Quit January 1 and am going the whole year. I actually look forward to telling people I’m doing it for a year!
Well done! Keep checking in back here 🫡
Just started my journey, I'm loving myself and life in general so much more. Limitless energy.
Congrats Sam! Love watching inspiring sober videos like yours. I’m 55 days alcohol free myself and I love it. Sometimes I have these moments too when I think to myself oh would be nice to have a glass of wine or a beer right now. What I remind myself often is to think from a kids perspective, like when we were 9. When kids meet in social outings they are awkward around each other for like the first 20 minutes and then they are running around together for the rest of the day having a blast. I think we don’t grow out of it, it’s the same for adults only we have learned to numb that part down with alcohol. It’s natural for this to happen in adult social settings as well. I just remind myself that most are feeling the same way anyway. It feels empowering to be able to just feel through this awkwardness, letting it be and watching it pass just like it did when we were kids. And I get what you are saying about the celebratory beer after a game, I used to do the same after soccer. And again I remind myself that as a kid we took joy in the actual game and the feeling it gives you after but somehow that got lost and the focus switched to the “drinks after game” as a reward. No, the reward IS the game and how amazing your body and mind feels after. Ride out those endorphins, dopamine, serotonins, etc! Thanks for sharing your story!
Well done to you! Takes determination and strength. Good video. Wishing you all the very best. Greetings from Devon, England 👋🏻
I'm doing my first Iroman 70.3 In September. I feel your pain regarding the swimming, my freestyle needs some serious work. I've watched alot of videos on how to approach a 70.3 and this was by far the most simple and down to earth video I've watched 👌
Cheers Daniel! I appreciate that. All the best!
Really appreciate the video Sam.
You want a medal ?
Na but a celebratory beer will do.
14months, it’s just not something I think about any more, a lot has changed and everything is better. But, I couldn’t care if others drink, nor do I think I’m better off, or going to live longer or whatever. It’s a personal choice.
Great video Sam,I’m on the dry January challenge so far I’m doing great, hopefully I can continue and hopefully never go back 💪🙏
33 years of having at least 1+ drinks everyday. Now I'm 20 days in with no drinking and loving it! Started out as a dry January, but it feels like it going to go beyond that. I feel way more in tune/present since I've stopped drinking.
Sitting on our asses, instead of at least walking. Eating processed crap. Smoking. Using weed to get high. Avoiding the cold in the winter and the heat in the summer. Of course, Alcohol is the deadliest of these choices, but they are all making us weak, undisciplined, soft, diseased, unhealthy, and unattractive, at least They are all leading to disease and early death and keeping us from our potential. Let's just be honest. It does not matter how ubiquitous and acceptable bad behavior is; we are stupid and irresponsible and we cost our societies for the idiocy of an undisciplined life.
I am 11 months alcohol free. I wasn’t an alcoholic. However, I did notice that I started to drink more and I could foresee where I may be headed. I hope I am a role model for my family friends. Quitting alcohol was one of the best things I have done. Good luck to those who are taking the sobriety journey.
Thanks for watching! Please subscribe to my channel and comment on your journey with alcohol, as I'd love to hear your story!
Congrats Sam! I'm nearing two years, no regrets, can't see myself ever going back. Agree on the NA beers, there's a lot of good ones out there, they really helped me early on, I only occasionally have one now. I'd love to hike that trail you're on, looks awesome!
Thank you, such an encouragement . About to embark on my journey of soberierty assisted by medication and psychotherapy. Truly helpful.❤
I’m 47……as time goes on I realize that a few hours of anaesthesia just isn’t worth a whole next day of pain and anxiety
I’d like to encourage your viewers Sam, by the way congratulations on getting off the hooch. I drank from the age of 14 to 72. I came from a family of drinkers, both immediate and extended. I finally came to my senses after years of looking at others mess up their lives with drink and having not a few problems of my own arising as a result. Alcohol is a fearful drug, and I sincerely believe that those who drink, no matter how little, are addicted to it. I’ve been sober for more than 20 months now, and hope that I never drink again. I know from my own experience that alcohol related problems are very difficult to expunge, but I am living proof that you are never too old, or too far gone, to stop drinking. I wish the very best of luck and insight to all following this path and my advice is to keep on keeping on. ❤
Drinking all your doing is borrowing tomorrow's happiness
I could so relate to this! Thanks for sharing your story, and congratulations! 🎉
I remember sailing w my kiwi friends in NZ and wow the drinking culture was heavy. It was crazy . I did the same and we all know sailing n booze r dangerous . Thank goodness nothing happened . For the past 5 yrs I found myself eating chips n drinking almost every night . I now have more injuries post exercise . That made me drink more as I dislike pain meds etc . I finally choose my health . My journey is new to quit drinking . So far no booze except once since 12/15 which is strange as that is the date of my first marriage. We were tequila drinkers . No longer married 2 him . Anyway drank on 12/23 that’s it . I’m feeling what they called sobriety fatigue . My body was so used to to functioning under the influence it’s working hard to maintain its own homeostasis. T❤hank u for your video it helps
Congrats Sam! I'm 7 months alcohol free and working towards lowering my anxiety with therapy. Just want to say you are not alone and thanks for sharing!
I gave up alcohol 4 months ago and I feel like I got so much time back. Lost some weight. Regained some muscle. I sleep better. My skin feels less dry. I'm not going back.
yeah nah its just so great to see isn't it. yeahhhhh. boys supporting boys supporting local business. Yeahhhhhhhh. Its a family tradition around here. Just so great to see isn't it. Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh
If you’re counting days you already failed
One day at a time, friend.
@gavinb6492 What kinda logic is that?
@@BastianARJ you count how many days since you and your last girlfriend broke up ? You keep it at the front of your mind and it will stay there, let it go , see what alcohol does is it takes away your confidence in yourself you stop trusting yourself, that’s why people say take up a hobby or weightlifting is a big one , what you need to do is find something to build back confidence. Yea the first week or 2 count your days while your body heals and your sleep gets better get those small W’s but then find something else to focus on, if I sit around counting days since my last burger I’m gonna want a fucking burger.. that’s my logic
@@gavinb6492 I see your point, however, for some individuals (including myself :D), tracking the passage of days serves as a motivational tool, encouraging them to avoid resetting the timer and thus maintaining their progress.
Sam, congratulations on reaching one year of sobriety. I also struggle with this. Now that I’m 63, I often wonder what my life would have been like if I had quit drinking at 35.
Hi Eric, thank you for your message! Yes, I feel no matter the age, we all question what life would be without it. For me I just wanted to give myself the best chance to feel good every day, and the days I had alcohol in my life, I simply didn't feel good. Therefore, that was my answer. There is always time my friend!
I think it's empowering to be so open. When you step back and realise there is an issue, you realise how detrimental alcohol is in your life. I wish things had been quicker for me, that realisation wont vanish in your life, save yourself the years of hurt and regret, however there is a way to a happier life , your taking it.👍🇬🇧
Hi Nick, I appreciate the kind words. Vulnerability is important in my opinion especially for males. Hoping others out there can do the same. Wishing you all the best, cheers!
@sam.noster and you mate 👍
Thanks for sharing mate. I'm 110 days sober, life is so much better with a clear head. Off to my home group AA meting again with some really cool like minded people . Congratulations 🎉
Hey Bob, Congrats on 110 days. It's a great way to be and there will always be the temptations around us so you're doing great. Glad you are around great people. Keep going my friend!
I was driving a motorcycle drunk, at night. I was told by the manager of a bar that I frequented that I had slipped the night before and hit my head on the floor. I remembered nothing of the event. I quit drinking alcohol 11/21/2021, a little over 3 years ago. Many excellent life events followed. 🎉
I stopped 10/25/2021. The I started back in January 2022 until Nov 01, 2023. I now have 443 glorious alcohol free days. Together we will make it. Thanks for sharing that.
I'm 2weeks clean congratulations ❤
10 months in on the sober journey and I must say concur with the social drinking invite things and feeling like the guy who doesn’t drink. It ain’t easy but the pros outweigh the cons 100%. I would admit I would really struggle to do this if I wasn’t in a relationship. My wife and social events have been essential.
Hey Gary, great work on 10 months! How are you finding the temptations? Yes the social thing is interesting and tough at times. Hanging around close peers who don't care that your sober helps though. I also always question how hard it'd be or what might change if I wasn't in a relationship. Must be twice as challenging for those who are dating.
@ Hi Sam and sorry I should have congratulated you on your achievement. Well done 👏 To be honest I am not struggling with temptations at all which is great. I just have accepted it is my new way of life. Friends have been understanding and never put pressure on me but I again stress I couldn’t have done it without the support of my wife. I had a very unhealthy relationship with alcohol and I just had enough of the bad effects. The improvements in life, relationship with wife, hobbies, sleep, fitness and work performance makes it a no brainer against what I lose in social and relaxation terms. But of course I do miss elements of it Sam. Also I am going on a holiday in April for 2 weeks and I am planning to drink on that holiday for those 2 weeks under the premise this is what I allow myself each year to drink on my annual 2 week holiday and that only. I know that is insanely dangerous but I think I can pull it off.
Thanks for sharing your journey Sam! Very inspiring. I’m on dry-January, I can see going longer as I’m already feeling so much better.
Thank you Rebecca for your kind words! Woohoo let's go dry Jan!
Same!
Well done mate! I've only been drinking on special ocassions for the last two years and it's been a huge help for my sleep and weight loss journey. Now to CC Hamish😂
Cheers Flynny my boy! Changes like yours inspire myself and others to get out of the comfort zone and be better. So a big congrats on that my friend! Hame may find his time one day!
Congrats on being one year sober mate. Your journey with alcohol and self-doubt is so similar to mine. I fell into the British binge drinking culture at 17 and I kept it up through uni and for a brief period after. I used to be the guy that would often get too drunk and do something mildly embarrassing. At the time I didn't know, but now it's clear that I have social anxiety. Like you said, its not the alcohol that leads to that but I was using it to mask the feelings of insecurity in clubs and bars - where I felt so on edge. I still have a cold one from time to time, but having kids is the perfect excuse to stop after one or two. There's no way I'm risking poor sleep and then waking up early to two screaming kids with a hangover. I've still go work to do on the social anxiety, that along with other shit is a work in progress. With the family, its hard to see people frequently, but the people I do see are usually really into fitness like you and I. Keep up the awesome work on the journey and content dude
Thanks for your comment Andy! I appreciate you sharing your story 💪🏽 I can only imagine with kids 🤣
Great work Sam!!! I'm just over 2 years alcohol free
Thanks Delv! Your story has always inspired me and I give you a lot of credit and respect for your change 🙌🏼
Great video Sam. I know it hasn’t been easy to do nor do I think it’s easy to share the way you have. Thank you for that. Proud of you young man!
Thank you Grant!
Nice Work Sam 👍
Nice Work Sam 👍
Thanks Kev!!!
Thanks for generously sharing your journey. Have a wonderful new year!
Thank you Lee! Means a lot 👍🏽
Great video. Being sober is an accomplishment and you should be proud.
Cheers Dave! I appreciate that 💪🏽
Thank you for sharing your journey. It is so inspiring. I’m currently training for my first half ironman.
Thank you so much for watching! I appreciate it and the comment. Well done for setting that as a goal. It will be something you’ll remember forever and I’m super thankful and proud of myself for completing which you will be too! All the best with your training and race :)
Top notch work at a top notch facility. 👍
👏🏼 Great work buddy! 🔥
what kind of bike did you use? and mechanical components?
I used my gravel bike. Brodie Elan Vital: www.brodiebicycles.com/elan-vital The bike was great and was my favourite part of the race. I put 28mm tires on it vs the wider gravel ones it came with. Extra speed, less friction etc. Cheaper than buying a road or tri bike (which you don’t need unless you want the best time).
I worked at the club med boutique shop recently. I remember you and your family. Nice hat.
Bowling machine is basically Anil Kumble 😂
Nice and easy for these old bodies to swing through in time!
So good.
It was great fun!
07:24 Was my favourite shot by far. Sam this was a blast mate! Congrats on going 2-0 up in the series. Can you make it a clean sweep though with a fastest to 50 challenge?
awesome vid bro!! water was really clear
Thank you very much! I appreciate you watching and the comment 🙌🏼
Welcome to Mexico. Enjoy your staying!!! 🇲🇽
Thank you!!!!
Looks cool mate! Keep up the videos.
Appreciate it man! Will do!
