    Well done, Lee, for sharing, that takes a lot of courage. There is a huge stigma around mental health issues that stops us talking about them, particularly men, particularly men of a certain age. I hope your back gets sorted soon

    Very interesting. I once made some quite comprehensive studies into the 1813 Bavarian Army and may I please supplement. Contemporary sources noted that the horses bought for the 1813 reconstructed cavalry were exceptionally large. So in a wargame context they might be classified as medium cavalry and were also used as that. Tha Austro-Bavarian cavalry actually overran the Imperial Guard artillery at Hanau but were thrown back by a counterattack by Imperial guard cavalry. The Bavarian Army was in no way destroyed at Hanau but pushed aside by the Imperial Guard. A few days after the battle the army was gathered again and invaded France in early 1814 in full strength. Hanau has the potential for an interesting "what if" if you change the intell on the French given to Wrede by Cossaks. They told that the French were in disarray and just stragglers. Wrede deployed in order to catch as many starglers as possible and didn't even bring forward the ammo waggons for his very large Grand Battery in the centre and ran out of ammo in the heat of battle. With correct intell he had the potential to bleed the Guard white and dispose Napoleon already in 1813. The Army at Hanau were not just skeleton formations but full strength batalions and had been properly trained to operate as an Armycorps before leaving Bavaria. The National Guard were operating as bataljons in the Infantry Brigades, usually two pr Brigade and were at least as well trained, motivated and equipped as a contemporary French Infantry bataljon. Although all guns were lost in Russia the army of 1813 nevertheless fielded 10 batteries - 3 6 pdr foot, 3 6 pdr horse and 4 12 pdr foot.

      Hi, thank you for watching our video. The Bavarian army during the Napoleonic wars is a very interesting topic and one that sometimes doesn’t get the recognition. Our short video series only dips a toe into the topics, as we hope it will inspire the viewer to do look at the period for themselves. I agree with you with your Hanau suggestion, it would be good to play a wargame where the commanders of each side were given different intelligence to what the actual commanders had. Thanks for your thoughts and comment on the video 😁👍.

    All the best mate. I had an op in May and took a while recovering. Then had back (muscular) problem think from either lack of use being laid up or maybe covid. The pain moved from back to side to front to other side. Struggled to lay down to sleep and my body locked up in the night and I struggled to get up - two walking sticks. Good news is think I’m getting over it slowly. Hobby has stopped totally due to this that’s why I have been quiet. Thankfully I don’t suffer with mental health issues but think anxiety has caused me other issues. I am trying to get back into my projects so have ordered something I fancy painting to get me going - some more Lord of the Rings to add to my collection. Anyway its good to here things are on the up. Find watching your videos helps me and hope my small input helps you.

    I personally prefer games where the units being moved are the regiments and artillery batteries. I think that dealing with those units gives most of the "flavour" of the period. I also belive it is asking a lot of a gamer to be Lee or Sherman. Bob Bailey in Maine, USA

      @@RobertBailey-y3h It’s a very interesting period to wargame and there’s no right or wrong way to wargame it. I play Pickett’s Charge, which I enjoy playing at the regiment level. I have also played Alter of Freedom, which is set at the army level, both games play very differently and are thought provoking playing them at the levels they were written for. Thanks for watching and your thoughts.

    Well done my friend. We are on a very similar journey. It can be a very lonely experience, like you I am super thankful for my wife and family. Hearing someone else's story can make a huge impact, even if their illness is not a carbon copy of your own. We can spend so much time battling in our own heads, that to hear someone say " that happens to me too", can ease the sense of isolation.

The more we can talk about it, the more we can hopefully understand it and then use our experiences to help others.

    I related to that in a number of ways. You may recall that a few years back I was on antidepressants myself. You were very supportive at the time. Also I used to be a radiographer (a major source of my stress and anxiety). When I began my career radiographers were strictly delineated from radiologists. They were technicians responsible for acquiring images ("x-rays"), scans, and ultrasounds etcetera. They were not allowed to do anything vaguely interventional such as give injections, perform examinations that involved physical insertion of catheters or cannulas into the body and most certainly could not diagnose (though a doctor might often accept an observation from a radiographer based on that person's experience). As the decades went by all that changed and much of the more mundane work was devolved to radiographers who qualified in certain limited areas via a course, often of the briefest and flimsiest duration. As I was hesitant to go down this road it added to my stress and also hampered my career. It is therefore quite possible that a radiographer did report on your CT scan (I know they do so for CTs of the spine in my local hospital) and if they failed to spot your problem then it reinforces my opinion that radiographers should stick to being technicians and not provide radiology on the cheap. What you wouldn't have considered at the time was the possibility that the hospital could "get it wrong" but believe me this is not an uncommon experience. If you are convinced there is a problem, and clearly there was, then the best resource is to purchase a copy of your scan images and take them to a specialist for a second opinion (probably privately). People don't like to pressure NHS staff and also don't often question their judgement, so I absolutely understand why you persisted with the pain but these mistakes arise as much from hospital 'culture' and bad management as they do from lack of funds and resources. Unfortunately it is the staff member who will bear the brunt of any complaint or investigative process rather than the policy makers who put that person into a situation where they were not adequately supported or supervised in the first place.

    • @BattleBunkerHQ
      @BattleBunkerHQ Місяць тому

      Hi Ralph, I do and I hope you are keeping well in yourself. I’ve recently enjoyed watching your Crimean War videos, very inspiring. My understanding on what happened is at the time that I had my CT last year, the radiographer had finished their shift and they sent my scans to Australia for someone to look at. Apparently this is a normal procedure, they had sent back that it was all clear and the doctor I was saw in casualty only followed the report and didn’t cross check it with the scans. So, having a second CT scan recently and they show the issue very clear, the specialist then checked these with the scans from last year and they both show the same issue that I’m suffering from. It was this information I have found difficult to process.

    • @RalphAstley
      @RalphAstley Місяць тому

      @@BattleBunkerHQ It sounds to me that the hospital you went to contracts an outside agency to perform some or all of it's work (another practice I took exception to during my career). I seriously think you should pursue this with your MP because they are likely to discover a string of similar occurrences linked to the same area. Claiming compensation will help you obviously, but it will also permit the hospital to silence the matter and this will result in further incidents in the future. You do need to ascertain however what the role of the radiographer was and what the role of the radiologist was as this now sounds more like a case of outside contracting going wrong rather than a lesser qualified staff member making a mistake.

      Hi, thanks for watching our little video 😁. The original concept came from the lists written by the Perrys for 1st edition Hail Caesar, I think these can still be found on their Facebook page and I think also on Google images. But, with the 2nd edition Hail Caesar, there is a little guide for the later medieval period including the Wars of the Roses. In this section is some unit entries and suggestions for rules changes, that better fits the period.

      Thanks Hamster, the roads are great and were made by Don. I think he said they were a hardboard base and the then textured and painted. The next time I see Don I’ll be sure to ask 😁👍.
