I love the idea that a challenge does not have to be daily! I don't know why I always tried daily challenges that are really hard to keep wit a full time job and other life stuff! but this video really inspired me ❤ So I am thinking to challenge myself to practice my human figures drawing once a week. (timed gesture drawings, anatomy studies, or more detail drawings to have some variety) I wanted to practice drawing people for a long time but always started with a daily goal and never made it past the first week. The owls came out soo cute, I really loved this video! good luck in the new year!

I hope you find this video as a source of motivation to create!! 💫 AsI step into the new year, I am trying to plan ways to boost my art practice. ✨ I have decided to do an art challenge. What I am keeping in mind… I want something that will push me, but not too hard that I give up. ✨💫Here are suggested topics for our challenge: 💫✨ mark making, exploring depth, fine-tuning, contour line drawing to build skill with drawing accuracy, deep dive into color theory, working with a limited color palette, drawing or paintingfrom observation, the possibilities are endless! 💖 Happy creating!!!! ✨😊✨

This is so beautiful! You remind me that I need to actually challenge myself to do animals… Right now I do draw and paint at least four or five times a week.… Strangely enough, it is because I have a chronic illness/disability and because I have so much going on That I retreat to my art. Without it, I feel bland and lost and overwhelmed. Even when I’m so tired and I stay up so late that I don’t always like the results of what I create, I still just have to look at the colors and watch the paint spread on the paper, no matter what. Creating my channel is also what challenges me in and of itself. It pushes me to explore everything that I have so that it’s not just sitting in my drawers. Right now I have opened a sketchbook that I’ve owned for about three years now and thought it was too precious too Mess around in. But now it is perfect for what I’m trying to explore because it is hot pressed and hundred percent cotton so this allows me to use and combine certain mediums that I couldn’t do before in a regular sketchbook or on cold press paper. Your students are fortunate to have you as their art teacher! And I really wish I would’ve had the opportunities to explore art in school as a young person. I really look forward to your videos and I understand why you can’t upload as much, I actually put very little effort into editing. You can probably tell lol because I just don’t want that to be the reason why I don’t upload. That’s probably why your videos are a lot more aesthetically pleasing than mine! Lol at any rate, we all find ways to motivate ourselves and what we have to prioritize, so I’m just glad you’re sharing anything at all, take care and I will be looking forward to your next video!❤️😉🙏✨🕊️

Vanessa, your owls are absolutely precious. I've missed watching you paint and share your thoughts with us. I wish I could come back to my channel as well, but now I also care for my aging mom while still caring for my son and work. It's pretty intense. Oh, I love graph tint! And I just recently got the smallest set of the neo color water soluble… I struggled with a while on how to work with these types of media, but I figured out some techniques that are really fun! I don’t always activate all of it, And I use a small water sprayer :-) I love the different elements that you incorporate into the pet portraits! It makes me want to do animal portraits myself :-) I’m working up to it… I have a Shop with me video planned, it should be really interesting since I use a white cane and require assistance so it should be pretty funny for others to see reactions from people about why someone who’s mostly blind would be shopping for art supplies lol I think most people who do shop with me videos can get away with being discreet when they’re recording, not I!! I will have to call and ask them if they would mind because I will need a shop employee to accommodate me while I’m there… I’m such a introvert, but I’m trying to make myself do Certain things so I can get over my awkwardness about my disability :-) love love, love, fountain pens, and ink!!! Art supplies have gotten so much more fun since I was young/in high school.… We are like kids and candy stores now! Lol✨🍭🍫🍬🎨🖌️🖋️✒️

Beautiful portrait! I love the approach you chose for this piece. Very inspirational. One of my goals is to use everything in my studio this year and produce more than I consume.

I've also neglected my Derwent inktese pan set. Grant it, I wasn't too happy using them because I thought they were watercolor and they didn't act like watercolor. I only recently found out they are ink. I also have a set of metallic watercolors. I pulled them out the other day and they are pretty fun. I'm thinking of trying them again. My most neglected art supplies are oil pastels and soft pastels. Maybe I'll pull them out this month.

I have too many neglected art supplies, but I'll use them all still 😂 I have bought a lot of clay and some of it is new air dry clay, that I'll use soon, but a lot of the clay is polymer from a year ago, that I haven't used yet. I just haven't found the right project. I do kind of like that if I wake up suddenly inspired to do something specific, I have the tools ready. I pulled out some of my neglected supplies for a recent project too. Jelly gouache is one of them. I haven't really learnt it yet. I love my alcohol markers too, but again I don't use them enough.

I would say my colored pencils and pastels haven’t been used in a long time. I have gouache that I am itching to use. Beautiful painting!

Mine is slightly different from you. I fell in love with my Derwent artist pencils when I found them as I tidied up my room. I have been colouring with them this whole day. Great video! It's interesting to find out how much surprises our forgotten supplies could bring ❤

I can relate to a lot of what you’re talking about in this video… I for one, really look for videos where people are drawing in their sketchbook and talking about life topics and how it relates to art. And yes, being a content creator is a lot harder than people might imagine if they haven’t tried it. I guess because my channel is super super tiny. I haven’t really experienced any negative comments, but I think with more exposure and more people watching the probability just gets higher. Because it is a fact that these people just exist… And that can be really discouraging. I’m glad you are still making videos though! And your fur babies are beautiful and make a very good sketchbook subject. :-) I would like to get into doing more animals in my work as well.🐱🐶 A lot of my goals for this year just involve pushing my skill level as far as it can go.… I do have limitations and struggles with my eyesight because I am progressively losing it, but I thought before it was gone altogether, I might see how far I can take it :-) thank you for sharing your thoughts. They are very inspiring and relatable.☺️🕊️✨❤️

Stunning painting 😍 my neglected art supplies 🤔 probably soft pastels and gouache at the moment but that’s probably because I recently tried oil paints and km absolutely loving them. Maybe while the oil layers are drying I can pull out the neglected supplies and create more art. Thank you for the inspiration 🫶🏾

If your feeling uninspired for art. Have a list of art subjects, numbered 1-100 and get a polyhedral dice from 1-100 and roll it! I have been really trying to find ways to keep me inspired myself. Ty for sharing with us! Your paintings are incredible. I also love my Jerry Q pallette, it’s very under rated by everyone. I also wanted to either get one of those funto small palettes or the micro painter. But I still love to carry around the Schmincke limited tin colorful palette I bought last year. I have compared it to Daniel Smith’s tin palette and it seems more durable. I wish I could just buy more of those colorful palettes. 🎉🎉 Hope you have a happy new year!
