    Hey Sam, so I'm a dev that works across a few platforms, primarily Shopify, Squarespace, etc. These don't charge developers a monthly fee to maintain an account or while developing projects. Is the expectation from Webflow that developers need to pay a monthly Freelancer plan (or above) with them to maintain an account, even when not actively building/working on sites? As you mentioned, I have 2 or 3 test sites saved also. Once I hand off my client site, if I want to be available for support - I need to be paying an ongoing monthly Webflow subscription? Feature-wise I used the cms for this project as well as embedded JS code, and while not currently using ecommerce, I began with a template that is built for it as the client indicated they may want it in the future - so it does have ecommerce pages setup in it. Do you know are they going to have to pay for an ecommerce plan - even though they may not use those features in the first 6-12 months?

    THis is absolutely useful, infact i'm using the combination of custom element, classes, attributes, and components to create a nav bar that i can reuse on all of my projects, i often found myself using multiple variations of navbars on 1 website, so i think this combination is game changing, and after slots it'll be much efficient and powerfull. but i gotta say that the way you create your components, is a whole guru level🔥, fantastic job. I wish i could get a clonable of this

    My problem with Webflow is the access, prices, and limitations. Coming from WordPress background where it's an honest freebie jungle and a nightmare of maintenance, webflow just seems far too "pay before you do anything". It's limiting a lot of possibilities before you even get a client, making you unable to even experiment with the builder's possibilities. Afterwards you need even more payments to advance a tier which honestly for what they provide, it is expensive and limited for no reason. The only reason I would go with Webflow is the animation capabilities which can be found on newly builders as well, but leaving that aside, it won't stop me from finding alternative solutions that might shut down and even then, in the long run, the client will pay for a transfer if a service is shutting down and guidance is always given from the provider. So I am not yet convinced and not because of you but because of what they provide, too strict packages and possibilities to start.

    This is an absolute catastrophe for people needing their own cms and who work on a couple of small website projects as freeelancers. I am starting to think webflow is becoming adobe

    • @sam-harrison
      @sam-harrison Місяць тому

      Whilst Webflow won’t say this, the reality is that Webflow isn’t really tailored towards very small businesses or side projects. It’s better suited to clients that have some kind of marketing budget. If price is a major limiting factor Bricks builder + Wordpress is a great alternative.

    Does any of this affect the functionality of the software itself? Can it even export code?? I am so confused.

  • @charlie-george

    I originally checked out Webflow because I was interested in integrating 3D into my website in an easier way than using 3JS etc. I then found out about Webflow having native support for Spline integration. So I looked into Spline and it basically does everything I want to do with 3D apart from the scroll transitions through different parts of the website (like GSAP). I'd love to hear your thought on the differences between using Webflow with Spline integration vs something like WordPress with Spline integration. Given the fact that Spline does so much on its own, I can't see much difference, considering you can use WordPress with GSAP to get essentially the same result as what you'd get with Webflow.

What would be best here? Should I keep a unhosted version on webflow and export the site each time there is an edit?

    Do you always let your clients pay for hosting? I know Webflow used to offer client billing which could allow you to make a small margin on top of the hosting each month but they have recently stopped the service.

    Paying for "custom code" in Weblow is absurd. You cannot even use Swiper.js or GSAP or anything outside of Webflow stupid motion designer clicking each and single attribute. Go ahead and continue paying for Webflow.

They need PHP, Javascript, API integration, and few more skillsets as well, and this was common in most of the wordpress job vacancies. Does one have to learn all of these for web design projects?

    I'm looking to start a new blogging website. I keep seeing reviews about how webflow is not the best option for bloggers. Are there any bloggers out there with real feedback on this?

    • @sam-harrison
      @sam-harrison 2 місяці тому

      Webflow allows you to create a blog via its CMS. The only reason against Webflow it’s CMS item limit which effectively means 10k blog articles maximum. However, you’d need to blog 10 times a week, every week for 20 years to hit that limit by which time the internet may look very different by then. Also you have the ability to export your blogs away in csv format if ever you wanted. However Wordpress is definitely the cheaper option on a budget. Hope that helps 👍🏻

As, for example, a media upload in the cms collection itself etc. In addition, the way to style one's css is very limited. where it is very difficult to work with utility css, which is becoming the standard for modern css, especially together with components
