I was taking lessons with @DrumeoOfficial‘s @BrandonKhoo last year and we had a conversation about doing cover songs. Our lessons always began and ended talking drums anyway. Ultimately, what’s important is that one stays true to the original whether it’s a tribute band, show band, or whatever.
This is a song my band @overdrivemanila rotates in and out of our sets. Everyone knows that songs from the 80s are layered more than a fat kid in freezing winter temperatures. I try to sort of emulate the various drum and percussion tracks on the original version of this by varying my dynamics and the drums and cymbals I hit. We don’t have the luxury of having a sequencer (with a back up sequencer that includes its own back up) like Def Leppard or many of the pop artists around today. The challenge here is “owning the song” and doing it justice without diverting too far from how Tears for Fears would do it. This is the arrangement that I did with the Moises.ai app and it’s how we do the song. I tried my best to edit out the actual percussion track. Check it out!

Running Logic Pro X with a @presonus 1824c Recording Interface and @behringer ADA8200 tethered to it through a MacBook Pro. Edited using DaVinci, Final Cut Pro X, and iMovie on said MacBook Pro and iPad 3rd Gen, as well as (get this) an iPhone 6S Plus.
The cameras used were Zoom Q3hd, a sports camera, and iPhone X.
