Sit down to watch a Swansea history lesson and end up with tears in my eyes out of sheer pride, well done all concerned in this production, it was glorious
Thankyou, really enjoyed. My mother grew up in Phyllis Street. Dorothy Furlong. We later lived in Megan St. My mother and father and three daughters ❤
My family moved in to 21 Megan Street in 1946 and lived there until 1956. I knew the Charles family and Mel would join in our street games coming home from training with the Swans. I was so incensed he was sold to Arsenal that I transferred my support to the Gunners!! When John returned from Italy my eldest sister, a qualified teacher and John's contemporary helped teach his children to improve their English. They spoke fluent Italian though! Cwmbwrla Junior School was good for sport and we used Cwmbwrla Park for our football and cricket matches. Mel used to play for Stepney Cricket Club there too and was a very good player. I returned in June and toured my childhood places. It has not changed that much but the Park looks very shabby sadly. Excellent production and I look forward to the next phase.. Should Alice Street be given Welsh Heritage status and certainly blue plaques to mark its remarkable history?
I lived ,and was born in no12 until 1958.
Why were you " so incensed "? Mel wanted to move to a bigger Club, and they didn't come much bigger than The Arsenal. Did you feel the same way when Terry Medwin, and Cliff Jones went to Spurs ? Or when Ivor went to Newcastle ?
Not incensed but very disillusioned and disgusted with the Board of Directors for breaking up a team destined for First Division status. I worked in Newcastle from 77 to 89 and Ivor Allchurch was revered by those who saw him play. A team with 7 Welsh International broken up for greed and no regard for the supporters. @@MOGGS1942
I was born in Megan Street, just 50 yards away from Alice Street,in March 1950.Watching this made me quite emotional.Especially seeing my old school, and Cwmbwrla park again.Wonderful memories of my childhood there. We moved when I was eight to Haverfordwest.
Incredible story beautifully told.
I was lucky enough to see this in the Taliesin and found it immensely moving. Thank you to everyone involved.
Wych, diolch, a great film.

Wow I hat a great vidio brought back so many memories remember collection for the bon fires we worked hard lol ,I live in baptist well place and I love it here
I lived in 21 Baptist Well place Neil from 1972-1984 my Mother was born in the house we lived in loved the quarry the park and being able to walk around knowing all the neighbours and it’s true the elderly people were in their door steps chatting to everyone. Haven’t been back in 30 years not sure if it still has that community feel.
Saw your performance at the Out There Festival 2022. Breathtaking!
Diolch yn fawr! Arbennig!
Great vid dudes, and nice to see my son, Fin, in it as well. (11.43)
This is very very good! A far cry from Twin Town and a much better take on what's now a pretty nifty city. Kudos.
Loved it!! Bravo everybody!
Amazing!!! Thank you so much for having Cai be part of this. He loves it!

This brings to mind totteringbundervthe weight of a tall Welsh hat as a schoolchild at a concert. I made the local paper trying to hold it on by its white ties in a photograph.
Wow thank you. This was fantastic! I feel freer just from watching it.
Wonderful work yet again from CYDC.
this is incredible - well done all!
Sybil Crouch did so much work for the arts in Swansea. "Generous with her time". Condolences to her dear ones. A huge loss.
I know blessing and hi I might be joining on Wednesday
